I logged on for the same reason. Can anybody point to a site to download the drivers to make my pc recognize this box? Thanks in advance.

Here's the link to SA's site for the 8000
http://www.scientificatlanta.com/products/consumers/new_explorer8000.htm

Cable STBs often have 'blank' labeled but unused outlets. The 8000 user manual shows this box only has composite video outputs, not firewire suitable for computers. With an 8000HD model, the firewire output might be active, depending on your cable company. The HD recorders forum here has threads about 8000-series digital video recorders. If the 8000HD model is involved, it's long outdated, replaced by the 8300HD, which cured some of the 8000HD's faults. See the home theater PC section, too. -- John
