View Full Version : What is the most eye popping movie you have yet?
hdtvhdtv 07-23-07, 11:30 AM So far, the movie that I beleive is the most eye popping in HD or for that matter any other material I have seen in HD since it started broadcasting back in late 98". This includes HD Discovery, PBS, NG,or any other source.
The movie is titled "Bridge to Terabithia".
Yes this may be a kids movie. However, the visuals simply make you believe you are looking trough a window and not a TV. Everything seems so real. When pausing outside scences, it takes on the appearance of a true 35mm photo.
If you really just want to impress someone with the true potential of what your HDTV can do then I suggest you get this movie.
There is HDTV and then there is HDWindow.

Jiffylush 07-23-07, 12:53 PM Apocalypto was stunning, really had the 'window effect'.
Also love Ice Age: the Meltdown, it was the first great looking BD movie I watched (Taladega Nights was the first BD, yuck).

Randall Morton 07-23-07, 04:56 PM I like most of the ones mentioned. I prefer 2.35:1 since it fills my screen. One not mentioned yet that I thought was really good picture and sound is DeJa Vu. Apocalypto is probably as good as I've seen, but it was 1.85:1.
5thDanMaster 07-23-07, 05:11 PM UW:E is BD exclusive i believe, unless you had yours imported.
BD exclusive in the USA. Mine is on HD DVD from Europe.
Bridge To Terabithia - awesome PQ & SQ
Flyboys
Pirates 1/2 and Corpse Bride.
Casino Royale was pretty awesome too.
Also, these are the only movies I own. :)
Yeah, Corpse Bride had a few scenes where the eye popped out of her head.
ResOGlas 07-23-07, 07:05 PM Corpse Bride, hands down.
maverick0716 07-23-07, 08:53 PM There's many that are really eye popping, but for me to make a short list I'd pick (no particular order either):
Crank
POTC: DMC
King Kong
Apocalypto
lgans316 07-23-07, 09:08 PM Varies from scene to scene.
1. The Island
2. Pearl Harbor [some of the sequences had stunning color saturation and sharpness]
3. Apocalypto
4. Casino Royale [only few scenes]
5. DMC [only few scenes]
6. The Rock [U.K] - not eye popping in general but my eyes popped coz it was a exponential improvement over all the previous releases.
7. Face / Off [Japan] - not eye popping in general but my eyes popped coz it was a exponential improvement over all the previous releases.
Best wow factor discs I have are: The Island, POTC: DMC, and Corpse Bride. Best I've seen though was a rental, Apocalypto. All of these are damn fine examples of HD perfection!
Overall the best 4 non-animated titles I have seen in no particular order are
Apocalypto
King Kong (This is overall the best HD HT experience I have had. Great movie IMO and the sound  ).
Discovery Atlas Italy revealed
Discovery Atlas Brazil revealed (I am surprised these discs dont get talked about more. The window effect is huge with these titles. If only planet earth looked this good :) )
I have watched 4 animated titles and all were stunning
Ant Bully
The Wild
Happy Feet
Corpse Bride
There are other good titles of course, but these are the ones that come to mind as the best of the ones I have seen
Are you guys kidding me????
No one has mentioned Curse of the Golden Flower!
If you haven't seen this yet, do post haste.
And, of course, Apocalypto is also jaw-dropping as well. ;)
LazerViking 07-24-07, 02:14 AM In no particular order:
Hulk (HD-DVD)
Crank (BD)
Chronicles of Riddick (HD-DVD)
Reign of Fire (BD)
Blood Diamond (BD)*
Identity (BD)
The Matrix (HD-DVD)
Apocalypto
POTC 2, of course.
*Blood Diamond has been criticized for its uneven presentation, but during the climax scene (dont want give away any spoilers), is one of my favorite demo clips. The explosions sound great and have incredible pop.
