I just want to make sure, so does costco have a lifetime warranty on video game systems because I just got the ring of death on my 360 and I want to get a new one and I want to know if i buy a 360 from costco tomorrow and then a year or 2 from now if my system breaks can I return it and get a new one?

Does costco sell the elite at the actual store because it isnt on their website?

It's been on the website off and on. Their policy is still friendly to the xbox since it's not a computer, but I could see them changing their electronics return policy at some point.

I recently returned one after 6 months there no questions asked.

As far as the elite, they've had it on their site off and on but I've never seen it in a costco store (I was there at my local store just 2.5 hrs ago and I checked).

You're aware that microsoft will cover your broken 360 right? They just extended the warranty to 3 years for the ring of death (3 red rings). Sorry if you knew this already, but just wanted to let you know in case you thought you were stuck with a busted box.

yea i know about it and i have a warranty through circuit city for my broken xbox. i just dont feel like waiting over month to play my system.
and i have read soo many stories about people getting sent refurbished 360's to them instead of their 360 getting fixed or getting a new one.

i just want to get it from costco because then it would be easier to get a new one if it breaks because i could just walk right in and exchange it.

and when my 360 comes back from circuit city or they give me a new one i'll just sell it

again, costco is not your liablity from your last thread on this very same subject.
you have a 3 year warranty on your 360, if you wait a month, your probally get the system with new layout on the mainboard which will be the "fix" to the ongoing problem MS is having.

as far as elites, you can find them on website if they are in stock and retail doesn't carry them

yes you can do it, is it right? only you would can tell yourself and i think you are questioning yourself since you asked the question again.

and what i want to do is not abuse. i just want an easier process of returning my system if it breaks, im not going to just return it in a year because its old or anything like that.
it WILL break its inevitable so i just think all stores should be like costco where you bring it to them and they give you a new one and then they can send it to microsoft or something.

and microsoft should fix the problem instead of making more systems that they know are gonna break

I was actually making a general statement, not specifically towards you. Anyway, ofcourse it WILL break.......did you actually think it will last a lifetime? If it breaks within a reasonable amount of time and you return it, than its not abuse. If it breaks 10 years from now and you return it, thats abuse. But whatever, to each his own beliefs and principles.

unless 10 years from now i exchanged it for the same system and by then it wouldnt really be worth anything.

but anyway yea i only plan on returning it if it breaks within like 3 or 4 years.

Now, I see where you're coming from but at the same time, how is it abuse when Costco is the one that wrote the return policy? If Costco decides there is an unlimited amount of time to return a product - then why not? To me it is abuse if there is nothing wrong with the product and you just return it because there is something better out but if it's broken...

At the same time, I would feel pretty embarrassed to return anything 10 years old...

I dont necessarilly think its an abuse to return a broken unit for another unit way down the road. What pisses me off is when people return a good older unit for money in order to buy a new item. This is an abuse of the policy and this is why they cancelled the TV policy. If it wasnt for abusers like this, than we could all have security in our TV purchase.

All you abusers stay away from Sams Club. They have yet to change any return policy and I like it that way. My TV was 6 months old and it did break and I was able to return it and get a Samsung. Had I bought it at Best Buy I wouldn't have been able to do that.

And here is some information

I bought a brand new 360 from costco last monday (my 2nd one, the 1st got the ring of death and ive had it for 1 year) and last night it broke. i had it for 7 days and it just stopped reading discs

now how the hell can these systems be built this bad?

I was playing mlb2k7 and i just got done playing a game in my franchise mode then saved it and then i went to play another game and my system started making this noise like the sound of spinning a skateboard wheel with rusty bearings.

and it was sooo loud i just shut my system off turned it back on and tried playing a game but it just doesnt read discs so i am going to to return it to costco in a few days.

and this loud noise happened to my 1st xbox but it still worked fine.

now when i put a disc in, there is like a clicking noise and keeps saying unreadable disc.

and then this morning before i was about to leave for work i noticed my system was on (probably hit the guide button on the controller and it turned the system on) so i decide one last time to put a disc and it worked. then when i get home from work i went to play a game and i was getting the clicking noie and the unreadable disc thing again.

so this is why all stores should be like costco because that is ridiculous for a system to break in 7 days

Its not abuse. Costco is selling a product which has a high defect rate. Their Return policy is a benefit of their paid membership.

look at it the other way. If costco doesnt want to deal with broken xbox 360s, then Costco shouldnt sell you a product which is known to have a high defect rate.

