So, I'm starting to become one of "those people" who has a collection of antique CRT projectors laying around. I purchased a suplus Sony 1251 off of the fleabay for $50.00. I picked it up this afternoon and this evening I got it plugged in. Tubes seem clean (9-8/10) with less than 1000 hours on them, and pt-65 lenses. The only problem is the picture is very juddery, shaky, unstable. I'm not sure how to discribe it. It does it on all inputs even on the test pattern screens. It just doesn't look right. Can anyone help point me in the direction of what area to look at to try to resolve the problem. Thanks, Shaun

Well I reseated the boards and that didn't resolve the problem, does anyone have any suggestions? This projector might become a doner projector if I can't get it figured out. The tubes are interchangeable wth the 1272, correct?
Thanks.

I thought you could swap in the 07mp into the 1272, but you lose some sharpness. Which would be better than using my slightly burnt tubes (6/10)currently in the 1272.
I could be wrong though.

The 07MP's WILL work(I have tried this). Only thing is that your G2 and FOCUS controls will be nearly to the end of their adjustment. They should look much better and probably sharper then burnt 07MSP's.

I thought I could swap them. Though this will be the last resort. I'd rather leave them in the 1251 and use the 21 point convergance cards from my 1272. The 1251 looks amazingly clean, no dust on anything. The lenses look brand new and the tubes are almost perfect. Plus it is about 6db's quieter than the 1272. I just need to figure out the shaky/juddery picture. I know its got to be something that needs cleaned and reseated.

Can you see my smile from here? Just wondering, because I swap out all the boards from my 1272 to the 1251 and I have a minty low hour machine that is quiet as all hell. Smiles for miles! The only down fall is my hour timer went too so instead of saying 8xx hours it now says 3900. Not a bad $50.
