hi all, i'm looking to buy a CRT TV. I've seen the term "screen geometry" here and i know it means how straight the vertical and horizontal lines are on the screen.
but how do you measure it? when i look at specs of a tv, how do i know if the tv has a good geometry?

Change it to a news or business channel and watch the ticker across the bottom. If it's cut-off or bent, then there are geometry problems. But, all CRTs have geometry problems. You just have to decide what you are willing to put up with. Most Sony sets are known to have good geometry out of the box and perfect geometry after a professional calibration. Most Samsung Slimfit CRTs are known to have extremely poor geometry due to the thin size of the set.

You have to see the TV in operation to judge geometry.

Yes it's called "A Dirty Little Secret".

And the dirty little secret is, no CRT will ever have perfect geometry, especially the poorly-made ones that you'll find in stores these days.

The manufacturer will not talk about geometry to the consumer. Only service techs are supposed to know about it and how to adjust it.