I was lucky enough to buy my launch day 360 from Costco. It ended up getting the RROD in it's 11th month. I called Microsoft, and they gave me instructions for sending it back to them, but the problem was that it was going to take about 4 weeks for the whole process. At the time, I was so addicted to playing my 360, that not having it for a 4 week period of time seemed like absolute torture. Since I bought it at Costco, I figured I should probably check with Costco before sending it back to Microsoft. I took it back to Costco, and they returned it with no problems at all. What a relief that was. They gave me a Costco card with the credit on it, and I went to where the 360's were and grabbed a new one, and bought it with the card they gave me.

After that experience, I would much rather buy all my gaming systems from Costco if possible. I wanted to buy my PS3 from Costco, but was unable to get one there during the launch frenzy. Instead I got mine from Gamestop. If I was smart, once Costco started getting PS3's in, I should have bought one there, and then sold my Gamestop one, even if it was at a loss, because I would have the peace of mind that my PS3 would be covered for a very long time.

My 360 has been acting up lately. I bought it from costco and already spoke to them, they just said to return it, get a refund (or maybe a credit) and buy another one. Now what I want to know is will costco be doing a price drop too? Right now the premium is $549 (CDN) I believe and the elite is $599 (CDN). I could be worng on the prices. The bundles are essentially the same only difference being the elite vs. the premium.

Any word on a costco price drop on their bundles?

I haven't seen the price drop take effect at Costco yet. I was just there last week trying to exchange my 360--but they had NO 360's in stock for me to exchange it with!

FYI, they give you a cash refund, which you use to buy another 360.

I wish they were a little quicker restocking and updating their website. But hey, the lifetime warranty is worth it. My 360 crapped out after only THREE months! What a POS.

They also sell elites I picked one up from Costco just a couple weeks ago.

When you guys return your 360s to Costco do you just lose all of your game saves?

My 360 that I purchased from Costco has been giving me disc read errors, but I've been reluctant to take it back because I don't want to lose all the work I've put into Forza 2.

When I had to return my original 360 to Costco I took off my original hard drive, opened the new box, and gave them the new hard drive to package with the return.

I talked with someone at the return desk about it first, just to be sure. If they didn't let me, I would have just bought the new one first, then swapped hard drives and then returned to old one.

Union0015

They wouldn't let me swap HDDs in-store when I tried to return mine last week. The returns guy said I would have to buy the new one, swap the HDDs, and return the old 360 with new HDD.

So the policy definitely varies from store to store.

My launch 360 died in April, just a few weeks before the Elite came out.

I packaged everything up that came with the bundle I got from Costco.com at launch but I withheld the hard drive. I didn't want to lose my game saves. I had it in the car in case they asked for it. The return desk specifically called a guy over the intercom to come inspect the box. He carefully went through all of the contents, even so far as to take the Xbox itself out of its plastic bag. He didn't ask where the hard drive was. He may not have noticed it wasn't attached to the unit. I don't know.

I did have to buy a memory unit to transfer all my game saves and such over to the new Xbox Elite once I scored one from Costco.com. I guess I could have requested a transfer cable from MS, but I didn't want to wait for it.

So I now have a spare 20GB hard drive.

I bought my Elite from Costco because the RRoDeath was already well known at the time. If mine bricks I will take it back to Costco instead of sending it to Microsoft guilt free. I pay $50 a year for Costco for that privelage and the Xbox shipping is slow and more $$$ compared to other big box stores. I don't see a difference between that or buying an extended warranty from Target, CC, BestBuy etc accept I know I will be treated good at Costco. You could even return a non-bricked Elite to Costco without feeling guilty. The rule is "100% satisfied". With microsoft charging $350 for a Premium with HDMI I am not real satisfied that the Elite now costs $100 more (instead of $80) and has one less exclusive feature. Of course I bought my elite a month ago, so yah, I am a little peeved.

When I returned my last elite the chick actually went through the trouble of removing the HD and looking at the serial #s and whatnot, as if she actually knew wtf she was doing. She finally stopped playing hard and gave me my $ back.

So in other words you stole a 20gb hard drive? If I was returning a working product that they were going to put back on the shelves for another consumer, then yes, I would see it as stealing. It was a broken console that I assume they are going to either send back to MS or write-off and trash.

For a while MS was including a 20 GB hard drive with refurbished consoles that they sent back to the original owners whether those owners originally owned a premium or a core. Granted that was MS decision, and in this case, it was mine. I had a lot of game saves on that hard drive (including over 160 hours in Oblivion alone), and I was not about to start all those games over and redownload all the arcade games and other things I paid for from the Marketplace. As it was, it took a while to copy everything over with a 512MB memory card (for which I paid BB $50, most of which I am sure made its way to MS), but it was a lot faster than replaying those games to get back to where I left off.

