No Microsoft.
No Universal.
Weinstein was present, but could not tell if any HD DVD stuff was being advertised.
Rouge Pictures had a big display with around 12 to 15 plasma screens going pumping trailers to movies. They were heavily promoting Hot Fuzz. At the end of the trailer it would always say coming soon to DVD and HD DVD. 3 of the plasmas were always facing a very crowded food court. Plus the two hot girls passing out
info on the film, I'm sure helped.

On the Blu side, it was buddy buddy for Sony and Disney. Sony had a Blu-ray display, and Disney had a giant display with plasmas all around a pirate ship promoting movies for Blu-ray. They were doing a split screen between DVD and Blu-ray for the same movie.

Some 360 notes Capcom was promoting games, and were running on Xbo 360's, also Sierra was promoting Timeshift and the F.E.A.R. sequal running on 360's.

One last note I am so happy I have to tell someone, I picked up a copy of
THE KEEP on DVD imported from New Guinea I think. 1:85 ratio with 2.0 DD.

New Guinea? Sounds like a boot. Besides, wasn't this a 'scope film?

300 HD DVD was mentioned and featured prominently, including discussions about the interactive content that might be made available on bluray once BDJ is finalized ... which would mean next year BD owners get to rebuy the title.

At the POTC booth, the guy doing the display demoed a POTCDMC game (on a ps3) that "can't be done on HDDVD". I shook my head and left while the lady was confused, thinking that the game was a ps3 game (since the player was a ps3).

HD-DVD had virtually no presence at the con this year and that's a mistake. MS was nowhere to be found but xbox 360's could be. Same with Nintendo.

On the box it says 1:85 but you are correct, I finally put it in my Denon, and It's at least a 2:35 ratio, but not enhanced for 16:9 tv's. It also comes with the theatrical trailer.

It is probably a port from the letterboxed laserdisc (which I own, by the way).

This would make a fabulous HD DVD, which might be (remotely) possible, since it was released by Paramount.

The G4 coverage focused on Star Trek and Heroes on HD DVD, did any one at the show notice much about those?

I saw the seminar about the HDDVD star trek TOS. $220. Steep for my tastes but its remastered and I think all combo discs.

Yeah, I saw a lot of blu-ray promotion on the floor, however the Heroe's and and Star Trek Panel promoted HD-DVD. Also, 300 and Blade Runner panel showcased the HD-DVD and blu-ray formats. Someone even asked the 300 panel why they were favoring HD-DVD with more features, and the producer said blu-ray wasn't capably at this time, but they will re-release the movie in the near future. Weinstein Company wasn't promoting any HD-DVD's either, and they are releasing Death Proof in September and Planet Terror in October with no mention of an HD-DVD edition.

Wait, are you *sure* it's combos? They expect me to pay $220 for potentially faulty disks? That's like being punched and spat on simultaneously...

Wait, are you *sure* it's combos?Mmm-hmmm.

Note the HD DVD and DVD logos in the packaging:

...and the first line of the press release confirms it:

CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment invite you to experience STAR TREK: The Original Series as never before when the legendary first season arrives for the first time ever in a 10-disc HD DVD/DVD combo disc set on November 20, 2007.

What makes you so sure there's any faults with Combos these days? I'm pretty sure beginning with a2/xa2 v1.5 (or maybe v1.6) that combo disc issues were resolved. I have several combo discs and they've never been a problem for me (XA2). Make sure you do a firmware update.
