Just curious how much everyone thinks the expected price drop on Xbox360 will affect HD sales, both in online and HD disc format

$20 lousy dollars? No affect. $149 maybe. $99 definitely. They blew it.

Are you talking about the Xbox 360 itself, or the add-on? It's not clear in your post title or in your text. As far as I am aware, there is nothing on the cards for a price drop on the Xbox 360 itself despite many rumors; Microsoft so far seems OK with standing pat on their current hardware pricing on the main units.

If you were talking about the add-on which received a $20 price cut, you should have said so.

I was meaning about the console price drop, but feel free to factor in the HD DVD drive price drop as well if you like.

There is a Wal Mart flyer pic posted online with the new price.

Everyone will say the price drop won't happen for the next 30 minutes, but this is the same way the PS3 price drop anticipation started...

Don't think any, tbh.

Regardless of the price you still need the 360.

Unless you wanna watch movies on your monitor

$20 + 5 free movies until the end of September. We'll probably see another small price drop like $30 for the holiday season when the 5 free movie promo ends.

I think the 360 price drop affects HD sales much less than the 360 HD DVD add-on price cut + 5 movie promo.

There's a lot of interest using the add-on with a HTPC because of the price and the amount of people who have success and experience hooking it up to their PC's. If you compare it to the prices of the HP HD100 external HD-DVD drive, that's currently going for $250 with software.
All the blu-ray burners are listed at $800 for a HTPC.
So the Add-on is still a cheap solution to anyone with a recent computer that wants to watch HD films and not interested so much in games.

Belongs in gaming.
