When you say the HK House of Flying Daggers is soft, is it technical issue with the blu-ray, or an issue with the film itself? To me, some of the caputres look soft, but the grain seems to be intact, ie not "softened" out.

I have been waiting to get a good release of this movie, and am ready to buy the HK release if its a technically sound transfer and encode, even if the film itself is soft in places.

I have a question about the dumb-downed subtitles on the Mirimax Blu-ray. Does anyone know if these were the same subtitles that were used for the US theatrical release, or did they make their first appearance on home video? Thanks.

I think they're the same ones used for the theatrical release, in the US. I forget which version I first saw on DVD (it wasn't the US release), but it had the original subtitles.

I really wish this one would get the treatment.. it's such a visual and auditory feast, it's just begging for an awesome remaster. And maybe they'll get the subtitles right this time. :)

Thanks for your response. I just read some reviews for the US theatrical release and one of the authors did indeed note the subtitle changes.

How long do we have to wait for a decent release of Hero????
