Ok, well, my TV(A Sony WEGA, maybe 5 or so years old) isn't exactly crappy, but it doesn't do anything better than 480i over component(at least this is what I think, since when I set my wii to 480p, the screen gets strange lines all over it, and becomes unusable). So, my criteria is that the player outputs 480i over component, that the output looks good, and that the player will last a long time. My last rjtech player(a small portable one) failed within a year after buying it. I'd like something that will last a good 3-4 years. Looking at newegg, most players feature upscaling and HDMI outputs, both things that I don't want/need, as I don't have an HDTV. I'd preferably like something that's for sale on newegg, but I'll consider other things..
Thanks for the advice!
Mike

Looking around, the Samsung DVD-1080p7 supports 480i out on component, as well as 1080p via HDMI(for the future). Is this a good player to get? It's $90 on newegg.

Can the DVP-NS77H output 480i over component?
Can the DVP-NS77H output 480i over component?Download the manual and see page 19. You have a Progressive button on front of player that allows you to have either Progressive or Interlace output. The normal (interlace) mode is used when your TV does not accept progressive signals. Most places like Target, CC, or BB have a return policy so no risk.
If you don't anticipate getting a hi-def TV, you could also get a few models from the major brands (Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, etc.) that are a step down from the HDMI players. Some I've even seen have a physical switch to turn off progressive scan. Might save you a few dollars if you're not interested in the bit of futureproofing the upscalers give you.

Well, I plan to get a high def TV eventually, probably in the next 2-4 years, so I guess I might as well plop down the $50 for an upscaler.
