Equipment i have right now.

Sony KDS-60A2020
PS3
Pioneer Elite VSX-35TX(old school)
Pioneer Elite DV-37 (old school)
Boston Acoustic speakers 5.1 setup

Im looking for something in the 1k range give or take a few hundred will be ok. I've been out of the home theater scene for awhile now and really dont know all the new audio formats. DTS-MA, True-HD, etc. What receiver out there can take advantage of the new audio formats, HDMI in the 1k range? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would say a Denon 2307CI but you want a HDMI 1.3 receiver.

Maybe the Onkyo 805 is up your alley.

another question, when using HDMI for video/audio, you run the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the Receiver to the TV? Does that effect the quality of the picture any? Or do some receivers have scalers and what not?

If you check Onkyo's web site the 805 does have a scaler, and yes you will run HDMI into the Reciever and then out to the TV...

Ideally you wont loose anything in terms of video/audio quality.

how about in the $200-300 range??

I recommend saving another 200-300 and getting something at least along the lines of an Onkyo-605

I use the SONY STR-DG810 and have had no problems with it. Bought it for $288 form J@R.com.

3 HDMI in 1 OUT
LPCM AUDIO ( over HDMI internal decoding )
6.1 audio
the DG910 is a step up to 7.1 for $100 more.

(HDMI 1.2) My top choices!
Yamaha RX-V2700
Pioneer-Elite VSX-84txsi
Denon AVR-4306
(HDMI 1.3)
Onkyo 805 & 605

Even with an HDMI 1.3 receiver the player still has to make the decoding of the audio formats since it "still" can't send the undecoded(bitstream) signal for the receiver to decode. (hopefully in a future & soon update)

I'm happy with my Denon AVR987. I have HDMI going from the PS3 to the receiver and then to a Sony KDS-60A2000. I don't notice any picture quality difference if I go straight from PS3 to TV or through the receiver.

Amen to that list, Ive got the Yamaha. I think in his price range though someone else said it best, save a few bucks more and go with the Onkyo 605. Cant be the features/price yet.

I got my Onkyo 805 hooked up Friday and so far I love it, especially the macro learning remote. Never had that function before and it's super nice getting rid of all my extra remotes (well except the damn bluetooth)

I would definitely recommend the 805. I got mine online for $800 shipped overnight. Feature to price ratio cant be touched on this thing, and it looks absolutely fantastic in black. Just make sure you have plenty of room for it, it's very big and 60lbs!

no problems with my the Onkyo 804. You dont really need a 1.3 HDMI AVR unless you have 1.3 TV. As many have found out the PS3 doesnt send the New HD audio codecs via bitstream It likes to do all the decoding on board, which makes 1.3 pretty much null and void.

does the onkyo 605 come as HTIB or do i have to purchase the speakers separately??

okay, just found out it's only a reciever.... so where can i get a good set of speakers for say less than $200??

I returned an Onkyo 604 because it kept dropping audio from the PS3 (connected via HDMI). Can anyone confirm that this problem has been rectified with the 605 and 805?
