Hi guys,

I'm from Australia and I'm visiting New York next week.

Where do you guys recommend to buy Blu-Ray/HD-DVD discs?

I'm staying around Times Square.

Thanks

Head down to Union Square (14th St). There's a Virgin Megastore there but they usually are full pop on the prices. Right next to the Megastore is a Circuit City which has a decent amount.

There's a Best Buy on 23rd and 6th that ain't bad.

Good luck and no worries.

Thanks for the reply.

I had a browse through the Circuit City and Best Buy websites. How do the in-store prices compare? Circuit City seems to have them on the website at retail.

In NYC, there really isn't a huge selection for discs. It's weird. I end up going out to NJ where the best buys there have a larger selection.

Regarding prices, most places here are full price unless there's some sort of sale going on.

In all honestly, I end up purchasing my blu/HD discs online. Much cheaper and I don't have to search this huge city to save $5

Yeah I might order from Amazon and get it delivered to the hotel I'm staying at.

Thanks

Try J&R Music World down on Park Row in lower Manhattan. Take the N train to the City Hall stop and you'll find J&R located across the street from City Hall itself.

J&R has a huge selection of both standard DVDs as well as Blu-ray and HD DVD. They have pretty much any electronic device you could want as well, so it's fun shopping all around.

That's exactly what my old high school buddy who moved to Australia did when he came to visit me here in the states. I actually live in Houston, but I met up with him in New York and we hung out there for 2 weeks. He ordered a ton off of Amazon and got them sent to his hotel room.

No. You have to go to the store. I'd go to the main store. They'd probably have the best selection.

I would agree for the best prices try Disc-O-Rama and J&R.

Thanks. Just got back from there. Picked up The Jerk and Lethal Weapon 2 for $15.99 each. the one at West 4th seems to have a bigger collection but there were some different ones (like Speed) at the Union Sq one. I wish I can get on some kind of mailing list to know when these things start...

There's a store called Entertainment Outlet on 40th St. and the corner of 5th Ave. (right next to Bryant Park and the NYC Library, which are within walking distance of Times Square: http://www.entoutlet.com/aboutus.asp). There's a wall of BD and HD-DVD titles and a 40" 1080p Sony LCD hooked-up to a first-gen Samsung BD player. There are more BD titles than HD-DVD one's but both formats are well-represented and the prices aren't monstruous. I just got there from lunch with an HD-DVD copy of "The Host." Happy shopping! :)

I posted about it a couple of weeks ago. No one listens to me :(

If you're going to be in the village, there's an Entertainment Outlet down here as well.

There's also a place in Times Square that will break street date if you want to pay full price to get it :(

Someone posted something about the store at the beginning of July. Whoever that was, THANKS! I just wish I can find out sooner. I'm looking for specific titles and they always run out by the time I find out.

i posted about the deal at discorama when they had the buy any three hd discs for $60.00 which was a great deal if you chose the discs which were discounted to $27.00. most of their discs on blu ray or hd dvd are $19.99. they dont have that bigger selection, not like a hundred titles on each format but have a large enough one to make it worth a trip if youre nearby.
but i picked up saw, space cowboys, reservoir dogs , invincible and the warriors.
they do get some titles early also but you didnt hear that from me.
