I have a 42" Pioneer plasma that is not 1080p--it's 720 or 760 or something like that (model 4270). At some point I'll get an HD player, maybe when the format war concludes (Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD). But I'm interested in getting the Planet Earth DVD set.
Can anyone tell me how to assess how much visual effect I will give up if I get the standard DVD format of this series, as opposed to getting a Blu-Ray or D-DVD version and upgrading now to corresponding HD player?
In case it matters, I think that maybe the Pioneer plasma cannot even input a 1080p signal. So I guess that the issue here is whether to have the TV upconvert or to have the player or TV downconvert?
Thanks for any tips,
David
