Jiffylush 07-24-07, 11:30 PM Believe it or not, even though the season kind of sucked through the middle the end was very very good. If you haven't seen it and are concerned about the quality of the season, it does end very well.
turansformer 07-24-07, 11:40 PM Beat, how sure of this are you?
carnivale880 07-24-07, 11:43 PM this is great news...eagerly looking forward to the best season of tv's best show!!
theforce8686 07-24-07, 11:44 PM Beat, how sure of this are you?
The amazon link isnt good enough?
haulin oats 07-24-07, 11:52 PM Looks like it's time for me to become format neutral.
turansformer 07-24-07, 11:55 PM The amazon link isnt good enough?
No, its not. Amazon has done this frequently in the past as merely a placeholder for titles that have not received an official release date. For the sake of everyone on here, I hope it is correct. I personally love the show and would buy the box set in an instant the day it came out. However, I want to hear word from the source on this one, not an online retailer
carnivale880 07-25-07, 12:10 AM yeah you have to temper the enthusiasm a bit...i cant wait for a press release from disney because then we will know for sure its true...with all this though it now seems likely someone let the cat out of the bag a bit early a couple months back and now its time to start revving up the holiday slate.

Just got an email from my contact at BV and she confirms the 12/11/07 release date. She also said to look for an announcement of Desperate Housewives Exclusively on Blu-ray as well somewhat soon.

bunkaroo 07-25-07, 12:16 AM I'd really rather buy all Lost season at once than I have some in SD and some in BD, but I may not be able to resist this.
very cool indeed. the sooner the 4th quarter comes the sooner we can bury hd-dvd. Fox's 24 usually comes out on dvd around the same time as Lost. i bet the blu counterpart accompanies it.
Kroenen 07-25-07, 12:24 AM Thanks for the info Josh.
I'm not trying to derail your thread here, but could you please inquire about Sin City the next time you speak with your contact at BV. This is my most anticipated title. Thanks.
Believe it or not, even though the season kind of sucked through the middle the end was very very good. If you haven't seen it and are concerned about the quality of the season, it does end very well.
I agree a great ending.
I really wish they hadn't started Lost with S3 on Blu- I understand why, but I've never seen it, I was waiting specifically for it to hit Blu, and have no intentions of purchasing the first two seaons on DVD.
So unless S1 comes out on Blu, this one will have to be a no sale.:(
F**k yeah!! I missed the season finale and watching it in hi-def will be sweet. The show already looks good in SD, it'll look amazing in HD.
probably because season 3 comes out on standard dvd that date. so why not release it on blu. it wouldn't make since releasing season 1 on bluray on the same day as season 3 on standard dvd.
Rakesh.S 07-25-07, 12:39 AM $88? good grief.
the SD-DVD pre-order will likely be 29.99 after a $10 rebate at FYE..they do this every year.
$10 more than SD would've been cool, but $60 more is a little too much.
shadowrage 07-25-07, 01:30 AM Where are S1 and S2. I started halfway through S2(still as lost as everyone else though)
Where's Grey's Anatomy?
PCM would be hot for that.
purepvd 07-25-07, 01:42 AM Lost S3 on DVD is $38.99 for preorder at Amazon
Lost S3 on BD is $87.45 for preorder at Amazon
That's well over twice at much dough for the Blu Ray version. This seems way overpriced. I'd probably pay about $60 for the set on Blu but almost $90 for one season? I think not!
KerouactheCat 07-25-07, 01:59 AM This makes me one happy panda. Although this is the third time I've seen it announced. But never with a preorder link.
Any info about season one and two?
clear31 07-25-07, 02:08 AM Is there any chance of greys anatomy latest season being a blu ray exclusive as well???
AaronSCH 07-25-07, 02:19 AM I thought Disney abandoned Blu-ray? I can't wait for an official Fox announcement to cripple a few keyboards.
skibum5000 07-25-07, 02:32 AM I really wish they hadn't started Lost with S3 on Blu- I understand why, but I've never seen it, I was waiting specifically for it to hit Blu, and have no intentions of purchasing the first two seaons on DVD.

same here. especially since S1 is the only one that i don't have most of burned in hi-def already (although i imagine the blu-ray would be lot better than 720p broadcast OTA).
hassoon 07-25-07, 03:33 AM Exciting news and all, but I'm one of about 7 other people in this world who still haven't seen one whole episode of Lost. I'd love to see it at my own leisure in hi-def, though.
I'll have to skip this release and wait for the first two.

Considering the BD version is most likely to be far superior to the DVD version it's not overpriced at all. New technology, better picture, better sound comes at a higher price, just face it.
The BD version of Lost makes the DVD seems overpriced
singulus 07-25-07, 06:14 AM PLease god let it be codefree :D
The BD version of Lost makes the DVD seems overpriced
True. However it does seem a lot given that the set for Smallville and rescue me are $55
I guess it makes sense for them to release the S3 set now and revisit the early ones later given that most people probably bought the DVD set. The S1 set of Lost is one of the only DVD I've bought in years.
I'm not assuming anything though, until the announcement is official but Lost is overdue for Blu
WAY overpriced, but a great show nonetheless. If you cant wait to catch up before season 4, trust me the regular DVD's look great too.

Uhhh, compare it to all the over TV shows' released pricepoints and there is a huge discrepancy.

Then compare it to the popularity of the TV-show and the actual costs of it to shoot every season. Those other Tv-shows are just cheap compared to Lost.
The price for Lost S3 isn't "Way overpriced". Wanna talk overpriced? Then let's talk about The Matrix box, which contains movies from 8 to 4 years old? Now I don't see everyone muggin about that?
Lost S3 contains 6 Discs for the BD version if we may believe Amazon, that's 14 to 15 dollars for one disc, what the hell are we talking about? You can't expect to get it for free
cybersoga 07-25-07, 09:18 AM 1080p24?
teiresias 07-25-07, 09:32 AM 1080p24?
Season 1 and Season 2 were shot on film, so if we ever see those on BD I'd guess we'd get 1080p24, but Season 3 was shot with an HD video camera (as far as I know), and I'm not sure which one, so I'm not sure what the status of 1080p24 would be on it, though I'm guessing the answer would be no, but I'll gladly be corrected.

If you rent seasons 1 and 2 I promise you will absolutely FLY through them.
ShagMan 07-25-07, 10:11 AM I like beating up beatboy77 as much as anyone, but amazon DOES have this up for pre-order, so seems solid. Thanks for the heads up beatboy77!

Agreed. It seems to be the norm here. Sopranos Season 6 part 1? I mean, what happened to seasons 1 through 5?
TV Box Sets should be released in the order in which the show aired. Take a look at how the Simspons were handled on DVD.

