View Full Version : Postponed Titles
I am getting really frustrated with studios announcing titles and then postponing them indefinitely and without giving a reason.
Flashdance Cancelled (http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Paramount/Street_Date_Delays/Paramount_Drops_Curtain_on_Flashdance_Blu-ray,_HD_DVD/798)
I don't remember so many titles getting postponed or cancelled a year after dvd rolled out. It is almost becoming the norm with hi-def. You start looking forward to titles that are coming out only to have them yanked and without reason.
What gives?
According to Hi-Def Digest here is a list of postponed titles:

Sofdec7 07-24-07, 10:55 AM I can't say I'm too surprised - a number of the postponed titles are either catalog discs that can easily be found in bargain bins on DVD (I recall Fox pricing their Dude Wheres My Car disc at $39.99 on Blu Ray) or just plain bad movies (some of them a combination of the two).
A lot of these "older" titles don't seem to be getting too much effort put into bringing them into High Def - I hear a number of them are from the previous transfers from the DVD releases (some from the earlier days).
Hearing how poor these titles sell (I haven't heard any real numbers though), I can't say I'm too surprised. I don't see them putting too much effort into these titles, and personally I don't see much use in releasing them as mediocre discs.
Swift Mojo Hand 07-24-07, 11:01 AM I was sure Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon would not be released anytime soon and was suppressed to see it on Curse of the Golden Flower as an upcoming release. No date given.
Fingers are crossed
LazerViking 07-24-07, 11:03 AM Oh drat, Bug got added to the list. I was really looking forward to this after missing it in theatres. Oh well, Lionsgate and Starz! got enough coming out over the next couple of months to satisfy my bizarre/horror movie needs.

Bug was never announced to begin with. Any news posted announcing it was pure speculation.

one other thing on that is the trailer for CTHD looked almost as bad as HoFD, and paidgeek had said Sony is working on CTHD but not to expect 5th Element kind of transfer.

There is a market for catalog titles in hi-def. And they do benefit from 1080p and lossless audio as well. So I don't buy that argument.

My biggest complaint is why announce them in the first place just to turn around and postpone it.
RScottyL 07-24-07, 01:38 PM Me personally, I was really looking forward to Mr & Mrs Smith and hope they will release that soon.
Everything else on the list is not a big deal for now, although I would still like to see them all released.
Chewcky 07-24-07, 02:14 PM what about Reign Over Me, i saw it was supposed to be released today and then was taken off the list and i never heard anything about it.