Having said that, yes, I did feel a little guilty/skeevy for keeping the hard drive, but with time, I feel a little better about the decision.

I was exchanging it for an Elite, which I was buying online.

I'll tell you guys what I'll do.

The next time I go to that Costco (hopefully this weekend, but perhaps next week), I'll take the 20GB HD with me, go to the customer service desk, explain what happened, and give it to them. It's not like I kept it to gain financially from it or pull one over on them. It's just sitting in the Elite box going unused.

I'll let you know what happens.

If that is the case, then I will report back here and give it to someone on this forum who owns a core without a hard drive. I'm sure there probably isn't anyone on here like that, but I'll make the offer here if they tell me to just keep it. If not here, then I'll find another forum with poorer people who could use a hard drive but can't afford one. :)

Ok, so I went to costco and figured out that I can get my refund and get a new system. Here's the kicker...I paid $559.99 (CDN) for a premium bundle in Oct. 2006. Now the premium bundle is $459.99 and the elite is $549.99, so I'll get $10 back and get the elite.

Here's my question. I don't have a memory card and they won't give me both drives. So, if I buy a memory card what exactly do I need to save? I'll be able to keep my gamertag, achievements, game saves, and microsoft points right? I'm assuming it's all on a server somewhere...

Use the memory card for games saves if that's important to you.

You can re-download your gamer profile that has you available points as well as re-download your live games.

Your Costco actually has the Elite bundle? I can't find the thing in the DC area for the life of me. They all have that stupid Live Unplugged bundle, which I absolutely do not need.

I'd actually just outright buy the Elite and request the transfer cable from MS. Transfer all your stuff over to the Elite, then return the original 360 to Costco. Sure, you only need your save games, but why should you have to spend $50 on a memory card? The transfer cable is free from MS.

I replaced my 360 at Costo yesterday. I had to buy a new unit, take it out to my car, swap the HDDs, then went in to exchange the old unit.

At all the stores in my area, the only bundle they have is the Live Arcade Unplugged bundle. That's what I ended up buying. Non-HDMI premium, built in September 2006.

Costco's bundles seem to have some really old systems. But most of the stores are running low on stock, so I think they're clearing out inventory for new Premium HDMI bundles.

I was at my local Costco yesterday and noticed that the only system they had was a PS2 bundle. No 360, PS3, DS, or PSP in stock. However, the last time I did see a bundle it was a Forza bundle instead of the unplugged arcade one.

I replaced my 360 at Costo yesterday. I had to buy a new unit, take it out to my car, swap the HDDs, then went in to exchange the old unit.

dipset, yeah, I would buy from Costco if i were you. sure, MS warranties it for 3 years, but if you buy at Costco, and it breaks down, simply bring it in, get a new one the same day. I think that has plenty of added value. I bought mine at best buy, plus the $50 replacement, so yeah, if you can get the 360 plus no replacement plan, and get the same service....absolutely, definately buy at costoc.

I'll just throw this out there. I bought my 360 from Gamestop/EBgames and decided to get their 1 year no questions asked warranty for $40. That was 11 months ago and on Tuesday I am going to go pick up a new system (w/ hdmi), Bioshock and a renewed warranty. I figure $40 a year for a brand new console every 11-12 months isn't a bad deal, heck I'd probably end up buying a new controller from being used so much so I'm actually saving $10...:p

Also, I talked to the manager and he recommended I keep my current hdd to avoid any hassle, I thought that was pretty cool of him.

Probably not as financially efficient as buying from costco but this way I get to inspect the new console (for manf. date, drive type and whatnot) before they give it to me. :)

Any guesses would be appreciated.

I think it would be a total crapshoot. My guess would be that they're trying to clear out the old stuff, but considering they haven't had one available online in 3+ weeks makes me wonder. If anyone pulls the trigger post the details!

I was just at Costco and they didn't have any consoles in stock. I asked one of the customer service people if there were any plans to bring in 360s in the near future and he said no. He had been asked a few times about this because they haven't had any for quite a while. Not sure what's going on - for the longest time they always had them in stock.

I walked over to Best Buy after that and they had 3 elites on the shelf, all with a lot number of 0724. Those are the first Elites I've ever seen in that store. Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know!

I've been following the thread, and I understand what you're saying (although you don't have to be condescending). I guess my biggest question is why can you now get them online but they aren't available in the store? And the guy at the store told me they had no current plans to stock them. If they're trying to put the new MB (premiums) into circulation, that's fine, but unless they're waiting for the Falcon on the Elite what's the point? I just thought it was strange that they had no plans to even stock the 360 at this point.

