So I've also asked in the projector forum but no responses yet. I have read here that it depends on your unit if you really need an upconvert player or not. I do watch a ton of movies, about 6 a week, so want good picture quality. I am looking at the AX100U and need to replace my broken Toshiba player anyway- do I go for upconvert or no? Anyone running the AX100U, and if so do you upconvert or not?

I have not tried a good upconvert player, but the Oppo 970 that came free with it looks best at 480I over HDMI w/ the Projector doing the rest. The sharpness test screens and smoothness of the picture were improved.