JosephShaw 07-25-07, 02:33 PM The amazon link isnt good enough?
Well, Disney Home Entertainment squashed this one and Badder Santa once already when ithey were rumored to be coming, and then a week later Badder Santa was officially announced, but Lost: S3 was denied. It's not that it isn't possible, and I honestly hope it is, as Lost Season 3 will be a huge booster for BD. When the rumor hit the first time, many people who were either staying out of next-gen or were HD-DVD exclusive said Lost S3 was enough to make them get a blu-ray player.
JosephShaw 07-25-07, 02:36 PM If you rent seasons 1 and 2 I promise you will absolutely FLY through them.
They nearly got me fired. Until I made the mistake of taking up a crack habit, I mean renting Lost Season 1 Disc 1 on a whim at Blockbuster, we didn't watch TV. After that first disc, it was all downhill. We were tearing through discs and I was averaging 3-4 hours of sleep per night. Good times! :D
the final 2 episodes of Lost season 3 is tv at it's finest. the best i've ever witnessed by any tv series.

Ha, ha. That's how it was for me too.
Then I caught up on Season 3 and had to suffer the same kind of week wait that 24 has been killing me with for 6 seasons.
I wish I could watch it again for the first time. When I first borrowed it I just though "how on Earth can this be interesting? I mean surely they eventually just get rescued right?'
Boy was I ever wrong.

I rented season 1 for 5$ at a local mom and pop rental place.
I watched ALL of the episodes.. in a 48 hour span over the course of 1 weekend lol. I mean we're talking 22 to 24 hours worth of show here...
That is how addicting season 1 is.
I then watched the first 8 or so episodes of season 2 via bit torrent, because no DVD's were out, and it was already 1/3 the way into season 2.
Then I started watching season 2, then 3. Never missed an episode.

Yup...
The final episode of Season 3 was probably one of the most shocking moments I've ever witnessed on TV.

Nothing's been spoiled... but I bet our comments are making you weak at the knees :D
Just take into consideration that you will have ZERO, and I mean ZERO clue as to what is going on, if you step into season 3, without having seen Season 2 or 1.
Jedi2016 07-25-07, 05:24 PM Waiting for an official press release from BVHE. Otherwise, this is nothing but a placeholder page.

Associate referal links are of the form /ASIN/nnnnnnn/associateid, and there is no way for AVS to block the link prior to posting. Don't you recall the brouhaha when someone pointed out that the Amazon links thread was full of them? The mods deleted the thread.

all hail CC :D .
anyway, i am very glad to hear that they are releasing it, i'm sure it'll be able to be gotten for less somewher eor other before too too long. i just wish they would put out all seasons not just most recent for all these shows.

haha, i only started watching 24 this season. then i went back and rented the first two season discs and.... sad to admit, couldn't remove myself from tv until 8 all 8 episodes on the 2 discs down. i am already into season 5 now  :D . i just wish they had put them out on hi-def i hate wathcing SD now at this point, feels like a waste of time. but i couldn't wait any longer and couldn't top wathcing either. it was pretty sweet that if i had to start 24 late, this season was the one to do it, starting in 2,3,4 or 5 would've really badly impacted drama of earlier seasons, season 6 was set so far in the future that it didn't really spoil all that much from earliest seasons.
skibum5000 07-25-07, 06:29 PM I've never seen this show. So for those of us that haven't(which may probably be just me :p) we are pretty much screwed right ? I can't start watching from season 3.
yeah, no way. either rent the SD and catch up or hope they release S1 and S2 also in time to watch it all before S4 starts. i really think it;s dumb that they do all this latest season only on hi-def. and also dumb to not dump TV stuff all out fast. i would;ve been watching 24 in hidef instead of SD maybe even bought some at the high hidef prices. with TV you can't wait around to release.
The part at the end: /panandscathed-20.

Oh well. Doesn't concern me as I rarely buy from Amazon... :o

I do believe the title LOST was meant to describe the audience, not the people in the show ;)
Matt_Stevens 07-25-07, 07:18 PM It's a shame season 1 is not being released. This is a lost (forgive the pun) opportunity. Yeah, I will buy Season 3, despite the ridiculous price. But I don't have Season 1 in HD (I have the pilot of DVHS, but that's it) so that really sucks.
I have season 2 on DVHS.
FFObsessed 07-25-07, 08:16 PM YES! Day 1 purchase from me!
Id have to import it so are Disney's releases normally region free?

hockeynut 07-25-07, 11:01 PM YES!!! This is awesome news.
Price is a little high considering I was able to pick up Season 2 for $29.99 on DVD and the picture was incredible. I'm sure it will go on sale at some point. I can't wait to see and hear how spectacular BluRay will be!
nharmon91 07-26-07, 09:57 AM BADASSSSSSSSS, But I want the other seasons too.
stevenjw 07-26-07, 05:52 PM I've seen every episode and still have ZERO clue what's going on. :)
I only hope that the writers do or else we're all going to rise up and lynch them.
Seriously, the journey has been great, but the destination better not disappoint.
stevenjw 07-26-07, 06:06 PM Between Lost, 24, BSG, The 4400, and Eureka, I'm excited about TV programming. And Firefly was fantastic too on DVD. I've heard great things about Heroes and have that box set on order just so I can start watching another addictive series on TV.
I'm actually glad that the Sopranos and Deadwood ended just so I could finally cancel HBO, save money, and have more time to watch movies again. A series requires much more investment in time, so I'm not sure if the improving quality is a good thing or not. Well, at least not the quantity of great stuff. I'll run out of time and money at this rate!!!! :)
Then compare it to the popularity of the TV-show and the actual costs of it to shoot every season. Those other Tv-shows are just cheap compared to Lost.

According to the executive producer's podcast, season 3 was shot on Sony's HD cameras. (they described it as being filmed on Beta)
TheCuze 07-26-07, 10:24 PM Its still very early, so hopefully we'll see some form of price reduction in the next 5 months.
This fall/holiday is going to be insanely expensive for us Blu-ray backers.
Lost season 3
Harry Potter years 1-5
Blade Runner 5 disc set
Spiderman trilogy
Pirates 3
Kubrick movies
Close Encounters (Speilberg finally)
And thats just whats already been announced. I'm so broke this holiday, it's not even funny...
Lost and 24 are the two most addictive shows in TV history. I watched all 5 seasons of 24 on DVD in less than a month and Lost seasons 1 & 2 in less than two weeks.
I agree, although I would argue Season 3 of lost was nowhere near as addictive as 1 and 2. I didnt get started on Lost until Season 3 was 2 episodes in. A buddy loaned me the DVD's and I had burned through 2 full seasons in less than a month. It took some serious dedicated watching.
Another very addicting show to me is Criminal Minds. I started watching this past season, so I bought Season 1 and finished in less than a month as well.
Paultje66 07-27-07, 03:39 AM i thought season 3 was alot better than season 2. Still like HOUSE M.D alot better:)
mdc3000 07-27-07, 05:15 PM Although the msrp is pretty damn high, you'd have to chain me up to stop me from picking this up on blu-ray when it hits. Lost looks awesome on HD broadcast and I can only assume these discs will look even better... and it's one of my favourite shows right now, so it's a no brainer. So damn happy this got announced - for real this time!
Almir77 07-27-07, 05:22 PM Great news, but studio people we definitely need first and second season on Blu-ray too. So don't be cautious and hurry up and pack them soon. This is definite seller.
At this moment every possible Blu-ray set is 100% top seller. So pack them fast.

