Going to buy my PS3 tomorrow after I get off work, so I'm ordering cables for it from monoprice now. Just wanted to confirm that the 60GB version does not come with an ethernet cable as well as no hdmi or component.
Thanks in advance

If you're going with component, I recommend getting the better cables. I found the difference between the cheap ones and the expensive to be quite noticeable. I have no experience with HDMI, however.

Ok, I'm not quite up to speed here so I'll ask some dumb questions... I don't have the PS3 yet, but plan to buy one soon.
I have Verizon FiOS internet service. The PS3 should work wirelessly with the the FiOS provided router, but a hardwired connection will be preferable, correct? Is that what the ethernet cable is for? If so, how far can an ethernet cable run? I have the router on the opposite side of a large room from where my TV is, so running a cable will likely be like 30' or so. Is that fine?

30' is no problem for ethernet.

Ethernet cable is the generic term used for Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, etc. patch cables.
Cat5 cable can be run up to 100m (328 ft) without signal loss at 100Mbps.
Cat5e cable can be run up to 100m (328 ft) without signal loss at 1,000Mbps or 1Gbps.
Cat6 cable can be run up to 100m (328 ft) without signal loss at 10Gbps.
I believe the PS3 is packaged with a 6' Cat6 patch cord.
