View Full Version : Time Warner playing Games again.
bigrushhead 07-22-07, 08:55 PM Well, this is kinda funny and kinda sad.
I converted from Satellite to Cable about a Year ago, prior to that I had not had Cable in about 20 Years...I was locked into a "Contract" for 2 full Years, where they couldn't raise the rates on me.
My mother also did the exact same deal, and this was advertised extensively in our area, so I know many folks probably took advantage of this...I have been very happy with the service till now.
Well, yesterday I get this letter that says that they have been making an error on my Account and undercharging me, but they will rectify it on my next Bill, to the tune of $8.50 more a Month.......Hmmmmm
So out of curiosity I call my Mother to see if she received the same letter, and don't you know it, they made the same error on her account  ..I mean what are the odds???
Give me a farking break, I don't see how they can think they cant be sued for this outright lying and breach of Contract?
I almost want them to start over charging me, so I can take them to court...You think there is a Judge in his right mind who would believe they made the same mistake on two separate people? no freaking way..Talk about a blatant scam.
At worst, they will be getting canceled, and I pay my Bill on time every Month...Just out of Principal I feel like canceling, and that more than likely will happen some time soon.
Screw you TW!!
sorensenj 07-24-07, 12:44 PM Vote with your pocketbook and tell TW is pound salt where the sun don't shine!!! I know it's a pain to change vendors sometimes but the only way these morons get the picture is to lose money, period.
Well, my guess would be that TWC bought out the OP's, and his Mom's, commitment to satellite, which means the commitment is now with TWC and to get out from under, the OP would have to buy his way out.
I make my assumptions on receiving that same offer from TWC the Spring before last, but the rep was more thorough and did inform me that the monthly costs would go up ~ $8/mo. in the second and third years of my commitment. He stated that TWC would buy out my commitment from both DIRECTV and Verizon DSL. He didn't specifically say I was under a commitment to TWC if I opted to take up the offer, but I understood that an investment on their part would require the same for me. I declined mostly because they couldn't provide CBS and FOX in HD in my market. The TWC rep was silent and sulked as he left my residence.
If I had taken the offer, I would have asked for everything in writing and notarized before I agreed, that way there would be no misunderstandings.
bigrushhead 07-24-07, 04:01 PM We didn't have a contract with Satellite, and we owned our own equipment outright.
TW gave us $100.00 credit for our Receivers.
I called Yesterday to cancel, and they told me they made a mistake, and even offered to give me free PPV coupons, to keep them as a provider.
I had the feeling they were receiving calls all day and were familiar with the situation by the time I had called. :p
I told her, if my Bill has the new higher price, thats it, I will go back to Dish Network, and she promised my price is good till August-08.
Steve Mehs 07-24-07, 08:21 PM TW Rochester does not do contracts, period for residential services, not sure about Biz Class services. Even if TW would have bought out a contract, that has nothing to do with it. When I first started looking into going back to cable I was still under contract with DirecTV, they offered to buy it out, and I was not under contract with TW. I could cancel at any time for whatever reason, I was assured of this multiple times.
I'm also in a two year promotion with TW out of Rochester. Digital Cable with all of the movie channels on two TVs for $51.95/month. This does not include DVR fees, or the HD Tier and Sports Tier which I also have. I have had no increases in my cable bill since I signed up 18 months ago, I did have multiple decreases, the price decrease on Road Runner Premium and the DVR Fee going down $2 for the second box. Frankly I cannot wait for my promo to end. I feel like I’m cheating Time Warner and can’t wait to be paying full retail like the rest of the people of Rochester. I appreciate the price break, but I’m no more special than anyone else, just because I had a satellite dish for 7 years doesn’t make me any better of a customer.
I think you misunderstood, you're not in a contract, you're under a promotion, and don't forget service you may have that are outside of the promotion could impact the price as well. Time Warner is a multibillion dollar company, they didn't get that way by being stupid. I highly doubt there would be anything to justify a lawsuit that isn't covered in the fine print.
Doc Johnson 08-02-07, 02:40 PM I just received a $ 450 Credit on my TW bill, don't know why and I'm not going to ask.
JLESTER3 08-04-07, 09:39 PM Not sure if you're in Rochester, NY but it is the Flower City and TWC recently did send out a billing correction letter to all customers effected by a billing error they were experiencing in that division of TWC.
This isn't some official response to the problem so please don't take it that way. I don't speak for TWC on these forums or in any public capacity.
When you got a promo offer, what they call a Winback campagin, it was for lets say $56.95 a month for some premiums, 2 boxes, and cable service for 2 years. After 2 years it incriments by $10 a year for a total of about 5 years. The 2 boxes in the offer are the key.
The billing system was only charging you about $52.95 per month for the promo. It never charged you for the second box, which when included adds up the proper $56.95 offer you were extended.
Sorry if this sounds formal, I'm just trying to explain whats up ^^
Anyway, the billing system had this issue for all people on those Winback promos that included 2 boxes. The correction just made the billing charge the original offered amount of $56.95 going forward, not retroactive. (These numbers are examples, it may vary, but it's the general idea)
The letter tried to explain that, it's not some scam.
Call them if you have any questions or want an official explanation.
It's a good company, I know people that work there =p
Earlier this year my roomates and I went about 5 months without paying for TW cable, because we kept calling and complaining about everything. It also didnt help that they ran a cable across our backyard and didnt cover up the connection. Everytime it would rain our cable would go out.
