Sony player died and i'm not ready to plunk down $500 on a blu ray player yet. Looking at this particular player. The price is right for me and it plays all the formats I'm interested in.
My price range is about $150, so please keep any suggestion inthat range.

Seriously get a Oppo 980HD for $169 (I know slightly more) but it has everything you want in a not so expensive universal player. The 970HD is still also available for $149 but not as good. You could buy a Sony DVP-NS77H for $85 to $100 depending on where you get it. Also the Phillips 5982 is very cheap $60 good player.
Yawns go to Panasonic 53S, Pioneer DV-400, and avoid Samsung 1080P7.

OK, I'm assuming that the pio is not a very exciting player, but could you elaborate on why the oppo is better when compared to the Pio. I'm more an audiophile than a videophile.
I will say, I am not really wanting another Sony product. I have not had a lot of luck with their product as of late, and I have that philips in my bedroom. I want something better than that, but for the money, it is an awesome product.

I want something better than that, but for the money, it is an awesome product. From Oppo's site (http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/default.asp) Regarding the brand new 980HD:
"OPPO designed the DV-980H with a focus on precision rendering from Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio, HDCD and regular CDs. Its digital-to-analog (D/A) converters feature 192kHz high sampling rate and 24-bit resolution. The driving stage uses carefully selected op-amps and capacitors. Combining these premium components in an optimized design, the DV-980H reduces quantization distortion and accurately reproduces the analog waveform, resulting in faithful, natural, detailed and rich sound."
The previous player the 970HD (http://www.oppodigital.com/dv970hd/dv970hd_review.html) got numerous compliments and awards from many audio buff's and pro's.
I think you find a tough time finding a better player for the price if your a audiophile. ;)
