I posted a thread that asked if any other AVS users had received what appeared to be resurfaced blu-rays from netfix. Based on the feedback from that thread I decided to call Netflix customer service. After explaining my question I was put on hold for several minutes. When the operator came back he said that his supervisor said that they cannot comment on how they handle damaged disc other than sometimes replacing them. I love Netflix, but this sounds like an admission of guilt to me. Heres hoping that netflix does their homework and stops resurfacing blu-rays! The service rules but if they keep resurfacing slightly scratched BR's in a few months a large portion of their BR library will be unplayable. How can we get through to them and get them to stop resurfacing BR's? Any suggestions?

I just rented Weeds Season 1 from Netflix on BD and it was totally unplayable on my PS3. First and only disk I've had an issue with after dozens of movies watched on HD-DVD and BD.

I've also rented dozens but Letters From Iwo Jima was my first, and hopefully last resurfaced BR from Netflix.
I haven't noticed anything like that. I've had four discs come in with a hairline crack in the edge though, and that was enough to make it unplayable.

The hairline cracks on the outer edge make it unplayable, like the ps3 says cannot play disk. Wont even start.
Ive got a few of those in the mail too.
I rang up and demanded that they re-surface them... sorry :-(

Blu-Ray. The PS3 would refuse to play it.

I doubt Netflix has paid for the TDK patent and technology to resurface Blu-Ray discs. They may be polishing them, but they are definitely not resurfacing them.
After over 30 Blu-Ray rentals I haven't had a single problem. Just last week I got Shanghai Nights on DVD (not available on Blu) and it skipped. I avoid renting SD-DVD's like the plague and Blu-Ray's nearly indestructable surface is one of the reasons I won't get an HD-DVD player - I'm sick of skips during movies.

I went through two copies of Million Dollar Baby that were scratched to hell. I don't understand how you do that to a BD unless it is on purpose. Anyway, neither played all the way through. I don't know if they were resurfaced or not, but it soured me again on renting, and I have suspended my Netflix membership for the time being.

I have received a few with hairline cracks too.
You are supposed to inform Netflix the disks are damaged so they wont send me your bad disks. ;) :D

There's no need to start a new thread every time you have something to add - why didn't you just post this here? (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=878527)
