ResOGlas 07-30-07, 02:03 AM For me:
1st HD DVD was Sleepy Hollow in August 2006
1st Blu-Ray was The Devil's Rejects in February 2007
I remember that feeling when I bought that first HD DVD, very fun. :)

cybereality 07-30-07, 03:07 AM The Matrix Trilogy (but amazon threw in Serenity for free).
David Scott 07-30-07, 03:12 AM Serenity
and still a favorite.
studiotan 07-30-07, 03:21 AM First movie was Aeon Flux because it seemed to have some of the best PQ reviews at the time I bought my player. I was ready to return my HD-A1 if HD didn't wow me enough. Needless to say I'm now addicted :D
TheLion 07-30-07, 06:17 AM HD-DVD: Last Samurai, Million Dollar Baby, Phantom of the Opera and Serenity right when they (and HD-DVD as a format for that matter) came out.

Wow, how does one person have so many firsts. :p
I'm presumably jealous at the amount of other firsts you've had. :D
the departed hd dvd combo.
MrPorterhouse 07-30-07, 07:51 AM Kingdom of Heaven on Blu-ray.
BZiggyZ 07-30-07, 08:03 AM Matrix Trilogy w/ Amazon deal (Batman Begins and King Kong were my freebies).
King Kong was the 1st HD-DVD I got (free with drive), still the only one I own at the moment and not watched it yet!
The 1st Blu-ray I bought was MI:III, I'll only buy region free Blu-ray films so I can import from the US as they are far to expensive in the UK
LiquidX 07-30-07, 08:14 AM The first one I got was King Kong since it came bundled with the add on, but the first one I actually bought was World Trade Center for personal reasons.
dad1153 07-30-07, 09:06 AM Before I got my HD-DVD add-on and HDTV I bought Slither on HD-DVD combo since I figured I was going to eventually get it on HD-DVD. Since all the B&M stores were selling it for $35-40 this also became my first online purchase ever outside of eBay (got it for $27.99 at Target + $2.50 shipping).
No Blu-ray for me, yet. Call me when the players sell for HD-DVD's entry-level price and have fully-implemented 1.1 OS and onboard memory specs.
Jiffylush 07-30-07, 09:11 AM Ice Age the Meltdown on BD
HiddenDepth 07-30-07, 09:16 AM Identity Blu-ray

Ronin_R6 07-30-07, 10:28 AM Planet Earth - HD-DVD
donricouga 07-30-07, 10:32 AM Technically it was Talladega nights that came with my ps3 but separate purchase my first was The Last Samurai. Love that movie :)
Batman Begins - HD DVD
Casino Royale - Blu-Ray
spacejamz 07-30-07, 11:09 AM from my Amazon order history page...IIRC, I got both for $32 shipped...
Order Date: June 21, 2006
Items:

