View Full Version : 480i output for hdmi on PS3 PARASITE 07-27-07, 04:33 PM Hey I just wanted to chime in on here and see if anyone else wants sony to add 480i output for hdmi, so we who have better scalers in our tv can take full advantage of them for dvd's. Amon37 07-27-07, 04:38 PM Alot of displays don't support 480i over HDMI and the PS3 has been determined to have one the best DVD upscalers. colossus 07-28-07, 10:21 AM Alot of displays don't support 480i over HDMI and the PS3 has been determined to have one the best DVD upscalers. Let's see if the idiots from the 1080i-only bashing crowd apply their retarded logic here.... bkchurch 07-28-07, 10:32 AM What kind of TV do you have that scales 480i to HD better than the PS3? drshady 07-28-07, 10:33 AM No, I don't think the majority of us are going to use what ports we have available to upscale the PS3. But heck why not, maybe they could make it an option. monkeychucker 07-28-07, 12:10 PM I would love this option as my projector (Benq w500) has the Reon chip which is supposed to be a better scaler. PARASITE 07-28-07, 05:01 PM I'm not for sure, but I would suppose my pioneer PDP5080 plasma has a better scaler then in my PS3. bkchurch 07-28-07, 06:28 PM I'm not for sure, but I would suppose my pioneer PDP5080 plasma has a better scaler then in my PS3. Have you tested this? Because most TV scalers are usually good at best and I've seen the PS3's upscaling abilities in action and I'm pretty impressed. Very good work smoothing out jaggies and not a lot of artifacting. Jay_Davis 07-30-07, 03:23 PM Yes, I want the feature. The PS3 is now pretty good, but if you have something better, it would be really nice to be able to take advantage of it. Not all TV's accept 1080p either, so does that mean the PS3 shouldn't support it? Amon37 07-30-07, 04:34 PM Not all TV's accept 1080p either, so does that mean the PS3 shouldn't support it? I never said that they shouldn't add it of that it wouldn't make sense, I was just saying that because it may be a reason why they haven't added it yet. I wasn't trying to be negative. joeblow 07-30-07, 07:33 PM To get 480i, I just connect a Component set of cables from my PS3 to anther input channel on my SXRD XBR2. I go HDMI for almost everything else, and just internally switch the output from the XMB. Hopefully they'll add this ability in one of the upcoming updates. |
