What's the worst selling HDM title? It's be interesting to know because it could surprise people. I remember seeing somewhere that The Matador on HD DVD sold about 500 copies.

Timothy Ramzyk 08-01-07, 02:49 AM I thought the Steve McQueen action/thriller BULLET sold well under a 1000 initially. Too bad, I've heard it's quite good, just not my cup. R Miyashiro 08-01-07, 04:36 AM Someone here was saying FREEDOM 1 only sold like 100 units, I'm not so sure though. I don't know how they will be able to sell the other volumes. At $40 for 20 minutes this was a tough buy for me, and I don't know if I'll buy the others despite being an anime fan. I'd rather buy a feature length film from Bandai Visual for $80 than a half hour OVA for $40. Freedom volume 1 is currently #21,333 in DVD at amazon. MovieSwede 08-01-07, 04:39 AM Yes price is a very important factor. If you really want a movie you can oay some for it, but if you think its just an OK movie you will only buy it for a fair price HD or not. Lee Stewart 08-01-07, 07:30 AM Here is the link to that Neilsen report that Sony gave us access to back in April. From my first look it appears Comando on BD is the winner - sold 1 copy http://www.thedigitalbits.com/files/sonyhdreport031807.zip Keep in mind there is 2006 and 2007 data there Kid Banana 08-01-07, 07:32 AM I thought the Steve McQueen action/thriller BULLET sold well under a 1000 initially. Soon, Warner will put catalogue titles in discount offers and this will drive their sales up. BioSehnsucht 08-01-07, 07:33 AM I might buy the other Freedom releases because anime in HD is still somewhat novel... but if they dumped 100 titles on the market at that price/length I probably wouldn't buy any of them. Commando only sold one copy for that timeframe? Hell if it was on HD DVD I'd buy it. Commando is classic action flic :D R Miyashiro 08-01-07, 07:58 AM I thought the Steve McQueen action/thriller BULLET sold well under a 1000 initially. I guess they are bigger McQueen fans in Japan or something. Lee Stewart 08-01-07, 08:01 AM I recall it being in the top ten on amazon.co.jp. There is a 90 minute Doc. on film editing (Bullitt won the award that year) . . in HD that shows tons of movie clips in OAR and in HD . . .Lawrence of Arabia for instance is one. Like getting 2 movies for the price of one. eskimo2176 08-01-07, 08:09 AM Here is the link to that Neilsen report that Sony gave us access to back in April. There are a few copies out in the wild though... seen one on Ebay a couple of weeks back. gtgray 08-01-07, 02:50 PM I don't know how they will be able to sell the other volumes. I almost bought this one this weekedn at Fry's.. but at 30 bucks and all the new releases coming on HD DVD I did not make it to the register with it. I remember seeing somewhere that The Matador on HD DVD sold about 500 copies. I blindly rented Matador knowing zero about the movie, and found it to be pretty good. I enjoy little surprises like that. |
