I saw "Out of Sight" last night. This is the movie with George Clooney as a career criminal and Jennifer Lopez as the government officer who is pursuing Clooney's character but who is also infatuated with him. It is an early Steven Soderbergh movie came out a number of years ago.

The plot is not credible but the movie is entertaining nevertheless. Clooney and Lopez give good performances. They're is some electricity sparking between their characters. You may want to consider this one if you're looking a good time.

Are there any other overlooked movies (HD-DVD- or Blu-Ray) that anyone wants to recommend?

I LOVE Out of Sight, great movie and lovely HD DVD. How is the plot not credible?

My vote is for Seabiscuit. Not a whole lot of talk about it, but it's the most beautiful HD DVD I have seen yet and a wonderful movie.

I'd recommend Grand Prix (http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Prix-DVD-Brian-Bedford/dp/B000I2J2WM/).
The movie follows the 1966 F1 season and has some of the most amazing racing footage ever put on film.
The race filming was done by affixing the camera to a Ford GT which could keep up with the F1 cars traveling around the various tracks at speeds in excess of 200Mph.
Some might find the story a little slow-going, but it's not bad and has that wonderful relaxed 60s feel about it.

I enjoyed "Primeval" on BD.

Based on Gustave, the giant croc.

Good CGI, and a fun movie to watch.

Others gave it a poor rating as a film, clearly no classic,

but it will make you jump in a couple of places. ;)

Agreed

I've not seen that many movies on HD-DVD but not only is it a v good movie (not quite greatness imo) but the transfer is sublime.

There's a chapter in the movie when Maguire leads Seabiscuit out into the woods for an afternoon kip/read. That scene has the biggest wow factor i've had so far with HD-DVD. Picture is amazing. :)

I had bought the Blu Ray back before it was even announced for HD DVD then when the HD DVD came out and the review at highdefdigest said the pq was better\sharper on the HD DVD so then I ordered the HD DVD and will be selling the unopened Blu Ray(I don't have a Blu Ray player yet). This taught me to wait and read reviews first....but didn't know it was coming to HD DVD.

Excellent movie! Caught me by surprise of how much I liked it when I saw the DVD.

I currently use a MI-3 (HD-DVD) and XMen3 (BD) when I'm out installing either the HD-DVD and or BD in a new home theater system. Both are great for demos. I use the part where Tom Cruises falls onto the plane by the overpass. Great for surround sound. Xmen I use the part toward the end where Jean Grey turns into The Phoenix, that is completely insane in 1080P with a good sound system. I need to find a few that are more targeted toward ladys that does a good job of demonstrating the video and audio any suggestions?

Another agreement

Seabiscuit has amazing picture quality, I really can't believe it is overlooked so often when people talk about reference picture quality. Just looked up Seabiscuit reviews and IGN says the video quality is sheer perfection (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/794/794611p2.html). From now on when people talk about reference discs I am going to mention Seabiscuit instead of some of the usual suspects like King Kong.

Checkout "The Ant Bully" - The movie is OK, but the animation looks absolutely fantastic in high-def. We watched "the Mummy" last night and we were in awe, a great visual movie. I order up the sequal this morning (and 3 other HD DVDs!).

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people have avoided buying The Dirty Dozen because of its low, low rating on the reference thread. This is really sad. As many have mentioned, yes, there are some VERY soft images during scene transitions, but other than these totally unavoidable instances (they are in the original transfer and can't be altered), the PQ of this film is quite excellent. Very sharp. 90% of the film looks fabulous, 10% is poor. So, unless you're entirely anal and can't handle anything that isn't 100% spectacular without hurling, you really can't go wrong with it.

Seems most of the movies people are listing hear I wouldn't consider overlooked, but this movie is a good one for sure.

I'd say maybe Curse of the Golden Flower since it's foreign and excellent IMO.

YES. One of my favorite movies and it's such an awesome HD disc.

Phantom of the Opera on HD DVD is definitely a knockout for audio. The first TrueHD is still one of the best, and even has great PQ to boot! The first scene when the theatre comes alive, and then the first time the Phantom brings Christine down to his lair... excellent scenes to show off. I'll third Eternal Sunshine as a great, overlooked HD title.

This is probably just me, but I would have to include Four Brothers. I watched this anticipating quickly not liking it. It turned out to be a favorite of mine now. Pretty good PQ even though I believe it is low on the tiers. It also has alot of action and drama in it. That is just my thoughts on it though.

I also have to +4,5,6 or whatever it is now the choice of Sahara. Popcorn flick at it's best. Sit back enjoy, don't think... my kind of movie to relax with. :D

One movie that I don't see talked about to much on this forum has to be "The Rundown" Yes it has the rock. But I just finished viewing this movie and I must say NICE. It's the original 1938 Technicolor Robin Hood movie with Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone and Claude Rains. Unleashed - Martial Arts/Drama/Action hybrid written and produced by Luc Besson(The 5th Element, Leon The Professional). Brave film-making, where most of it works, and excellent fight choreography. The end scene, in the bathroom, alone is worth the price of admission. Great transfer of a very stylized film and the soundtrack rocks.

The Deer Hunter - Exceptional movie all around. The 65mm mountain shots exhibit great depth and beauty. And contrast profoundly with the grainy and distressed Vietnam scenes.

Casablanca - A classic gem that looks amazing in High Definition.

Well, I wouldn't call it overlooked, since it's been regarded as a classic for decades, but if you don't have it, for pete's sake, buy it today. It's a terrific movie that looks terrific on HD DVD. (If you can take your eyes off Olivia de Havilland and the technicolor costumes, look at Olivia de Havilland's horse. After the movie was made, the horse was sold to Roy Rogers, who renamed it--Trigger.) The extras include two Looney Tunes cartoons--in HD.

people talking about Serenity being overlooked must be new around here. the first 4 months of the format, Serenity is all we talked about. :)

Million Dollar Baby - superb movie and some of the best shadow detail i've seen in high def. lots of pop and texture in bright scenes.

Clerks 2 - one of kevin smith's best, and the PQ is very contrasty and saturated without loss of fine detail.
