Ah well, at least we get a good English soundtrack without forced subtitles. :) ni9ht_5ta1k3r 07-29-07, 12:14 AM Ah well, at least we get a good English soundtrack without forced subtitles. :) Yeah, I don't wanna see any of the characters speak in a dubbed Japanese voice unless: a) I want to have a laugh b) Remember a really kick-ass line and be able to say it in Japanese josephmckinney 07-29-07, 12:21 AM This just might be the one import I get! RockStrongo 07-29-07, 12:26 AM Too damn expensive....$38 each volume on yesasia Id love to get it, but I think ill wait. ni9ht_5ta1k3r 07-29-07, 12:29 AM Amazon Japan is having it at 3,800 Yen (about $32 USD) per volume for international customers. If you had pre-ordered it before July 27 it would have been only 2,850 Yen ($24 USD) per volume. I think this set will be $100 when its released in the states. ni9ht_5ta1k3r 07-29-07, 12:38 AM $25 each isnt bad....does each volume have 2 on it? I think this set will be $100 when its released in the states. It's 2 episodes per disc and there's 5 discs. I still haven't received mine so looking forward to getting it. EDIT: I guarantee that the US version will be cheaper and be in a complete box set unlike the Japanese release. I also think that the US version will have the same features as the DVD but that's my opinion. RockStrongo 07-29-07, 12:42 AM It's 2 episodes per disc and there's 5 discs. Ive seen it sooo many times though, I can wait. Enjoy it when you get it! ni9ht_5ta1k3r 07-29-07, 12:48 AM When it does come out it would be interesting to see if there's any (real) difference between the Japanese AVC H.264 encode and the US VC-1 encode (as warner's default codec). Kannisto 07-29-07, 01:32 AM Ah well, at least we get a good English soundtrack without forced subtitles. :) Yes the menu is in Japanese only, I made a quick translation of the menu in the other thread + in the imports sticky thread. You can see some info on the "specs" in my post here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11147169#post11147169 Note that the documentary extra on disc 5 has English audio with forced Japanese subs but in the main features (10 episodes) the Japanese subs are fully optional. Yes, Amazon JP sells HD DVDs at MRSP most of the time, only in the pre-order phase before the release date they offer 25 % discount. Some other Japanese online shops are offering them cheaper than MRSP (though not as cheap as Amazon pre-order price was). They might not have international shipping nor much support for English though, I'll post here if I find some other good source for international orders with discounted prices. lgans316 07-29-07, 02:21 AM RIP-OFF JAPAN. The land of and for the riches. Michael Whan 07-29-07, 03:30 AM I'll be waiting for the US set on this but I'm really looking forward to it. ni9ht_5ta1k3r 07-29-07, 05:17 AM I can understand why some ppl will wait for the US release but I will jump onto any version of any movie and even this if it means getting it before the US release. EDIT: Finally, the status of my order has been updated!! ni9ht_5ta1k3r 07-29-07, 07:51 AM For those who can't read the menus and need a visual guide. Thanks goes to Kannisto for posting the translation. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/big_kel/bb1copy.jpg Kannisto 07-29-07, 11:51 AM For those who can't read the menus and need a visual guide. Thanks goes to Kannisto for posting the translation. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/big_kel/bb1copy.jpg That visual guide looks just great :) Another visual guide for setup menu might be a good idea as well but I guess there's no screenshot of that one floating around. I don't have any good setup for taking screenshots here either... Just finished watching episodes 3 and 4! akbled 07-29-07, 02:10 PM Yeah I'll be waiting impatiently for the US release of this one. I don't want to spend the time learning Japanese Milt99 07-29-07, 08:51 PM Yeah I'll be waiting impatiently for the US release of this one.Good luck to ya! Thanks for the visual guide. Much appreciated. jmpage2 07-29-07, 10:58 PM Yeah I'll be waiting impatiently for the US release of this one. I don't want to spend the time learning Japanese It's rather frustrating that this was promised for 2006 and we still haven't seen it yet. This is my favorite mini series and it's painful to know that it's done on HD but hasn't been released yet here. madpoet 07-30-07, 11:27 AM Much appreciated for the visual guide, though I did eventually figure it out :) jmpage2 07-30-07, 11:29 AM What's the PQ like on this one? I believe that these were all shot in film but I could be wrong. They are very stylized and 'crisp' on DVD but sadly I never saw the original 720P HBO-HD showings of them. madpoet 07-30-07, 11:49 AM See my comparison in the other thread. |
