OK,

So I've Narrowed my choice to 4 TVs...

Toshiba 52LX177 (52" LCD, 1080P)
Panasonic 58PZ750U (58" Plasma, 1080P)
Pioneer PDP-5080HD (50" Plasma, 720P)
Pioneer PDP-5010FD (50" Plasma, 1080P)

These TV's are all similarly prices except for the 5080, which is a good bit cheaper, but only 720P.

--------TV---------l
....................... l
..................... c.].w
..................... o.].i
......................u.].n
......................c.].d
......................h.].o
.........................].w
......couch(11')...l
-_________-----
window

So my room is like this, which is why I was focusing on LCD's. I figure the glare would be too much to bare. However, When I went TV shopping, I thought the motion blur was terrible (especially on an older sony) I didn't look too much at other LCDs after I saw how bad they looked compared to plasma. Perhaps I should have paid closer attn as the new models might be better.

Anyway, at 11 feet and below I figure I would benefit from 1080P, especially the people sitting on the east couch.

SO basically should I believe the 1080P hype and go for the expensive pioneer
or
don't believe the resolution hype and get the best 720P set
or
is the panasonic basically just as good as pioneer but you get 58 inches and 1080P for the same price...
or
should I get the LCD because of the southern and eastern exposed windows...
or
should I go put myself out of my memory...

I know a lot of people here have been through the same thing, so I figure id throw it out there...

I know a lot of people here have been through the same thing, so I figure id throw it out there...For me this would be an easy choice assuming those were the only choices I had. While the 5010 probably has the best PQ of the choices there is no way I would pass up the 58" 750. I personally think that size will make the biggest difference and I would go with the 58" if given the same choices. And the 58" 750 is no slouch when it comes to PQ either.

We have a bright room with many large windows, with table lamps and no viewing in the dark. That limits the choice to non-reflective LCD screens.

At 10 feet, 40" is too small to see HD fine detail, 52" is too large for the space. There is not much to choose among first tier 46" LCDs without back light problems, clouds or bands.

So far the only problem is green push with the new Toshibas. This issue can be calibrated out though. So far they seem to be the best LCD, no matter what the big stores that dont carry them tell you. That's why it made my list. That and I have never owned another brand of TV. My family has always had great luck with Toshiba.

I just don't know if an LCD can compete with Plasma at this point...

I have a room like yours, 6 foot window in same location as your window, that being said, I have a 42" plasma and sit 9 feet away from it. The window only has mini blinds and I never close them. There is no glare on the panel, so I think you will be fine with a plasma. This is just my opinion, I could have gotten a 50" and it would have been better, so for you a 50" would be okay, but bigger might be better, one thing to think about is if someone is watching tv and sitting on the couch by the window, they will be closer and if closer they say 5 feet they might not see the best picture. As to 1080p , I think that it is of little importance unless you have some specific reason for wanting it.

well i figured 1080P might be good for the sucker who has to sit on the end of the couch closest to the TV.