I have to agree.
I got into Lost around late Summer early fall last year. I think I watched the Season 2 finale on ABC's website for some reason, I got hooked and had to buy the DVDs. I burned through both season's in a week or so.
I also have to say for standard DVD they looked very good. I've loaned them out and have not got to check them out on my PS3 since the upscalling firmware was added. I was spoiled because when you watch it live you have to deal with commercials, stupid station bugs, and long waits between episodes and seasons.
I also started watching 24 this season, and of course had to catch up on all the seasons of that. Heck, 24 was the main reason I joined Blockbuster's Total Access. I would get 3 discs in the mail, and when I was done, switch them out at the local Blockbuster for discs 4 through 6 of that season. I watched all 5 seasons in about a month.

Anyway, for those Lost addicts out there, getting these on Bluray will be well worth it. Lost season3 was broadcast in 17mbit 1080p25 h264 here (UK), and it looks glorious - unfortunately my PVR ran out of space so couldn't store em all :-( Bluray will be even better still.

Why oh why can't we get those kinds of bitrates here?
Greedy-ass satellite providers. Less bandwidth = more channels.
I'd rather have 10 high quality HD channels than 100 bit-rate starved macro-blocked atrocities.
Oh well...

Greedy-ass satellite providers. Less bandwidth = more channels.
I'd rather have 10 high quality HD channels than 100 bit-rate starved macro-blocked atrocities.
Oh well...
*waits for fibre optics*
Although some fault can be put on the sat providers, I put fault on the local affiliates that multi-cast and lower bit rates.
Nemesis Inc. 11-19-07, 02:16 PM Well, I can tell you one thing, I DON'T HAVE A CLUE!!!!!!!!
But it's a Disney/ABC release. What have they done up to this point?
Isn't it Buena Vista?
Anybody elese have a clue?
Lost season3 was broadcast in 17mbit 1080p25 h264 here (UK),
Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Sky use MPEG2 and transmits in 1080i? 17mb sounds a bit high too
No buzz on this? Comes out Tuesday, right?
If I had a BR player I would definitely be buying, instead I'm probably just going to get the SD version. Should look ok upconverted. But BR set should look better than the original broadcast.
Price has come down considerably on the BR set... $65 @ amazon.
dork1337 12-09-07, 09:16 PM day 1 purchase. Ive seen what the episodes look like in HD and kate in hd sounds good to me
Rony Dunham 12-09-07, 09:32 PM Hi,
Could you tell us if the br are free zone ?
Many Thanks
GizmoDVD 12-09-07, 10:13 PM No early peeks at this set? I'm interested in the BR exclusive stuff. Hopefully my Amazon copy will arrive soon and it looks to have a slipcover over it as well. Nice.
carnivale880 12-10-07, 12:02 AM yeah can't wait... picking it up first thing on tuesday from best buy. they have it for the same price as amazon so i cancelled the pre-order to get this right away!!
The same price at BB is sad. I got my $35.99 pre order ccanceled and got a $10 digital coupon for it. Using the digital coupon Best Buy is still more expensive accounting for tax and the %10 discount I'd have at Amazon :(
tgenius 12-10-07, 08:48 AM If you guys call to complain, you can get your order re-instated.. I know of a couple of people who've gone through the trouble (including myself!)
Maestro J 12-10-07, 09:42 AM Yup, got mine reinstated and received the $10 coupon as well. Good times!!
Patrick. 12-10-07, 09:57 AM Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Sky use MPEG2 and transmits in 1080i? 17mb sounds a bit high too
It has to be 1080i, but even that is a lot better than 720p broadcasts we're stuck with here in North America. Here in Canada the CBC shows the show at 1080i in french for french Canadians so it isn't impossible
Imeldhil 12-10-07, 10:51 AM This season has been out in Spain for months now, but haven't buy it cuz' I was waiting to get info on the BD US release.
Some sites are selling it as compatible with region B, but can ANYONE confirm this??? I've seen it for a decent price surfing the net, but won't buy it untill I know if it is compatible with region B, and also some details on sound and subs (does it has PCM, or True HD, or DTS, does it has spanish, english, french subs, etc).

I'm not doubting it, I was doubting that SKY put something out in 1080p MPEG4 and at 17mbs.
giantchicken 12-10-07, 02:23 PM My Amazon order is not processing yet. Scheduled for delivery on 12/13.
ibglowin 12-10-07, 03:27 PM Mine neither. Should be processing by now. Looks like another possible late delivery from Amazon. At least Harry Potter 5 Disc set in BD is processing.
Spooky222 12-10-07, 03:33 PM Yea, this definately looks like a late Amazon delivery. All my other orders this week are "shipping soon" or have already shipped. "Lost" is still sitting there not processing.
ckenisell 12-10-07, 03:47 PM I did the free shipping option and it usually isn't shipped until the day of release (which I think is tomorrow.)
purepvd 12-10-07, 06:14 PM Ditto, my order is also not processing and all 5 of my Harry Potter's have already shipped. Prime btw.
nick1091 12-10-07, 06:50 PM It might not be just an Amazon thing. I've had this pre-ordered for a while on DVDPlanet and it hasn't shipped yet there either.
bunkaroo 12-10-07, 07:02 PM Mine hasn't processed either.
Also, DVDEmpire doesn't have a back cover scan up yet, which is usually a fair indicator they haven't received theirs either.
Since Best Buy is advertising this at $64.99, I'll pop by there in the morning if my order ha snot moved to Shipping Soon.
And it'll be yet another cancelled Amazon pre-order due to tardiness.
carnivale880 12-10-07, 07:11 PM if you are not already excited enough, the man room has just posted pics of the set they received for review. looks like a great package, far nicer than the unfortunate packaging for BSG from Uni. should also allay any fears that something could be amiss. my gf is picking it up as an early christmas gift for me tomorow. i've been waiting for this release since the ps3 launched and i got into bd. tomorow can't get here quick enough!!!!

bunkaroo 12-10-07, 07:19 PM Pretty sad that at the same price (actually a few bucks less), Buena Vista can put out a much higher quality product than Universal.
GamerGuyX 12-10-07, 07:46 PM I've never even seen the packaging for Battlestar Galactica on HD DVD. How bad could it be? Anybody have any pics?

I know one thing . . . the BG packaging is not nearly as bad as the packaging for Star Trek.

