I know this sounds like a newb question, but someone at circuit city told me that HD-DVD's dont output 1080p, only 1080i. Is this true, making no point in buying a 1080p LCD?

HPforMe 07-29-07, 01:36 PM I know this sounds like a newb question, but someone at circuit city told me that HD-DVD's dont output 1080p, only 1080i. Is this true, making no point in buying a 1080p LCD? It's idiotic. A20/XA2 and Xbox 360 addon all do 1080p. And if you have a 1080p set it would convert A2 1080i to 1080p as well. ludeboy12 07-29-07, 01:37 PM depends on the model. HD-A2 outputs 1080i/60 which can be properly deinterlaced back to 1080p with any decent 1080p tv. HD-A20 outputs 1080p HD-XA2 outputs 1080p the person at CC obviously either has a BD agenda or doesn't have a clue. Is this true, making no point in buying a 1080p LCD? That is one of the most popular misrepresentations of HD DVD. Toshiba does have an entry HD DVD player, the HD-A2 which can output 720p and 1080i but not 1080p. The other HD DVD players can output 1080p. Almost all HD DVD's have 1080p video on it, there might be one or two which have 1080i. But HD DVD does 1080p. akbled 07-29-07, 01:55 PM Yes you're always going to be better off doing your own research on products than listening to the salesman who obviously wants to push you into a higher priced blu sku. Some can be knowledgeable, but in my experience they are almost always full of it. I can't tell you how many times I've been in CC and BB and overheard these people spewing some of the most unbelievable BS. |
