Well, I've been waiting years to get out of the apartment life so that I could fully enjoy my surround system. With that being said, a lot of my things are out-dated and need upgrades. The thing that I'm missing and that I'm dying for is BASS!!!! I have to turn my Receiver up really loud to get the bass that I'm looking for and then other things start to distort. So, with that being said, I'm in the market for a Subwoofer. I'm looking at spending around $2000 for a good quality sub or possibley two subs. I use my system for 99.9% HT and love to feel explosions. I am pretty much a Bass freak. When I moved into my house I played the Matrix (Neo & Trinity entering the building in order to save Morpheous up until after the roof scene) over and over again. So, I do need some help, but I do have some subs I'm looking into;

SVS: Any
HSU: VTF-3 Mark III/HO
Axiom: EP500 or..........EP600
Suggestions:

Here are my room specs;

Room: opens up to dining room, hallway, kitchen doorway & stairs going down
Room Size: 14W x 20L x 8H

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V2200
Fronts: Bose 701 (bought in 2001)
Center: Mission 77c
Rear: Bose 301 (bought in 2001)
Rear Center: Bose VCS10 (bought in 2001)

For $2000 I would buy two Turbo HOs. I have a 3 MK3 and it is AMAZING. I've already pissed off my neighbors :p

For $2000 I'd look into a Seaton Submersive. But I think you should cut that subwoofer budget in half and spend the rest on a new speakers. :)

I'm open to suggestions on this matter, but I do love hearing and feeling BASS!

I am in a similar situation myself. Most people here have told me to consider more than one sub with something like the Hsu VTF3. I am still on the fence as to which direction to go. My choices are Hsu VTF3 Mk3, Axiom EP-500, eD A7-600, or an SVS PB-12 Plus/2. The latter two subs being dual 12" drivers. The Hsu and Axiom are both noted for the musicality, but like you I am using the sub in a HT only environment. I would imagine the eD would provide the greatest in-room SPL, but I am still not sure what I would be sacrificing. The SVS is the most expensive option of the bunch and to be perfectly honest, I don't think it will provide me anything improved over my other options and have thus disregarded it as a serious option. I will be curious to see what advice you are given and will look forward to your decision.... it might help me with mine ;)

$2000 hua? The Elemental Designs (eD) A7-900 comes out to that (free shipping) and has dual 18" drivers... In your price range not much is going to touch that thing in SPL performance. Only thing is no one has really tested/reviewed one yet that I can find so exact SQ is unknown, but hey, you can always use it as a spare bed. The lower ends ones (A2-300, A5-300) have been reviewed, and were very well favored for the price.

Just something to look at.

The worst part about my decision is that I live in Canada and the only HSU retail store stopped selling HSU and jumped over to selling SVS. I haven't done much local surfing, but so far I've been able to find a SVS and Axiom dealer up here and waiting word from an email to see how much it would be to deliver a HSU VTF-3 HO w/Turbo to my door with taxes, fees, blah, blah, blah.

I'm in the same shoes as you are Balthazar. I've read so many reviews and looked at the "CraigSub" and I've had my eye on an EP500. The good thing about these two companies for me (SVS & Axiom), is that I can buy a sub, play with it for awhile and send it back and either upgrade or downgrade ($120 per return for delivery though).

I really think that something small like a PB12-NSB will do me for awhile, but I would always want more. Two subs or one sub, it's driving me insane. I want a sub that I can turn up loud and it can shake the house and be at theatre level sounds! With that being said though, I have a wife and two kids under the age of two! I don't often get the chance to play the movies at the level I'd like them to be at, but I do enjoy hearing Bass though. I would like to listen to a movie at reasonable levels, for a two year old, and have some nice deep bass to assist in the movie experience.

alexadams77, I have the same issues. I have a two year old as well and do not often find myself having the chance to play volume at reference levels. That being said, I want to make sure that whatever I purchase is a long term investment. I don't want to sell myself short just because I can't always use it I would desire to. Obviously, for me it is a little easier because I don't have to worry about importation issues, but the eD is a buy it and hope you like it scenario (no returning that bad boy). So here I sit on the fence just waiting.... I am just not sure for what :)

LOL :p The Neighbors should always be feeling your bass! and be pissed also

I'm going to turn up my durabrand HTIB the max after hearing that I've never cranked it up above volume 8! :D I've got about 20 volume levels after that! I think the manual said it had 28 volume levels. or was it 48. :confused:

it can NEVER be too loud! :D