OK. I just saw pics of the packaging in the BG HD DVD thread. It really is baaaad. :o

Mind clarifying that a bit? If you mean Heroes I'm guessing you're talking about packaging if you haven't received your set yet. Heroes is a very nice set, the packaging beats out any DVD sets I have. As for image quality goes, we'll see

See the above posts. We've been talking about Battlestar Galactica.
I would have been pleased as punch of the packaging for BSG was as nice as Heroes.
Unfortunately, probably due to a smaller fan base than Heroes, Uni decide to go on the cheap with the BSG set.
Also, Lost S3 will easily look "better" than BSG or Heroes, but that's because BSG and Heroes both have a stylized look.
Not to mention Dinsey/Buena Vista has been turning out many outstanding transfers.
carnivale880 12-10-07, 10:46 PM yeah the photography and style of Lost suits itself to a high def release more than the intentionally gritty BSG. i like the look of BSG for its intentions but as far as pic quality you would have to expect that Lost will beat it out. Lost is a high def triple threat...great story, great sound, great visuals.
KerouactheCat 12-11-07, 01:54 AM I preordered both the blu-ray and regular dvd (for my mom) of lost, hers has shipped, the blu-ray has not. :(.
If I had anywhere locally to buy it I would cancel the amazon order in a heartbeat. I hope I can get it before the weekend.
Pics of the package:

Imeldhil 12-11-07, 05:51 AM from the pics I see the disc states region A only... so I'm guessing impossible to reproduce on B region... shame...

If you guys call to complain, you can get your order re-instated.. I know of a couple of people who've gone through the trouble (including myself!)
My re-instated set is backordered
Maestro J 12-11-07, 08:36 AM Mine is backordered too, mws.
bunkaroo 12-11-07, 08:41 AM 5 out 6 Best Buy's in my area have it listed as In Stock for pickup, but their website shows backordered.
I guess Best Buy's B&M stores get preference from the studio when there aren't enough to go around.
zombivenator 12-11-07, 09:00 AM My Amazon.com order also didn't ship this morning, wasn't even processing. All 6 of the Best Buy stores claim they have them in store so I did the in store pick up and will go get it today. I canceled my Amazon pre-order so Best Buy better actually have it!
tgenius 12-11-07, 09:19 AM Either the demand for Lost S3 on BR is much higher than was expected OR BB is trying to keep them BackOrdered so people will be inclined to cancel?
zombivenator 12-11-07, 09:26 AM Amazon now shows it as back ordered too:
Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your credit card will not be charged until we ship the item.
This item will arrive after December 24. For delivery after the 24th, we recommend FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Read more about holiday shipping. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.
BrandonJF 12-11-07, 09:42 AM Either the demand for Lost S3 on BR is much higher than was expected OR BB is trying to keep them BackOrdered so people will be inclined to cancel?
Worked for me. I cancelled my Amazon pre-order and picked it up at Best Buy.
Spooky222 12-11-07, 10:04 AM Same here. Cancelled Amazon this morning. Just picked it up at Best Buy. They had around six on the shelf.
tgenius 12-11-07, 10:35 AM Well I called BB about my Online order being backordered.. so she canceled it and re-placed it for in-store pickup at the same price!
ibglowin 12-11-07, 10:47 AM Wow, expected to see some movement on this today from Amazon. Still not even preparing for shipment. Hastings records has Lost in BD advertised for $59.99. Hmmmm. I really like my 10% off, no tax and prime shipping tho.
As for packaging, BSG is worse than TOS (I have both as well) You can't hardly even open BSG as the stupid rubber center pieces stick together like glue. Then you can't get the silly disc back into their spot either as you have to compress and force the disc back into the rubber center post. Totally **** packaging. The PQ is NOT all that great either for an HD series. Didn't look all that much better than SD DVD. TOS looks just as good I would say (PQ wise) and it was made 38 years ago.
bunkaroo 12-11-07, 11:13 AM Got mine from BB and canceled my Amazon order.
My store only got 5 in.
Rony Dunham 12-11-07, 11:17 AM One only question : Zone free or not ?
Thanks
GizmoDVD 12-11-07, 11:35 AM Amazon still has yet to ship mine...WTF. Same with my Bounre HD DVD trilogy too. Whats going on with them?
zombivenator 12-11-07, 11:42 AM Amazon still has yet to ship mine...WTF. Same with my Bounre HD DVD trilogy too. Whats going on with them?
Amazon says that the Bourne Trilogy isn't even supposed to ship until the 13th.
chidrock 12-11-07, 11:57 AM Thanks for the heads-up on the BB online orders being backed up. I placed a new order for in-store pickup that was ready by the time I finally finished my call to cancel the online order. (15 minute holds FTW)
JosephShaw 12-11-07, 12:14 PM Amazon still has yet to ship mine...WTF. Same with my Bounre HD DVD trilogy too. Whats going on with them?
Wow. I'm glad I canceled those last week and used a gift card at Target this morning. Now I need to find a way to get Target to pricematch, because it was $79.99 + tax.
Eric D. 12-11-07, 12:47 PM Amazon has yet to ship mine and I've had it pre-ordered since September!
KerouactheCat 12-11-07, 12:53 PM Any heads up on any online vendors that are actually shipping?
teiresias 12-11-07, 01:13 PM I've never had anything but trouble with Amazon and pre-orders of movies. They never ship the day of release and sometimes I have to just cancel the pre-order and put in a new order after the day of release that will actually start processing within an hour while my pre-order is still sitting there.
Amazon really needs to get on the ball with how they process pre-orders because it is woefully deficient. I've stopped preordering anything from them now.
clear31 12-11-07, 02:03 PM I'm pissed off as well I preordered this from amazon as soon as it went listed and it still has not shipped. I am a member of prime as well so that annoys me too.
I preordered bourne ultimatum and the harry potters on blu last week yet those arrived today. What the hell amazon
Deviation 12-11-07, 02:44 PM I picked up a copy from Best Buy today for $65. They had a half dozen copies of the Blu-ray Disc and at least 60 copies on DVD, probably more. Best Buy's retail price on this thing is $119.99. ****ing crazy. Then again, they want $99.99 for the DVD release of season seven of CSI. Plain old, regular DVD. I know that CSI has always been one of the most expensive shows on DVD but this is going above and beyond. Pure insanity.
shadowrage 12-11-07, 02:47 PM I bought Robocop last week from BB. The first time they wouldn't PM frys. Then they asked if I still wanted it. I looked at them like they're crazy. $35-no. $14 yes, yes.
They PMed the 2nd time. sweet.
I still haven't seen lost S1, I'll wait for that.
ggking3 12-11-07, 04:11 PM Looks like Blockbuster (online) didn't get this in either. I've had it in my queue for weeks and last night the availability changed from 12/11/07 to Coming Soon...
Eric D. 12-11-07, 04:13 PM This is so annoying. Amazon doesn't even have an estimate for my copy and only says that it's not in stock. What a bunch of tools. Maybe they should have made sure they had enough copies to fulfill all the pre-orders. It's not like I ordered it today.

