Thanks Jules, I will have to check out the new boarders in town and see if they carry HD DVD's yet.

That interesting, Borders in Australia also has 30% off - but here it is only for a book, and only for the next week!

Is it a full service store, or a "Borders Express"? I've got a big Border's a few blocks from my office and they have a decent, but pricey, selection of new and catalog HD DVD releases.

Yes, they have been for quite some time. I've bought quite a few from them with the various coupons and deals they have sometimes.

Same here. The 30% off coupons are the only way to go since Borders sells HD DVDs (and BluRay) at the full MSRP.

I still wouldn't even bother. With that coupon at their prices, you are probably better off using Amazon.com.

As far as I can tell, it is a full service store-its a good sized store. I was just in it about a month ago, and they didn't have either format, or they were so well hidden, that I didn't see them.

I've been using 30% off coupons to buy HD DVDs there for months. One location here carries them, one doesn't. Most of the titles listing for $29.99 come out to $21 which is a fair price. They scan these coupons then hand key them in, there really is nothing preventing you from using more than one. The card doesn't limit you, remember they give you three cards so your family members can have one and coupons are one per customer, not one per card. Just bring some family members along and have them buy movies too.

Well, hopefully locations here will start selling them soon. So far I've never seen any local Borders selling HD-DVD's in the Indianapolis area. Though I haven't been to the one downtown in a long time.

But they send those coupons out so often, it'd be nice to take advantage of them.

You could havve an 80% off coupon and you still wouldn't have saved any money.

Total ripoff.

Wow, is anyone else seeing what I'm seeing?

Planet Earth: The Complete Collection [HD]
DVD ~ April, 2007 ~ In Print
List Price: $99.99
Borders Price: $79.99

30% off = $24

$80.00 - $24.00 = $56!

Wow, I am so there this weekend! Thanks so much to the original poster for this! Hell, I may just pull a few stunts and print this out a few times! :)

Edit: I wonder how much they'll have 300 for?

I think it's 30% off the list price of the item. So in this example it will be around $30 and your price will be around $70. So I don't think it is a good deal.

If 30% is off the Border's list price as you say, then it's SWEET!

I just called the local Borders and they didn't have it in stock, but said they could order it. They also said that the REGULAR DVD version is $79 and the HD DVD version is $99. :(

Still, has ANYONE seen Planet Earth cheaper than $70? If so, let me know, because I'm still seriously considering this. :)

You might still be better off to buy it from amazon or DeepDiscount for around $67? Because at Borders you will have to pay tax on $70 price.

True, true. Thanks to you both for the suggestions, I'll take a look! Still holding out for the slight possibility that they(Borders) may have 300 for less than $40 on the day it hits. ;)

They are definitely rapists when it comes to pricing on virtually, well, anything, but with the 30% off coupon, some of their stuff may actually be a deal. I don't know, we'll see how it goes. I am going to stop by this weekend and see what they have. Will be interested to see how much 300 is, and how much it'll be with the coupon.

A couple of months ago they had a really good buy 3 get 1 free deal and there was also a $10 off coupon that you could use along with it. So there are definatley deals to be had at Borders, unfortunately some people just write them off and bash them because the sticker prices are MSRP, but the fact is there is always a coupon available for at least 20% off. It still may be higher than Amazon, but they beat Best Buy and Circuit City's prices for those of us who want to walk in and buy something every now and then rather than waiting for a shipment.

I take it you don't have a Fry's in your area. I recall Fry's having "PE" for around $64.

I will check out one of my local Borders. I always remember them as making Best Buy look like a bargain. They were only good for magazines and coffees.

I work at a Border's in Houston, TX and none of them sell any HD DVD or BD...yet.

Our store is getting in a few copies of 300 for both formats, which is the first HD movie we'll be selling to my knowledge.

Huh? That's an Amazon link, and a broken one at that. You're right but I got there by typing www.borders.com. The site says "Borders teamed with Amazon". I never noticed the HTML address switched to amazon.

Can't get the link to work so here it is as a literal:

Hey JulesH thanks for the post!

I went to my local borders and didn't see an HD section.
I was about to leave and noticed they mixed them all in
with the regular DVD's so I scanned each shelf for the shorter
cases and grabbed Trading places and the untouchables.

I only wanted to walk out with on though and it was a tough
call, but then I remembered the scene in trading places with
Jamie Lee's Hooters, so I got that. :)

Well glad some of you were able to get some movies with the coupon. I just saw it on the net and thought I would post it.

Yes, that scene is quite nice. They should have an option in special features to loop that scene.

I thought the whole point of the HD DVDs being advanced was bookmarking?

I just realized why scene sharing is cool. I definently don't want to buy Alexander, but that one part with Rosario Dawson is pretty cool. ;)

skip it; I'm already importing. :) woohoo.

maybe I can use the coupon for the bourne identity. It has that one scene with Clive Owen.
