Do you have your PS3 plugged into a battery back up system? With my previous consoles, the threat of a power outage frying my system didn't frighten me but since the PS3 is in standby mode when off, wouldn't a power outage damage the console? Would it be wise to invest in a battery back-up? I have my ps3 plugged into a $10 power strip now.

Thanks!

I have mine plugged into a surge protector. Along with my TV and all my other equipment. I think getting backup battery power is a little over the top but I've been wrong before.

First, stanby mode is not really any more succeptible to damage than a hard off (which you can do by flipping the switch). Yes, technically a power surge could fry something just like it could with any other console, or piece of electronic equipment. A power outage itself is not of much concern, unless it is powered ON. Then you risk damaging the hard disk, just like with any PC, Xbox, etc..

Personally, I'm like tneck and just use a surge protector so I can guard my TV, Receiver, and PS3 from the real threats. Then again, I don't suffer through many outages around here.

I have my entire Home Theater going through a APC UPS. Not only does it provide battery backup, but it handles undervoltage too which I hear can damege your components as much as overvoltage or a surge. My HTPC died on me like 4 times before I bought one. Same thing each time: Power supply died. I finally got the UPS and its been going strong ever since.

If you get one make sure its one that you can connect to a PC and will log what has happened to it for a few weeks. I found out that I was loosing power in the wee hours of the morning this way and the power coming back on was probably frying my PC...

I have 4 APC smartup units (1200-1400) that run my TV room, computer room, kitchen tv, and bedroom tv. When power goes out you can still watch or play games, and is very good protection as ANGELUS said!

I have all my a/v equipment on a Monster power hts3600 powercenter. i tried the ps3 with and without the power conditioner, this thing really works, it makes the black look darker, and white more whiter, colors look more vivid.

A surge protector would be a good idea - get anything with power conditioning or an equipment guarantee and you should be fine.

A battery back-up would just give you time to save your progress in the event of a power outage, just make sure everything required to view your PS3 needs to be hooked up as well (TV & possibly reciever, modem/router if you want to stay online).