Maybe it's not amazon's fault at all. If many of the other online retailers are having problems with this item, it's more like Buena Vista's fault.
Worked for me. I cancelled my Amazon pre-order and picked it up at Best Buy.
Same here. Cancelled Amazon this morning. Just picked it up at Best Buy. They had around six on the shelf.
That's lovely but could you possibly tell us what the set is like? Good PQ? Amazing PQ? What can we expect? Is it region free?
ckenisell 12-11-07, 04:38 PM That's lovely but could you possibly tell us what the set is like? Good PQ? Amazing PQ? What can we expect?
They may not have had a chance to watch it yet. They said they "just" picked it up at the store.
Is it region free?
It has already been stated that it is not region free. Region coded to "A".
stumlad 12-11-07, 04:46 PM Mine has an estimated delivery date of the 13th. However, if it's anything like pre-order for games, they will wait until midnight to inform me of a delay. My guess is, I wont get it till Monday....
Strange thing -- with Bourne collection they emailed me about a delay early on.
What is the point of pre-ordering if you will not get the title right around release date? I can understand if you pre-order 3 days before its released, but most of us have ordered months ahead of time.
firewalkwithme 12-11-07, 06:30 PM It has already been stated that it is not region free. Region coded to "A".
sure, but is it really locked for "A" only or can it be played on "B" players as well??
mdc3000 12-11-07, 06:38 PM The pics online look great, however when I saw it in store today at Future Shop, it only had the interior blu keep case, not the outer 'book' like casing... I've got this on order at Amazon and it's holding up an order that I'm counting on being here before Xmas...
giantchicken 12-11-07, 07:34 PM It's in stock at my local BB for $65 plus about $3 in sales tax. So I can cancel my Amazon order and get it today for $68, or be patient and get it for $58. Since I have seen all of these episodes already and have the Harry Potter box and Bourne Ultimatum to keep me busy for a while, I'm going to let my Amazon order stand and save the ten bucks.
teiresias 12-11-07, 07:55 PM Well, major problems playing this on my PS3. I went through the entire set and on my first run through trying to load all of the discs the only discs that would load were discs 2 and 5. Every other disc would hang and completely lock up the PS3 at a blank screen. I could get part of the XMB menu to come up by pushing the PS button, but it was the menu that only lets you turn off the controller or turn off the system.
On the discs that would not load it would play the Buena Vista stuff and warnings and any previews (in the case of disc 6) that played before the menus but it would always hang at the menu. The discs that did load showed a loading bar before the menu so it must be a java menu of some kind and it's having issues.
I did wipe down Disc 1 and finally got it to load the menu, but was not successful getting Disc 3 to load even after wiping it a few times. So now I'm at a loss. Return the set because it's a disc issue, or is it an issue with MY PS3, or is it a firmware issue that would affect other players too? Does anyone else with the set have a PS3 and is experiencing the same unreliability in getting the discs to load at the java menu?
clear31 12-11-07, 08:13 PM I want to cancel my amazon order and go with best buy but with the 10 percent off as well as the promo code for amazon visa card owners it came out to be 53 dollars for me.
Adam_ME 12-11-07, 08:15 PM I canceled my Amazon order since it said it was "temporarily out of stock". I picked it up instead at Best Buy using the $10 online coupon they gave me from the canceled order I placed last week when they had the price mistake on their website. The best part is that the lady at the store discounted it 20 bucks instead of 10(I have no idea why, but I'm sure it was a mistake on her part), so I walked out of there with the thing for 48 bucks and change. :)
As for the set itself, first of all the packaging is very cool. Memo to whoever at Universal was making decisions on Battlestar Galactica Season 1. THIS is how you package a 6-disc TV season boxset!
I popped in the season finale and rewatched it(it's split into two separate episodes on this set). Still an amazing 90 minutes of television. As for the transfer, it looks incredible! Better than the HD broadcast, and trust me, Lost is about as good as it gets when it comes to HD programming. The PCM track was pretty sweet too. I A-B'd the scene at the camp involving the dynamite(I'll avoid any more details for those who haven't seen it yet), and the PCM track sounds 10 times better than the DD 5.1 track.
I'll take a look at a few more episodes later and post some additional thoughts, but this is an easy recommend for fans of the series. Disney has done it once again.
Thanks Adam, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. How does it compare to other BD release in terms of PQ? Is it above average? One of the best?
Rony Dunham 12-11-07, 09:00 PM Hi Adam,
Thank you for your nice report
I'm also looking foward to re-watch the finale (and its absolutely amazing final scene between J & K).
It that possible for you to check if the discs are zone free ?
I know it's writen "Zone A" on the box, but sometimes it's not necessary true (Apocalypto).
Thank you for your help.
gmoney80 12-11-07, 10:02 PM I have to have this set this is my favorite show, i preordered it back in sep and it shows not shipped hopefully it will ship soon.
tgenius 12-11-07, 10:06 PM I must agree the Lost packaging is FANTASTIC.. VERY well done. I haven't had a chance to see any eps, but PCM tracks make me VERY happy; Can only hope S1 and S2 are released at some point (they were announced way back when no?)
P.S. Best Buy list pricing is $119.99 is ridiculous.

Have you tried forcing 24hz mode to Off? I had the same problem with my Pirates 3 disc (black screen pseudo lock-up) and found that I had to change the 24hz mode from auto to Off and it worked fine. Maybe the Lost discs have the same quirk for some people that the Pirates 3 disc had...
teiresias 12-11-07, 11:21 PM Hmm, I'll try that tomorrow before taking them back, but that would be an odd thing to have happen since it loaded the menu a few times under the same conditions, but not in any consistent manner.

I believe this is an issue either with your discs or with your PS3. All six discs for my set load and play just fine in the PS3 and I have had no issues loading or navigating the menus - and my PS3 has 24hz set to auto. And holy crap this show is gorgeous in HD.
Edit: Oh, and the packaging. In a word, it is excellent. I would be extremely happy if this format was consistently used for TV shows on Blu-ray.

As much as I like their pricing, Amazon has consistently frustrated me when it comes to shipping Blu-ray Discs, whether they're new releases or not.
dsa_shea 12-11-07, 11:54 PM I am so looking forward to watching this but we are still without electricity at my house. I picked it up today in anticipation of the Return of Electricity. Over 200,000 are without power right now where I live.
Neo_Reloaded 12-12-07, 12:05 AM Wow, absolutely awesome packaging. After getting Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica sets and hating the packaging, this is a breath of fresh air.
I can't wait to rewatch this season in HD. My girlfriend has her last final exam tomorrow, and then we can start (she'd kill me if I started without her, haha).

I popped in Disc 3 and watched about 5 minutes of The Man From Tallahassee. I didn't see the original HD broadcasts (over the air SD for me, aka horrible) so I can't make comparisons to that, but I found the episode to look beautiful. Very film-like - it looked like a high quality movie. Exceptional detail and bright, vibrant colors. If the whole series looks this good, I will be absolutely thrilled.

Very Nice!!! Hurry up electricity and come back on so I can go home and watch this. We're staying with a friend who is a few years behind us when it comes to technology. Thank God we have a place to stay though. We're in a state of emergency here. Thanks for the post about the PQ!!!
brermike 12-12-07, 01:38 AM This was the main reason I got a PS3 - for Lost in HD. I have been watching it in HD on cable and could not go back to just the DVDs (even though they always look great). I got the set today and watched an episode and all the special features and I couldn't be more happy. The set is quite impressive, including the packaging as many have already mentioned. I love the menus and the audio/video quality of the episodes. There is a panoramic shot near the beginning of One of Us that is simply breathtaking.
I really can't wait to see Season 1 and 2 on Blu Ray since I've only seen those seasons in standard definition. Hopefully, sales will be good and Disney will continue to release the sets!
giantchicken 12-12-07, 02:15 AM Hooray! Amazon updated mine and now it's "Shipping Soon."
They haven't changed the estimated delivery date of this Thursday. All my orders for new releases have an official estimated shipping date of Tuesday and arrival of Thursday, but they almost always arrive on Wednesday (never Tuesday, sadly). Looks like this will be one of the rare times that it actually comes when they say and not a day before.