1 of: The Terminator [Blu-ray]
Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC
I got a launch day PS3 about 5 months later...:)
I have already mailed my 5thE copy for the remastered version...hopefully it gets here soon...
alpha21 07-30-07, 11:10 AM I ordered Serenity, Batman Begins, Troy, Training Day, and Lucky # Slevin from amazon, so technically there was no first purchased.
With that said, the reason I bought an HD-DVD player in the first place was so that I could finally own Serenity (wouldn't get the SD, because I knew eventually I was getting it in HD)
SuperGrafx 07-30-07, 12:25 PM Grand Prix (HD-DVD)
First BD: Unforgiven
First HD DVD: Batman Begins
DragonStar 07-30-07, 12:51 PM One Last Thing - BD
mikejonas 07-30-07, 01:25 PM HD-DVD: Serenity (Browncoats represent!) and Phantom of the Opera
Blu-Ray: Talladega Nights (PS3 pack-in) and House of Flying Daggers...yeah, you know I was disappointed with those.
QWK SVT 07-30-07, 01:28 PM 1st HD DVD was Batman Begins in December 2006 *
1st Blu-Ray was Casino Royale in March 2007 **
* Not including the copy of King Kong included with the 360 addon
** Technically, I ordered Transporter 1 & 2, Fantastic Four, The Big Hit, XXX, Alien vs Predator, Planet of the Apes & X-Men 3 before buying CR in-store, but physically had CR in my hands first.
chad473 07-30-07, 01:32 PM Batman Begins
UxiSXRD 07-30-07, 01:47 PM First?
King Kong came with my 360 add-on and I bought MI3, as well.
A couple months later, I purchased XMen3, Black Hawk Down, and Kingdom of Heaven with my PS3.
theflux 07-30-07, 01:50 PM Casino Royale BD
ashley76 07-30-07, 01:53 PM Constantine. Got it the day I got my HD-A1 back sometime in 2006, I think November.
kiddsilk69 07-30-07, 01:55 PM Ah that God awful 5th Element disk. That and the Sammy were more then enough to make the switch to HD-DVD. First HD-DVD.... I dont know got about 7 that first time
bboisvert 07-30-07, 01:58 PM Serenity. Still one of the best discs I own, both in terms of sound/picture and also movie rewatchablity.
dakota81 07-30-07, 01:59 PM Stranger than Fiction
Rusty James 07-30-07, 02:04 PM The Last Samurai (HD)
Black Hawk Down (Blu-ray)
ElectricMonk 07-30-07, 02:21 PM Planet Earth on Blu-ray, and to be honest it was so amazing that everything since has been a bit of a letdown. I remember saying "wow" at least every ten minutes.
Buckeye911 07-30-07, 02:31 PM HD DVD -- Lucky # Slevin. I couldn't wait to see Lucy Liu in high def! :)
jbecvar 07-30-07, 02:39 PM Got the add-on first, so I got King Kong with that, still the only disc out of approx. 100 hi def that I haven't watched. First real purchase was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas soon after. First blu ray was Prestige, actually picked up the PS3 just to have that movie.
punditguy 07-30-07, 02:46 PM Serenity, and it's a good thing. My wife had looked at me askance about spending so much on a movie player, until she walked in on me watching it and actually exclaimed, "Wow."
Missions 07-30-07, 02:48 PM Planet Earth on Blu-Ray.
Same here.
WiFi-Spy 07-30-07, 03:59 PM Phantom of the opera and The Last Samurai on 4-16-06
HD-DVD: Bourne Supremacy and Serenity
Blu-Ray: Casino Royale, The Prestige and PoTC: Curse of the Black Pearl
Snickering Hound 07-30-07, 04:35 PM Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire from xploited.
It actually arrived a couple days before my A2 did last December.
Serenity and Chronicles of Riddick
I bought Blackhawk Down on BD
and King Kong on HD DVD.
To be quite honest, BHD simply made my jaw drop, and King Kong made my eyelids drop lol...
KK is a great looking movie, but my God it was boring.
Technically it would have been King Kong, with the purchase of my add-on, but the ones I directly purchased were Superman Returns and Batman Begins. On BluRay it would have been Terminator 2 and boy was I disappointed.
The Last Samurai and Phantom of the Opera - the only disks on the shelf when the first three players came off the Saturday delivery FedEx truck back in April, 2006. I bought the first of the three and those two disks.
turansformer 07-30-07, 05:58 PM Troy. While the movie wasn't the best war flick, it was one of the first action titles with a TrueHD track.
The Last Samurai and Phantom of the Opera - the only disks on the shelf when the first three players came off the Saturday delivery FedEx truck back in April, 2006. I bought the first of the three and those two disks.
Around that time of year last year, I can remember seeing The Last Samurai on the shelf in a funny sized red box and wondering what it even was...
Now over a year later, I'm gung ho on both formats. Good times..
Ergoguy34 07-30-07, 06:00 PM The PUNISHER on BD, I still watch weekly..
jasonstiller 07-30-07, 06:34 PM F&F Tokyo Drift on HDDVD
Icemage 07-30-07, 07:13 PM Ice Age 2 on Blu-ray.
I wanted a family-friendly flick that could show some off what HD could do on a 1080p set to placate family members who thought I had completely lost my mind for investing in a new HDTV and a PS3.
atagert 07-30-07, 08:12 PM U-571
There is probably a thread somewhere from last summer that discusses which should be the first.
Adam
wildfire99 07-30-07, 09:21 PM House of Flying Compression Artifacts (Daggers)...
I watched this and thought that HD was a complete and total waste until I came here to verify... :)
The audio was sure nice though! I then rented "Goodnight, and Good Luck" which was certainly sharp, but not much in the way of color. It was a painful first week.
Underworld Evolution on Blu-ray
Chronicles of Riddick on HD-DVD
Both bought for use as demo/audition discs before I even owned a player. When I got these, most home theater shops in Japan still had few movie discs on either format. The ones they did have weren't movies that told me what I needed to know anyway. Most vendors used special demo material provided by manufacturers, but I wanted to test the players using real world software so I brought my own.
I still do this now when checking out 1080p projectors, which freaks some people out. Especially when they're great-looking discs like The Prestige, Rocky Balboa or Apocalypto which weren't even in Japanese theaters yet when the U.S. Blu-ray versions came out.
Drewbert 07-30-07, 09:59 PM HD- Bourne Supremecy
BD- Casino Royale
Most suprised- lucky number slevin. LOVED that movie!
tormond 07-30-07, 10:48 PM HD DVD I don't remember but I think it was Serenity
BD I am pretty sure it was a used copy of Fifth Element (that I still need to send in to get a watchable disc)
SDouglas 07-30-07, 11:05 PM HD DVD: Serenity and Phantom of the Opera along with my HD-D1 in April 2006. All three purchased from Wal-mart B&M.
Blu-ray: Terminator sometime in June 2006. I was buying two HD DVDs and needed a third high definition disc to join the 10% discount promotion they had started. Terminator was less than $11 after discount as I recall.
SCD
Serinity, riddick and pitch black all the same recipt as the A1.
First import was La haine and rambo
mikejonas 07-31-07, 01:01 AM Serenity seems to be the most popular starter title for those of us who jumped in early. I knew I posted my responses to this thread before, but I just wanted to write about that simply AWESOME feeling I got when I popped in that disk the very first time and the Universal logo and fanfare came on...PUPUPUUUM PUUUM, PUPUPUPUPUUUUUUM...and then the logo turns into the shot of Earth...man. I guess that while I'm a big Firefly fan, part of the reason that Serenity's my most rewatched HD-DVD is because it brings back that feeling again.
In fact, maybe I'll pop it in again right now...
LiquidX 07-31-07, 01:38 AM KK is a great looking movie, but my God it was boring.
I thought that also. I seemed to drag on certain parts more than it should have. But for the eye candy, I stomached it.
eapleitez 07-31-07, 01:48 AM Land of the Dead Combo HD, before I had a player (a way to get the wife on board).
theforce8686 07-31-07, 01:53 AM Mine was Serenity. It is such a bad movie but it looked nice. It was a blind buy for me. I sold it already.
vikingfan 07-31-07, 02:14 AM Unforgiven (EASTWOOD) on BD. The difference between HD and SD is readily apparent in a movie with so many night and dark interior scenes, and the outdoor scenes in daylight are really breathtaking. Kudos to WB for an outstanding transfer.
valkyrie 07-31-07, 09:46 AM Serenity. The whole reason I chose HD-DVD.
First HD DVD: Goodfellas
First Blu-ray: Tears of the Sun
First import: Children of Men UK HD DVD (I don't buy combos and the UK version is a non-combo).
FatiusJeebs 07-31-07, 12:56 PM I'm gonna have to say Constantine. My wife surprised me with Fear and Loathing.
ClevelandRob 07-31-07, 01:46 PM 300 (Blu-ray) ...today?
properbostonian 07-31-07, 02:40 PM 1st - King Kong HD-DVD (including with the 360 AO).

