I have a DVDO iScan HD and I am looking for a DVD player to pair with it. I have a JVC G11 DILA projector with an odd resolution, so the iScan pairs with it nicely and scales my other sources well. My problem is that I am confused about what sort of DVD player to get. It does not seem like I need the upscaling feature, or even a deinterlacer. If I look for a DVD player without those features, I am left with either bottom of the line current models or older high end models. I am concerned that a cheap model will have too many compromises in its design and a older model will not take advantage of the latest technology and parts. What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Scott

I would look at the Oppo DV970HD. It has 480i over HDMI. Use the HDMI output of the DVD payer to your DVI input on the iScan HD. This will keep your video stream digital from the DVD player through the iScan.

Just a word of advice for anyone who is in the same situation that I describe above: this Oppo DVD players do not provide as much value with the DVDO iScan HD as I had hoped. I ordered the DV-980H in order to hook it up via that DVI port on the iScan. However it will not work. The iScan HD will only accept 480p and 576p signals, and only if the signal does not contain any encryption (like HDCP). The Oppo players output encrypted signals on HDMI, so the only way to make them sync with the iScan HD is to use one of the analogue outputs on the Oppo. This should not be an issue on the higher end DVDO scalers, but owners of the iScan HD should be careful.

I think I am going to return the Oppo and use one of the old DVD players that I have laying around, which output analogue signals just fine. I will wait for the higher res DVD situation to sort itself out before I jump back into the DVD market. By that point, I hope to have upgraded my scaler to something that can take HDMI.