I pre-ordered Lost Season 3 on Blu-ray September 14th using free two day shipping and I get an email just now telling me the "Shipping estimate has been changed to : January 9, 2008 - January 23, 2008,Delivery estimate: January 10, 2008 - January 24, 2008" :|
I see two people above me so far have had theirs changed to shipping soon, what the heck.
Amazon just lost my money on this one, guess I'll have to check some best buys :(
dominica 12-12-07, 07:29 AM If there are copies left at BB get it there. I got it for same price as Amazon, when I was in line I canceled my Amazon order, did not want to risk them sending it to me, and I had two copies.:D I love the packaging and the PQ and AQ is outstanding. A must buy for any fan.
Imeldhil 12-12-07, 08:55 AM Hi Adam,
Thank you for your nice report
I'm also looking foward to re-watch the finale (and its absolutely amazing final scene between J & K).
It that possible for you to check if the discs are zone free ?
I know it's writen "Zone A" on the box, but sometimes it's not necessary true (Apocalypto).
Thank you for your help.
Also Bridge to terabithia.
Very needed that info on this playing on region B player, to see if I buy it or not.
tgenius 12-12-07, 09:10 AM I have to say that Buena Vista has been mighty impressive with their releases. I haven't gotten a chance to see any of the eps but the packaging is probably some of the best I've EVER seen.
The PQ is fan-freaking-tastic. Especially during the daytime scenes on the island. Disk Ones first episode mainly starts out with Jack in the bunker, so you really don't get to see the quality of the PQ much, but when Kate is brought out to Ben on the beach, my jaw dropped! This show was made for HD!!
Dark scenes can get grainy, sometimes almost BSG grainy, but they still look pretty good. The daytime scenes are ridiculously hot, the detail is immense. Not only can you see the grain of facial hair, but you can tell which way ever individual strand is bent!
stumlad 12-12-07, 12:12 PM Hooray!
When did you order yours? I ordered on Aug 8th and they waited until today to tell me it has been delayed:
Matthew Fox (Actor), et al "Lost - The Complete Third Season [Blu-
ray]" [Blu-ray]
Estimated arrival date: 01/11/2008 - 01/25/2008
I just dont see the point in pre-ordering anymore.
JosephShaw 12-12-07, 12:12 PM Does anyone else with the set have a PS3 and is experiencing the same unreliability in getting the discs to load at the java menu?
No, I have not had the same problem. Are you trying to force 24Hz playback? What firmware version are you using?
ckenisell 12-12-07, 12:23 PM OK, I have to say this is an AWESOME release. I cancelled my amazon order and bought it at Best Buy. Here are my impressions:
I have only seen episode 1 "A Tale of Two Cities", but I watched it twice. Once with PCM uncompressed and the other with audio commentary. I have to say, the uncompressed soundtrack was amazing. The audio commentary track by executive producer Damon Lindelof and actress Elizabeth Mitchell, however, was lame lame lame. If they had been recording their commentary in the same room, I think Elizabeth might have just gone down on Damon right there while Damon would have been telling her how good her back-of-the-head acting was.
Also, the packaging, although very nice as mentioned by many above, could still stand some room for improvement (I work in the corporate environment, there's ALWAYS room for improvement). First, with the actual blu plastic Blu-Ray case being wrapped in cellophane, it was a little difficult to get it out of the big surrounding case. Also, the door that has to be opened on the external big case has to be opened extra wide, effectively damaging the external big case along the swivel line. This is a small complaint as it's very very picky. One last comment about the packaging: The small booklet inside the Blu-Ray case covers the first disc. It is difficult to remove the booklet because the other part of the case is in the way of being able to slide it out. So, you pretty much have to manuver the booklet in a weird way (which could damage it) just to get to the first disc or to read the booklet.
I am, however, looking forward to watching all episodes and, hopefully, the audio commentaries get better.
One thing that I REALLY REALLY REALLY liked about this release is the "Blu-Ray Introduction". Here's it is mentioned that it's the absolute BEST quality of Lost EVER released (including if you watch it in HD when broadcast live on ABC-HD.) They even do a simulation of SD to HD video. This is great for demoing the advantages of Blu-Ray. The menus are cool and I look forward to diving into the special features on this release as well. Picture quality and audio quality are fantastic. I can't believe how much television production quality has increased over the years.
I'd like to see a similar release of Daybreak on Blu-Ray. :)
ckenisell 12-12-07, 12:27 PM Other quick notes...
I'm using a PS3 and have had NO problems playing back ANY Blu-Ray product. I ALWAYS keep my PS3 firmware up to date. My advise: Keep your PS3 online and do all the firmware updates when released.
I wanted to say that the make-up crew on Lost is awesome too. This is especially apparent when viewed on Blu-ray. The bruises on Ben's face while on the beach looked REAL as though they were under the skin. Cuts looked real too. Fantastic.

You mean those weren't real bruises?! I am so looking forward to this and Amazon has still not shipped. What is up with that? Not that I don't have enough stuff to watch with all of these BOGOs, but Lost would certainly go to the top. Let's hope this set sells well and Disney with revisit both Seasons 1 & 2 on blu-ray soon!

I'm running firmware 1.90 and have never had a problem playing any disc either, so staying current on firmware is not a necessity.
Anubis2005X 12-12-07, 01:35 PM My PS3 is always up to date, and I have problems with Pirates 3. Got a Samsung LNS-4095. Hopefully it's just some firmware issue that can be resolved in the future...