nelsona 07-31-07, 07:10 PM My first HD DVD I purchased was going to be Batman Begins, but my friend bought it for me as a present, so instead I got Smokin' Aces
Topweasel 07-31-07, 07:23 PM HD-DVD The Last Samurai
BD -None purchased (or will be)
JustBKaz 07-31-07, 07:37 PM HD-DVD: Batman Begins, Serenity & Corpse Bride (returned the player 1 month later and still have these on my shelf)
Blu-Ray: Xmen 3 & Blackhawk Down
arctictropical 08-01-07, 03:13 PM Serenity on HD-DVD
Batman Begins and Serenity - Dec. 2006
Awesome HD DVDs.
First was Behind Enemy Lines and Black Hawk Down. Then the next day I bought Casino Royale.
just recently got 300.
The Last Samurai, Forbidden Planet, The Searchers and Batman Begins.
300. Purchased it with my PS3. Just hooked up the PS3 yesterday and projected my first BD image!
ShinKen 08-09-07, 01:41 PM HD DVD - Chronicles of Riddick
Blu-Ray - Silent Hill
djsmokyc 08-09-07, 01:59 PM For HD DVD, my first purchase was Planet Earth (pre-order), but The Departed was the disc I played.
For Blu-Ray, I think I put in Layer Cake first. Bought that and the two POTC movies at the same time.
We Were Soldiers on HD DVD
Batman Begins, before I had even bought a player actually.
As for Blu-Ray, well I haven't seen the need.....yet........................
allargon 08-09-07, 04:10 PM "Planet Earth" -- the BBC version on HD-DVD
No Blu until profile 1.1 player prices come down below $300.