Lot num 0724 or higher is when it was made 07=2004 and 24 is the 24th week of the year, if I remember correctly that's the second week in june, it also means that it has the additional heatsink so it doesn't get so hot.

I wasn't being condescending, but just pointing out how many people in this thread are using Costco as a free extended warrenty & return program. If Costco stops stocking the 360 in the store then the number of returns will plummet. If you bring in your 360 for a return then you will get your money back and you are left with ordering it online or buying somewhere else. I doubt they make enough money on the bundles to justify the high return rates.

If they are just clearing stock for the new 360s then that would be great. I sure wasn't interested in buying a Costco 360 with the Unplugged Arcade bundle that had been sitting in the warehouse for ages.

My guess is that they don't carry the same products in all of their distribution centers, so they have to ship from where they actually carry the inventory.

Here's the link from my earlier post:
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...460&lang=en-US

Based on the Lot#, what shipped is supposed to include the new heat sink.
Consensus on the various boards say that any lot# greater than 0724 will include the new heatsink. The Elites apparently all use the Hitachi DVD drives (some report that the later Lots have quieter versions of it) while the new premiums are supposed to be using the benq drives (considered better than the older Hitachi). I've also read that the DC brushless fans I mentioned earlier are indeed the newest fans they are now using. Some say they aren't as quiet as the previous limited use fan they had before, but quieter than the launch day fans.

Hope that helps.

I was going to get a Costco bundle and still might, but there is a $100 price difference after shipping and tax for me compared to Amazon. Considering I dont need 2 controllers and a play and charge kit is $15-20 (depending if you want white or black) I could save $80 by going the Amazon route after getting the elite and play and charge kit. Of course the big reason to get it at Costco is the return policy....decisions....decisions

I just got back from my local costco in S. Cal. The employee I spoke to told me that the new 360 Elite bundles will be on the floor within the next week. He mentioned seeing them in the back, but not having a pallet or something ready for them to go on sale. He also mentioned they will include some sort of Halo 3 "card".

Unfortunately, I was looking for a premium bundle to replace my 360 (RROD on Sunday) that I purchased from Costco last year. Looks like I might have to go through the repair center...

Also, I noticed Costco.com may have a typo regarding their "Madden 08 Pro" bundle. It is priced like a premium and picture shows a white console, but the description lists it as an Elite.

My Costco has the new Premium bundles (a Premium + 2nd controller + play and charge kit IIRC) for $399. I see they're Zephyr's so they should have HDMI but the lot # has a white sticker over it so without buying one I don't know that info (actually it's the sticker over the UPC code of the 360's box so they can't scan that by accident instead of the bundle's UPC code, but it covers the lot # as well ;)). I just got one of those bundles Sunday. It has HDMI and the BenQ drive. IIRC the manufacture date was July 27, 2007. The DVD drive seems quieter, but I'm not sure about the fan noise. The fan noise almost seems louder than my last unit which was an April 2006 unit, but I can't say for sure since the old DVD drive was so loud.

If CostCo's policy is to honor a 10 year old return, I can't really blame someone for taking advantage of it.

Can you give us a bit more detail on the "super quiet" statement? Super quiet while idling - super quiet while playing a dvd game - or both? I went out and found an Elite with the BenQ drive - but honestly - it's not significantly quieter than my old 360.

Just got back from my local costco and they had the H3 with extra controller, the game H3, and a game guide. I looked at the units in a plastic case and noticed a white sticker over the right side of the data sticker where the lot number and date made is printed. Normally costco does cover over retail data sticker, but this was odd, because it only covered the lot and made date. This seems to indicate MS may have old 90 components and MS no longer wants the consumer to know the lot numbers. From other posts/sites lot 734 might have the 65 chip and a new heatsink w/o copper. I could not read under the white sticker so did not know what lot numbers they were.

Sorry about that. The Elite sits about 10 ft away from me when I'm playing, and I only hear it when a game is loading - when it's accessing the DVD drive. To be honest, it is (noticeably) load, but it doesn't access the DVD drive that much at all, so I don't mind it. If it sounded like that all the time, that would be a different story.

My 360 red ringed. I was thinking about buying a second 360 so I might as well buy it from Costco. Does anyone know if they are giving out the forza/marvel bundles yet? If not I might just go to Gamestop instead since the new ones should have Falcon inside which will hopefully not red ring.

If CostCo's policy is to honor a 10 year old return, I can't really blame someone for taking advantage of it.