Fantastic. But Jack's moustache and beard in the finale looked awfully fake and stuck-on.
After further review... of this thread, I'm heading out to BB today to pick up a copy of this series.
clear31 12-12-07, 03:08 PM My amazon order doesnt even have a intended ship date. Nice considering I preordered as soon as it went up and I am on prime.
teiresias 12-12-07, 03:17 PM My PS3 is always updated to the latest firmware, but it did give me an error when I tried to load Hairspray earlier today - not the same kind of behavior, but still an error. I'm going to exchange the discs, but I hope my PS3 isn't going south!!! :(
My amazon order doesnt even have a intended ship date. Nice considering I preordered as soon as it went up and I am on prime.Mine mention an "arrival date". I guess that's when they expect the item will reach their warehouses.
JosephShaw 12-12-07, 03:34 PM After canceling my Amazon order and buying from Target, I returned my set from Target ($79!) and picked it up from Best Buy for $66 last night. The amazing thing is the $119 price tag on the Lost S3 BD box from Best Buy! I was shocked, and I hope that's not the price they plan on charging starting Sunday.
I have to say that the visuals of the set are stunning in BD, even compared to the HD broadcast. Even my wife was ooohing and aaahing.
Travisimo 12-12-07, 03:45 PM Picked up this set at BB today. Popped in the first disc and was totally impressed by the sample of quality I saw. I can't wait to settle down and watch all of the S3 episodes again before the next episodes start in Feb 08. Hopefully this writer's strike will end so that we get more than the initial 8 episodes for S4.
movies2090 12-12-07, 04:07 PM When I got the set, my bro wanted me to pop in disc 5 to check out the finale and the differences in quality compared to the HD broadcast (which he kept on DVR) The 1st time I loaded it, the same thing happened, Buena Vista and the other misc menu's came up, and then all black. Had to turn off whole system. Ejected and tried again, it came up. So you aren't the only one who has experienced this before. My bro has a brand new (and updated) PS3 and has watched only one movie on there before Lost so I don't think it's the system but definetely something to do with loading the next menus. We will see....
giantchicken 12-12-07, 04:20 PM Amazon just sent me an e-mail saying that it is now expected to ship on the 14th-15th and arrive on the 18th-19th. The charge is in my account and it has been in the shipping soon status since yesterday without the option of cancelling, so the package is ready to go. But, as has happened before, they would now need to overnight it to get it to me by the promised date of tomorrow. So instead, they bump the promised date by almost a week and just send it out regular ground. Saves them some money.
LordofDoubleD 12-12-07, 04:23 PM I want to comment that the audio is so amazing - way better than the compressed garbage we get through cable. I've got 7.1 and you can hear all of the little water drops when Jack is in his aquarium cell. The music for the show is great too, sub really feels good on the low toms in the theme. Picture is amazing - no macroblocking or artifacts which we are constantly dealing with through cable. Can't wait to rewatch them all.

Thank you :D

Sorry to be a little OT, but do you know if they will release the 8 or hold everything back until it's all done? (typical Lost behavior would be to release the 8 though)

They're playing at least some of the episodes - ads are already running that say Lost is returning in February 2008.
The current rumor is they will only air the first 6 of the 8 produced since those 6 end at a reasonable point - not a cliffhanger. Episodes 7 and 8 are said to introduce a lot of brand new things, and the cliffhanger at the end of 8 would be excruciating to see and then have to wait months or a year to see the continuation of. No official decision has been made though.

According to a rumor post on the Darkufo fan site, there is a logical break in the story arc at episode six of season 4, and some execs are talking about only airing episodes 1-6 in February instead of all 8 (provided the strike doesn't end soon). That would be disasterous if true, but it's only a rumor until they get confirmation. It should be noted that Darkufo is pretty good for being accurate with their rumors, and they claim in this one came from someone on the inside at ABC.
giantchicken 12-12-07, 05:28 PM Well, just as I expected, my copy has shipped today! I received a tracking number about three hours after they revised the shipping estimate by six days. It is now due next week instead of tomorrow. They knew they would have had to ship it overnight and so they bumped the delivery estimate, giving them the freedom to ship it for less.
Grumble...
Maestro J 12-12-07, 05:29 PM Just got an email from BB that they shipped my Lost BD today. I got in at the price mistake they had last week and then had to call and get it reinstated once it was canceled. All is well now and I should have it for the weekend!
Amazon finally shipped my set. Prime member, they shipped it by 2 day fed ex.
Does anyone of you could check if the Discs are zone free ?
I don't think it's possible to check very easily. Someone would need a R"B" player and probably a R"A" player (otherwise why would they buy it)
I could check but I won't be getting this set soon unless I buy it myself. My suggestion, if you really want it buy it and if it doesn't work put it on ebay
My re-instated set is backordered
Shipped today from BB for $37 and change. Thanks to tgenious for inspiring me to spend an hour and 10 minutes on hold to get the mis-labeled price.
Now, what to spend that $10 gift card on......
I checked mine this morning and it says shipping estimate Dec 17th and Delivery estimate Dec 24th. I chose free super saver shipping so this does not surprise me. How are some people getting this at BB at $65 while others are reporting it a full list price? Does it vary by location?

Best Buy's sale price this week is $64.99, I just looked at Amazon and it's $64.95. For a day or so last week, it was mis-labeled on BB for $34.99. All the $34.99 orders were eventually cancelled and there were mixed results for people who called to complain. Some people were able to convince the rep (and manager on duty) to give them the $34.99 price, others were not.

I'm glad I was able to provide the motivation.. I'm curious what I will spend my $10 coupon on.... BOGO from Best Buy perhaps? :D If only their prices were competitive.
teiresias 12-13-07, 12:07 AM Just an update on getting these to play in my PS3. I had my PS3 set to force 24Hz (it was set to "On"). I first set it to Automatic and it was a little flakey starting the discs, but was a bit better about it. Then I set 24Hz to "Off" completely, and I was able to start every disc without problems.
It's good to know it's not really the discs, but I would like to be able to play these in 24Hz.
Those of you with PS3s that are reporting no issues, may I ask if you're using 24Hz playback or not?
Given that people are seeing this same issue on PS3s with POTC:AWE and both of these are Buena Vista releases I wonder if there is something weird in the way their doing their discs or if this is something wrong with the current PS3 firmware's 24Hz implementation?

it seems to be sellng well at BB. went to my local BB and it was already sold out!
ran over to the farther one and got the LAST copy.
says $119 on the sticker. the note below it says special price $79 will appear at register. the flier says $65. so i guess it is $65 until sunday and then $79 for a limited time after that before eventually going to the crazy $119.
I put disc 1 in my ps3 this morning and it locked up after the previews also. I had it set to 24Hz on. I then turned it off based on what people were saying on here and it still locked up after the previews. I then tried again a third time and just hit the top menu button on the remote right after I put it back in and it showed the loading bar and all was fine after that. Have not turned 24Hz back on yet to see if it will work that way, but will test it when I get home.
adamwc1776 12-13-07, 04:36 AM Playing back on a Kuro 110 through a Monster Ultra 700 from a Panny BD30 set to 1080p/24Hz, Lost Season Three represents the best picture quality I've ever seen. This is why I bought an HD set. This is what all hdtv programming SHOULD look like (and probably will in a couple of years). Scintillating level of detail, terrific dimensionality, eye-blowing color depth.
The sound is amazing as well, enveloping, detailed, very active surrounds.
Pure wowness. Disney, thank you for taking this release so seriously and nailing it. Do the same thing with the first two seasons and do it soon!
adamwc1776 12-13-07, 04:37 AM Oh yeah, I too canceled my Amazon order and picked it up for $64.99 at Best Buy. They had tons of them. I'm worried about my Blade Runner order for next week!
Perhaps these discs have been encoded at 1080p60 and forcing it into 24hz mode doesn't agree with the PS3. I'm sure they can firmware fix that though
ckenisell 12-13-07, 12:06 PM Those of you with PS3s that are reporting no issues, may I ask if you're using 24Hz playback or not?
Not. I checked all 6 discs last night and have zero, nada, zip, zilch issues.
stumlad 12-13-07, 05:31 PM My Lost set just shipped from Amazon. They originally wrote me an email (1 day after its "estimated" ship date) saying it would be delayed:
"Lost - The Complete Third Season [Blu-
ray]" [Blu-ray]
Estimated arrival date: 01/11/2008 - 01/25/2008
I check my email today and find that they shipped it and will be here Monday I almost went to best buy earlier to pick it up. Ugh.
Of course, my Bourne collection hasn't shipped yet... which was supposed to ship today.
I'm REALLY happy with this set. PQ is phenomenal and it sounds great.
dildatonr 12-13-07, 08:43 PM any 1400 owners play these discs yet?
folgersnyourcup 12-13-07, 09:20 PM Ugh, I hate the packaging! I am on my 2nd set right now and am back to Circuit City again. In both sets the inside packaging (the actual part that houses the discs) was broken and the discs were scatched. I have gotten these from two different Circuit City stores and am on my way to a third now... I got both Circuit City's last copy... Both of my local Best Buy stores are out. Anyone else have this problem??

