This patch annoys me in the audio area because of the CD audio changes...

I want unaltered audio streams sent to my receiver from Blu-Ray, DVD, CD & .WAV sources via HDMI.

Here is how I see it:

1. Blu-Ray: Set to Bitstream to send unaltered audio to receiver to decode.

2. DVD: Set to Bitstream to send unaltered audio to receiver to decode.

3. CD: Set to "44.1 / 88.2 / 176.4 kHz" and uncheck "Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz" & "Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz"

4. .WAV: No flippin clue LOL, but maybe the same as CD???

Can someone please tell me if I am correct or correct me if I am wrong?

EDIT: I notice that if I set the CD settings as stated above, then playing a .WAV file shows up at 5.1 PCM sound on my receiver even though sound is only coming from the front R and L mains. Can anyone explain this? I believe someone stated in another thread that the PS3 always sends out PCM in multiple channels and mutes the unused channels...odd if this is true

EDIT: Rear L & R speakers have a very low white noise coming from them when playing a 2 ch. WAV file 16bit 44.1 kHz. What am I doing wrong?? *sigh*

I can only knowledgeably respond to the 1st point. If you have BD output set to bitstream and you select a DTHD soundtrack, it's only going to send 2.1 channels to your receiver, even if the original is 5.1. That's even if it is hooked up via HDMI. This is a limitation of the PS3, not your receiver. Now, your receiver can still take the 2.1 and matrix to 5.1 or 7.1 with PLII or PLIIx if it supports that feature, but if you want to get 5.1 channels from the PS3 with DTHD, you have to set the BD/DVD audio output to PCM and let the PS3 to the processing.
I'm with you on this one, I can't wait for a firmware update that will allow unadulterated audio from the PS3 to my receiver. On a side note, I also can't wait for them to update the unit to allow the bitstreaming (or decoding, for that matter) of DTS-MA. That would be cool.
