I have a five year old pioneer 433cmx and Im still trying things out.Just got an oppo970 and using component cables should i send 480i to plasma or 480p.If I send 480i I get to engage the pure cinema mode on plasma that only works with 480i signal. Its suppose to smooth out pq and Ive always seen lots of jitter from my old panny xp50 player set to 480p. thanks Matt

That needs to be something that you test for your personal preference...if your tv has the better scaler/processor then 480i and if not then let the Oppo do it's thing. You'll likely notice at least a slight difference one way or the other..

Try both, but 480p is probably better given the right test cases. Pure Cinema is just the name they give their deinterlacer and 4-5 years ago it wasn't very good compared to today's standards. The jitter you saw may have been the plasma trying to engage Pure Cinema mode when you sent it 480p. If you do send 480p, make sure Pure Cinema stays off. If you still see jitter at 480p it's not an Oppo 970 issue.

Thanks, pure cinema on the pioneer is only allowed through 480i and not even listed in options for 480p.Maybe it stays on even if its not in options.I will shut it off in 480i option and try playback in 480p.Last night the difference between both was very slight with small edge towards the 480i but it might have been my imagination.