Most of my local BB were sold out of this today but was lucky to fine one that had it in stock. I just opened it and my packaging seems fine. This is my first TV series purchase in a hi-def format.
I just finished watching the bonus material on disk 6, nice stuff, watched the first couple of episodes and the PQ/AQ were top notch. Viewed on the PIO 95 blu-ray player and Pio 6010 plasma.
ryoohki 12-14-07, 12:08 AM Outside scenes are Crank Sharp, but without the Haloing and EE.... i saw i couple of compression artifact in the 1 and 2nd episode (Sky and banding/Block in the cell with Jack) but none in the 3rd. So far it's pack more punch then Prison Break but it's not as perfect (compression wise).... Bitrate very from 15 to 35 depanding on the scenes..
Rony Dunham 12-14-07, 06:41 AM Bad news.
Lost Season 3 is locked, and doesn't work on a PS3 zone B.
Anyone play these discs in the new Sharp Blu Ray player?

My third after Sopranos Season 6 Part I and Sopranos Season 6 Part II. :D
I just have to say that I think it's a REALLY good sign that this season seems to be sold out at a lot of places and demand is VERY high for this. Maybe Buena Vista will like this and hurry up with season 1 & 2 on Blu sooner rather than later. Plus, if they get it out before the strike is over, they won't have to pay those writers what they're asking. :D
As much as I want this, I want Season 1 much much more and I that's the only one I have on DVD!

This set is worth it for the BD exclusive answer portion of disc 6. Lots of definitive answers given on various questions and new clues to other stuff. The DVD set did not get that feature.
Also, I don't understand the complaining about Season 1 and 2 not being available. This is a day and date release with Season 3 DVD. If you pick up 3 then the chance that we'll see Season 1 and 2 released sooner are better. Don't, and you take your chances.

Agreed. If you want Season 1 & 2 in High Def, for the love of God, go get Season 3! ;)

If that's a response to me, I don't understand. I'm saying I have Season 1 on DVD and I'd happily double dip if they release it on BD. I didn't buy season 2 becuase I wanted a Blu-ray edition and likewise with season 3. Like you say getting season 3 could encourage them to release the first two but I'm getting it regardless! I don't think anyone is saying they're getting season 3 on DVD rather than BD or holding out completely.
Played part of disc 2 last night and it was stunning. I accidently put in disc 2 last night partly because of the way it's packaged. I even took out the booklet and looked at that, but there was a piece of paper behind the booklet hiding disc 1 so I didn't even see it at first and popped in the wrong disc to start with.

smkstang1 12-14-07, 11:16 PM God, I hate Best Buy...
I ordered Lost on the pricing mistake and of course we all know it got canceled. Got the $10 coupon like the others and reordered with a 10 discount...
Ordered for an in-store pickup to get it faster. On the way to the store, I was remembering my previous in-store pickup involving the Departed (They brought up the dvd version and when they checked for the HD-DVD, it was gone). I spent almost an hour at that time and was really exhausted from all their crap.
So I am reading the email and on the bottom I see it says:
When you get to the store and you give them the email or the order number and you dont get your order within 1 min, you get $10...
So what do you know, I get to the store and I give her the order number off of my email (did not have the physical paper, just had my treo). So, of course, she comes back with the dvd version, and I am just super furious... Before actually taking my order, she made me stand there for 10 minutes. I informed her that that is not the item that I ordered. After arguing for a whole 5 seconds, she realized it and called for the Blu version.
The stock girl, brings up the right version and the lady at the counter gives it to me. I looked at her and said: "I will take that $10 now." She replies you did not give your paperwork. I said: I dont need to, the email states that I only need to give you the number... She starts moaning and groaning... I said: "I am not going to argue with you, get me the manager."
She walks over to the manager and I cant really make out what she is saying, but it was something about no paperwork... After a few moments, the manager turns to her and tells her: "the timer starts when he gives you the order number."
Got my $10 for order cancelation and $10 for them being slow and stupid. Definitely made me happy to make them pay. I hope they all rot in hell...
Ok, end of rant.... :)
Preditor74 12-15-07, 12:15 AM Just picked up my copy at Best Buy using the printable 10% off coupon...they took it with no problems even though it excludes sale priced items.
Rewatched the first episode and man does it look great! I am planning on going through Season 3 again so I am ready for Season 4 in Jan.
By the way...as already stated...the packaging is fantastic. The cardboard outer case is VERY sturdy and shiny.
Dot50Cal 12-15-07, 11:15 AM Some shots, it looks fantastic!

Just sitting here in shock and awe at how good it looks. Wish all the shows look like that. Now we need season 1 and 2 to come out.
Is there anyway to find out how many copies it has sold on hi-def?
Are any of you guys using a PS3 and is it working with 24p output for this set?
tgenius 12-15-07, 01:45 PM Lost looks fantastic. Popped in last ep and its just stunning.. my only complaint is the first time I did load it, I got a black screen and had to shut off the PS3, second time it loaded just fine; Leads me to believe there's a firmware issue somewhere.
I recently bought my 42 inch Toshiba HL167 (I think that is the model) does anyone know if it supports 1080p/24?

Yeah, that's happened to me a few times as well. Right before the little loading bar pops up it'll lock up...usually works fine the next time I boot it though.
Hopefully we get a firmware upgrade soon.
Does the Canadian packaging have French writing? If so, I'll order it from Amazon.
Synergy38 12-15-07, 04:13 PM Speaking of packaging, has anyone posted pics of their set? Curious to see what it all looks like.
Thanks

The one I bought (in Canada) didn't have any French writing on it.

http://dot50cal.the-horror.com/avs/lost/5.jpgNice post Dot. It's convinced me to go out and buy this Blu-ray version. With all the detail in the shots, I'm also very impressed with the outstanding job the makeup artists have done with details such as their facial injuries. With the detail that Blu-ray is conveying, they have absolutely no margin for error or half measures that would make it apparent that it was just make up.
shadowrage 12-17-07, 01:05 AM I think this is the first review.

that's what I was expecting from this show. But I thought it had 24bit PCM?
Good work disney. But I still haven't seen season 1.(why start with 3, just to be faithfull to the lost story style?)
