I already have an XBox Live 360 Gold account. If I buy an original XBox Live 12 month card, will that card work to extend my subscription?

I heard it works.

On a somewhat related note, I'm noticing that some stores still sell some Xbox Live boxed subscription sets (with the headset, etc bundled in) that have a June 31, 2007 expiration date on the subscription code. Do these cards really expire, or do stores not realize that they're selling expired goods?

Absolutely. I picked up an original Xbox live 12 month card at Target on Clearance pretty cheap maybe 2 months ago and used it to renew w/no problems whatsoever.

I saved like $20 or $30 just because of the old school packaging...In hindsight, I wish I would've cleaned out their supply.

Yeah, Live is the same on the Xbox, 360, and the PC. It's all one subscription.

June 31? So it never expires? Cool!

Not REALLY.

It was November 2006 and Live my subscription was nearly up. The system refused to accept a 360-related subscription card to renew a plain Xbox account. You had to use that card via a 360, and 'migrate' your existing account.

Several hours on hold, and a few different native-English speaking CSRs left me with either a $50 360 card I couldn't use or going out and getting a 360. Up until then I was OK with just a Xbox but decided the upgrade wouldn't hurt if I delayed the payments until tax return time. Right after that, I realized the original Xbox was unsupported anyway and moving on was the best way to go.

So, all cards are good with a 360, but no 360 cards are good with Xbox Prime...

I understand that you can use a 360 Live Gold card on the xbox web site and them migrate it back to your original XBox. You don't have to use it on a 360.

Exactly, you can just activate any code for Live at www.xbox.com.

Well, if this extended back to 11/2006 then several CSRs had no clue that it was possible...
