Hey folks,

I am looking for sub that will match up with a Yamaha YSP-1100. I have chosen to go with an all in one type setup since this is for a bedroom.

The room size is around 14x14.

I am looking for a sub that will pair up pretty well. Looking for something that is decent quality and preferably not too expensive i.e. < 400-500.

Any advice is appreciated.

Dave

since it's a small bedroom, what sized sub are you looking for?

If size isn't a factor the SVS PB-10, HSU VTF-2 MK3 and ED A2-300 would all be great choices and all in your budget.

If size is a factor the SVS SB12 plus is a smaller sub. It's out of your price range but svs has b-stocks which are customer returns or a small blemish in the finish etc. Might be able to pick one of those up at close to your budget. AV123 also has the ULW-10 which is a small sealed sub also but it's bacordered at the moment, not sure when they will get more in.

Thank you for the reply. Would you recommend anything from Polk (I ask, because the local shop here has carries them and offers a 30 day return policy).

Thanks again,

Dave

Between the products that you mention, is there a large difference in sound? Out of these brands, which one in your opinion has the edge?

You could check the polk thread in the speaker forum, they might be able to give you more insight on a polk sub. Polk isn't very highly regarded for their subs as they are with speakers. For the money I think you could do much better. Every company above also gives you a 30 day return policy and SVS is 45 I think. If you did decide to send it back the most you'd be out is return shipping.

Their won't be much noticeable difference in sound quality between the ones above. All are excellent quality subs and should work well in your sized room.

The main difference in the ones listed is the first set of choices are larger subs and are able to give more output and be able to output lower in the frequency range. Your budget and size requirements (if any) should probably be the deciding factor in narrowing down your choices

As far as the my preference....again if size isn't an issue would be the HSU VTF-2. It will deliver as low or lower than the others in the frequency range and is highly regarded as being great for music also and is the most expensive of the 3.

Second choice would be the ED A2-300, if budget is an issue it's considered to be the best bang for the buck right now and the cheapest of the ones listed. Excellent performance at it's price. The only drawback is the finish ed uses on their subs. It's similar to a bed liner finish, some don't mind and some do.

Of the smaller ones listed I've owned the SVS SB12 plus and for a small 14" sealed sub I was amazed. The smaller ones listed won't get you as low in the frequency range nor give as much output, in a bedroom situation your probably not looking to shake the foundation. The smaller sealed design is noted for delivering clean articulate bass which most prefer for music. Also they are generally more expensive, but if size is an issue you won't be disappointed.
