I'm assuming you can charge the controller using any mini usb compatible charger, right? Has anyone done this before? Hard to tell when this thing is charging as there're no LEDs to indicate this. Thanks.

??? The LED's flash if it is charging... the led's on the front that indicate player 1,2,3,4.. they flash.

If they arent flashing, its not charging.

It must be a standard powered mini usb interface. Not just a mini usb connector.

I use a USB from a digital camera to power the second controller. You have to make sure your PS3 is at least in standby mode I believe. If you have it completely off..>I don't think it will charge.

I use the USB cable from my PSP to charge my second controller.

Theres an old thread about this, but LOTS of people use the Motorola Cable Box, PCs, etc.. to charge the controllers. The PS3 is the last place you want to charge, since it has to be ON. Standby mode will not charge anything.

Get two controllers at least. Charge one using the PS3 while you use the other then switch.

I use my Motorola Q wall charger to charge my controllers all the time. I also use the USB ports on my computer quite often.

The Blackberry chargers seem to be a bit weak for some reason. When I first got my Moto Q I tried using the Blackberry charger to charge it and it didn't work. I believe it is a lower amperage than most other chargers.

I use my Motorola cable box. The light don't come on because it's not communicating to the PS3.

Thanks for all the responses. I tried using my Moto Q charger but the LEDs on the controller never turn on so I'm assuming it's not charging. It charges while connected to the PC, so that's what I'm using. Thanks.

I use my WII. It works when it is in stanby mode too!

Woot! Thank you Myrtle! The fact that the PS3 doesn't charge the controller in standby is just one of the many, many things that is mind-blowingly retarded about the platform. In an attempt to circumvent this issue, I even went out and bought an additional surge protector that has USB-power as one of it's output options. The controller just sat there with it's arms crossed and said "no!", though my iPod Touch charges from the same port just fine.

My Wii in standby mode, though? It's right next to my PS3, and even has a single port on the back free for helping to fill gaping holes in their competitor's platform deployment. Good job Sony!

I've always used my cable box. First it was a motorola dct6416, now I have Directv and use the HDDVR. The make these boxs with the USB slots, however they never actually use the usb slot... so it's only practical use is charging things (I use it to charge my cell phones also)

You can pick up a 15 ft usb cable so that you can play while it's charging

Yeah, that sounds like a "wireless" controller to me. :)

I use my Moto PVR as well. The charging indicators light up even when charging from the Moto.

I'm guessing it uses less power in standby mode because of this.

I don't care either way since my HTPC is right there next to it and does a fine job of charging them.

That would be my guess too.

I really don't care either because I usually just use my cable box even when the PS3 is on. I also used my PC and laptop to charge controllers before too, seems like most things with a USB port works.
