The sales woman on the phone a few minutes ago told me that my TiVo series 3 will not work with their HDTV offerings because, get this, they have their own DVR.

I then told her I needed two CableCards and she said that would be fine.

Also, she quoted me a price around $80 for basic and HDTV "service". Does this seem high?

The minimum digital tier (basic) to get all HD channels + HD itself is close to $75 with Comcast in the ATL. That's for only one STB and all the channels you ALREADY get in SD that you get to pay for again if you want HD.

Yes, their prices suck.

You do realize that TiVo just released a $299 MSRP HD DVR, right? If not, you might want to check into the Official Series 3 TiVo thread in the HD DVR forum here.

He said that he already has the S3.

I bought the S3 a couple months ago.

This thread isn't about the S3, it's about the cost of Comcast HD cable and the fact that a Comcast rep told me that third-party DVRs won't work with Comcast cable systems.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and subscribe. I currently get all of the major Networks and PBS over the air from my antenna. And in some instances I get multiple versions (two ABC choices). But I want some of the other cable only available channels like Discovery.