I totally agree with this statement...I know it seems rediculous to return it 10 years later but where does it say in Costco's policy that you can't?

Anyone know if Costco carries the HD DVD add on? specifically in Canada? I haven't made a trip out to the store for a while and can't remember if I saw it there or not...

I've never seen the HD add-on at my local Costco (never have seen an Elite either - or for that matter a HD-DVD player of any kind - although the Halo 3 bundle just showed up recently).

Went to Costco today. They had the premium and elite bundles, as well as the halo edition now (not in a bundle though), but no hd dvd add on...oh well...

Got one this last weekend in the Sacramento area. Forza/Marvel bundle with second wireless controller and Play & Charge kit for $400. Although the box was older (had the Halo 3 coming in 2007 on the back), the unit was manufactured in August 2007 and has HDMI.

So my wife is finally letting me buy an elite for my birthday, but I can't find any instores (in the Bay Area). I saw a bunch of them in B&M last month, but don't see any in the costco's now.

So now I'm playing the waiting game. I'd really like to purchase the Elite at costco, due to the great return policy there. I know that they're releasing a "holiday bundle" with that Forenza 2 and Marvel Alliance games along with the elite at the same price, so just waiting for Costco to stock that.

I'll try to keep everyone updated to if I find one, but if you do happen to see the Elite Holiday Bundle trickle online or in the B&M store, please do tell the location. =)

Hrm, as an update, it looks like the Elite Xbox Holiday Bundle releases on Oct. 26th in Canada. The only retailer that I've been able to find a pre-order from in the US is Buy.com, and it looks like as of today, they're shipping it.

I'll be checking at Costco these next few days...

Does anybody know when costco is going to get the xbox 360 bundles with falcon chipset?

From what I've read on some message boards, people have had luck with the current "Go Pro" bundle with the two games. Costco purposely hides the Lot number, but from several reports (of Costco bought systems), people have got higher than Lot 734 (that's when they switched over the manufacturing).

Costco now has the "Go PRO/big" [20GB] Holiday Bundle on it's site. Personally, I'm waiting for the Elite Holiday Bundle.

On another note, I was just at my local Costco to pick-up Time Shift (TS), for my girlfriend (did not re-buy a system yet), and they didn't even carry it. So I went to Game Stop. I'm suprised. It seems like a big title.

Is the holiday bundle with Forza 2 and Marvel the HDMI version? I was looking them over tonight and did not see and indications of the version. They did say Zephyr on the tag though.

I picked up the holiday pro set at costco two weeks ago and it is the hdmi version. The two games came in one dual dvd case, along with the extra controller and play/charge kit.

So far I'm happy with it, I'm looking for the link again to check which dvd drive I have, but I was able to do the manual hack on the component cable and I'm running HDMI out for video, optical to my receiver for sound and it's working fine.

I put in a heavy weekend of Halo 1, first time playing through for me and no problems... started up Halo 2 and will continue on.

thanks. I should have picked one up but I was not sure and I was half hoping I could get an Elite online since I paid almost $500 for the one I returned. Of course, no luck.

As reported by 'iamthehunter' on 11/7/07, in the 'Free Halo 3 with 360 console purchase' thread,

"finally showed up at n**egg and costco...

Xbox 360™ Halo™ 3 Elite Holiday Bundle Includes Forza and Marvel

say's that it comes "bundled" with the Halo 3 game..."

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=940235&highlight=costco+holiday+bundle

Costco finally just go them. I just bot back from my local Costco and called another one, and they said its only an online item and that they probably won't carry it at their specific warehouse. The warehouse closest to me said they never carried the Elite which is probably right. I'm going to give them to like, Monday. If the warehouse does not get them in, then I'll just order one online. Costco's return policy rocks [I bought my 80GB PS3 there].

God forbid (seriously) I get a non Falcon model or what not, I'll just hold on to enjoy it. And if should RROD on me, I'll just swap it out from them. And if the second one does the same thing, I'll PROBABLY send it to MS for repair (BUT not until I ask for your guys great 360 knowledge first). Thanks for listening.

COD4 RUMBLE!, here I come (LOL).

Last week I spotted team FDOU premium bundles at my Costco..of course the lot no is covered...GGRRRR

No Premium bundles... but this does seem like the best deal out there for an additional controller, charge kit, free games, etc.

Just want to know if they have the Falcons!!!

I wanted to jump on the Elite Halo 3 Bundle too...I should have before going to sleep two nights ago, but my wife is out of town and those decisions have to go through her. =P I'm sure she wouldnt' have liked it if I bought that and didn't return the premium from costco either... =P
