View Full Version : Is there a list of Blockbuster locations that rent HD DVD B & M Stores?

If this listing exists than I am terrible at searching and I apologize. I am a member of Blockbuster Direct Access, and do get HD DVD's on line, but now that the Blockbuster by me just got physical Blu Rays in the store, it just pissed me off I guess. Knowing with BD I could have just pulled it off the shelf.

I live in the Chicago suburbs, so I am assuming that at least one of the 200+ Blockbusters that rent HD DVD in their stores is in the Chicago area.

Any help or a link would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

I live in the Chicago land area as well and from what I know there is no Blockbuster NEAR me that carries HD DVD in store. I recently found out that some Hollywood video stores do carry them and I know there are a couple in the area. Try them out and see where you get. As for me I buy EVERY single HD DVD I would like to see so I haven't done much searching as far as renting goes. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am in the Lake County Area, but I will post back here if I find anything out. I will try Hollywood though, there is one near my home. I get them on line in like 2 days, but I would still like the feeling of physically seeing them on the shelves.

On a much happier note, I just got 300 delivered at work today, cannot wait to pop that in tonight!

Thanks again.

Doug

I wish there was. While I haven't called every store in my area, I think I called about 8 stores. All of them were clueless about anything in high-def and no one could tell me if they knew if any Blockbusters in my state happen to be any of those 250 stores.

I'm not sure that thread is updated anymore. I posted an update for a location. Let's see if it gets updated now. ;)

The Blockbusters in Layton, Utah don't carry them, but I was told that the one in Clinton, UT does. I haven't been there to check selection. It's a 40 minute round trip for me.

I go to the Hollywood Video in Layton to rent HD DVDs. They only have about twenty, but they do get a few new releases. For example, they just got in Bourne Identity and Host and they will be getting 300 and Shooter.

There is an easier way. I got this response from Blockbuster on how to find stores that rent HD DVD.

The email is below but the short answer is, got to the www.blockbuster.com and pick out an HD DVD movie, for instance Batman Begins. Then click on "Check for Rental" (NOT add to queue). Then do a store locator and it will tell you which stores near you have that item in stock and thus probably stock HD DVD.

Unfortunately their Blu-ray bias is very apparent with how easy it is to see if a store carries Blu-ray. All you have to do is a simple store locator based on your zip and one of the columns has a big Blu-ray symbol on it if the store carries Blu-ray.

Thanks for contacting BLOCKBUSTER Online Customer Care.

I appreciate you taking the time to write us about this. Our "Check for Rental" feature allows you to verify if a specific movie or game title is carried at a store near you. Using this function is very easy and convenient. You may access the HD DVDs category in our website, click on the box art/picture for any DVD, simply click on the blue "Check for Rental" link to the right of the movie description. If you're logged in, we will automatically enter your address for you so all you have to do is click on the "Find Stores" button. We'll let you know which stores (if any) in your area carry the game or movie you want, it's that easy! Please keep in mind that you may have to click on the "All Editions" tab to find the "Check for Rental" link. Not all of our online DVDs have this link because the stores may not carry the same versions as we do.

This will not work as the check for a rental will give you the status of the regular DVD even if you enter a search for a BR or HD DVD disc. I checked this a while back and entered a search for a BR disc and it showed available at all my local Blockbusters even though none of them carry BR discs yet. Blockbuster customer service as far as online questions is usually useless.

The BB by me doesn't carry HD DVD or BD...and they say they never will! :( Mokena IL

At the beginning of DVD I had a BB employee tell me they would never carry the new format which at best--according to him--would be limited in appeal like laser disks. Companies such as BB can rethink their stances when they finally realize that they are losing money.

Oddly enough, my Blockbuster started carrying BD titles a month or two ago. I say oddly enough, because I live in a town with a population of about 25,000 that is not particularly the home theater-type. The closest Best Buy is 15 miles away, and the closest CC is 30 miles away, with no specialty stores in town either. Most folks here are obviously not on the cutting edge.

Two whole racks (I'm guessing 40-50 releases) are out in the store and I have never seen more than 2 or 3 titles out at a time...and I'm there quite a bit. I have also noticed that they are typically movies aimed at a younger crowd, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a small group of PS3 owners renting. I have no facts to support that, but it's my suspicion.

I can't help but wonder what the HD DVD rentals would be like if they actually carried them. I have not picked up a player yet, but I know that I could probably have 2 or 3 out at a time, by myself, when I do. Oh well...

I'm also in the chicagoland area, western burbs. The nearest BB to me, LaGrange & Ogden, does not carry HDDVD's. Anyone find out which do?

They never think things through -- I mean, the 2 BB near me both have huge VHS sections. I email them from time to time to give them a hard time about HD DVD since I've now rented all of the movies they stock.

Funny you should ask this as I was in a Blockbuster on Tuesday and asked if they were going to carry HD-DVD movies and they said they were exclusively Blu-Ray right now. But they do rent them online(Which is the plan I am on). I am sure Blockbuster has some back door deal with Sony.

Wheaton store (http://www.blockbuster.com/action/storelocator/storeDetailMap?locationId=17253) carries HD-DVDs. They have 2 sections of Blu-ray and one section (aboout 40) HD-DVDs.

Can you get the SD DVD OAR versions at BB yet?
Why anyone bothers with these morons is a mystery.
