Hi all.

I'm new to your forum, but thought I'd let you know, that although Commando has been pulled from release it's out there somewhere.

I picked up Commando Blu-Ray from ebay. Sealed with the security labels etc.

The picture is a bit grainy, but head and shoulders above the old fox disc. Without doubt the best it has looked so far.

The soundtrack is a vast improvement.

I've included some images for you.

Sorry if people already know all this. I did a search and found no threads on this.

That's interesting. Wonder where that came from ?

I see MPEG-2 and I am guessing DTS Core extracted from DTS Master Audio.

considering fox is dropping dts, we may see a new release of this with ddthd or uncompressed pcm. perhaps even a avc encode.

Apparently, someone on HDD's forum found a copy in-store. You can read the thread here (http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=11239).

Going to wait for the extended cut thats due out in the next couple of months on dvd.Hopefully this will get a blu-ray release as well.Maybe this is why the other one was pulled.

I've seen a copy on shelf at Nebraska Furniture Mart in KC, KS. Reason I didn't spring? $34.99 for a barebones catalog title that wasn't that good to begin with. At that price, may still be on the shelf if anyones interested... man, how I miss Fox

It cost me $32US from ebay

As far as picture quality goes, i have the old non anamorphic Region 1 dvd to compare and this bluray is head and shoulders above it in terms of image and sound quality.

As previous posters have mentioned there are instances of light grain throughout but the detail in most shots is superb (several scenes with 3D like images of arnie's mug)

I say grab this off ebay while you can guys.

I paid $40 including shipping to the UK.

The picture is alot better than the dvd in my opinion. But still not great.

It must be the announced released that got pulled. It has an ad inside for Kingdom of Heaven, Fantastic 4, Behind Enermy Lines and Kiss of the Dragon "Coming soon to Blu-Ray"

I've added a menu screen to show the trailers also included.

Hope this is of some interest to people.

Apparently, while on an elevator, someone from Fox suggested that Fox has strongly considered dropping DTS-HD MA encodes. How much more official can this information be? :D :p

yup, that's as much as we know at this point. as much as i preferred dts over dd5.1 in the dvd days, dts-ma has been a total disappointment when no player on either format can play a lick of it.

oh in that elevator that someone also mentioned 50 titles by end of 2007. again, we'll have to see to believe.

I am sure there will be an official BD release soon.

Maybe already the DC.

But the original version is also of interest to me.

Where can one buy this version ?

Ebay lists only one BD.

doesnt matter what you own, it doesnt do DTS-MA.

a very rumored speculation. the word is someone talked to a fox rep at EMA and she told him the following:
1. reason they've been MIA from the scene is b/c they been testing BD+ and had problems with DTS
2. they're very happy with BD+ and are dropping DTS so will start releasing titles
3. they intend to release 50ish titles by end of 2007.

Is this a real blu-ray disc? I want it but afraid its a counterfeit.

dobyblue
07-25-07, 01:49 PM
Judging by the picture of the disc and the case it's real and it's Region A.

It was probably sent out for review to a few sites maybe and never released, like Robocop.
There was a copy of Robocop at least sent to DVD Talk as they have a review for it on their site, but it was pulled.

The pics look great guys, thanks for sharing.

I don't know what more can be shown of this disc to prove it's not counterfeit. There is currently only one seller on ebay still selling this item and i bought it from him so there really is nothing to worry about except the premium pricetag for such a rare disc.

Do you guys need more photo's? (there's more in the screenshot thread i did yesterday)

I just rented Broken Arrow and they had a trailer to Commando on there.
Even at 1080i, the quality looked awful.

BiffTheBuff
07-25-07, 05:12 PM
Yes that trailer looks like garbage, this disc looks nothing like that worn print.

Look at any catalogue bluray release so far and tell me those trailers look anything like the main feature in both image and sound quality...

I haven't seen the trailer, but regardless, it would still be worth it to me just for an upgrade from the non-anamorphic disc. It's one of my all-time favorite action films.

I have to imagine they've struck a new master from the upcoming DVD extended cut, so here's hoping the eventual BD release will benefit from that.

Especially since the same seller sold at least 8 copies for 33.99 with Buy It Now. I guess he figured out too late he could bilk people for it.

Commando is indeed out there. I have a funny story.

Found it on the shelf at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset here in LA. It was a cool 39.99 but since i knew it was rare I decided to spring for it.

Got it home, removed the wrapper and carefully sliced open the security stickers. Popped the case open and found a blank dvd staring back at me! No printing on the disc nothing, popped it in my blu-ray player and the disc was indeed blank. The package had never been opened, the security stickers were intact when I bought it, and even the shrinkwrap had that blue and silver 1080p sticker thats on the outside of all the fox blu-rays.

Since I got it at a b&m store I was able to return it for a full refund.

So buyer beware on the e-bay auctions, you might get a blank dvd!

Just found this at a local store. It was in fact $35, but I had a gift certificate so I thought it was worth picking up as I knew they were hard to come by..

I'll post pics of the disc and receipts if you guys still don't believe these exist out there!

This was here in town at Nebraska Furniture Mart, which a poster had mentioned earlier. This was the only copy they had, so I don't know if they will get more now or if this was it?

I agree, those screen shots indicate great video quality.

I also want to get a hold of this BD. The movie is very entertaining in a mindless sort of way.

Alas, it looks like I'll have to wait for a legitimate release. For now, I'll heed John Matrix's advice and do other things to "let off some steam." :D

I see -- so I guess I shouldn't allow this "information" to influence my audio CODEC requirements for a BD player :)! For a second I thought it might be "real" information.

Just a suggestion, if this is nothing more than a rumour (likely a weak one at that), it really isn't a good idea to express it as though it were fact. Thanks :)!
