I believe your Sammy can do 1080p over component and VGA. But I am not sure if the HD-DVD player outputs the 1080p over component. You'll need comfirmation on that.

Component from the XBox carries 1080P but not all TVs accept it. I'm checking the manual (http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200703/20070320141147031_BP68-00588A-06Eng_0823_book.pdf) now to make sure it does. Note, the XBox will only upconvert SD Discs over VGA.

HD DVD over component is 1080i only. I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker. As long as your set properly de-interlaces, it's no biggy.

You will need VGA for 1080p HD DVD output from the console.

VGA (1080p everything)
Component (Games up to 1080p, HD DVD up to 1080i, DVD up to 480p)

The specs, on page 129 of the manual, lists 1080P as a valid resolution for component. But the FAQ, on page 127, indicates VGA will provide the clearest picture on your TV. I'd get the VGA cable.

I play my 360 through component in 1080p just fine...so yes component will carry a 1080p signal, quite well I might add

HD-DVD is supposed to be $149 at BB. Comes with King Kong and you get the 5 free movie deal...

It does for games and most everything else. However, as Lynesjc eluded to, one exception is copyright restrictions which keep HD-DVD (and Blu-ray) limited to 1080i output over component. The other restriction is standard DVDs are limited to a mere 480p over component due to their own copyright restrictions.

It's all rather trival though, as Lynesjc also mentioned, the restriction on HD doesn't matter as long as the TV has good deinterlacing (or DVDs as long as the TV has a good scaler). The reason is that movies are filmed 24 frames per second and what HD videos are available are 30 frames per second; so the 60 feilds per second in a 1080i signal will transfer those progressive frames with nothing lost to interlacing. So in the long run, like you said, component works just fine.

I have this TV in my basement. It will accept 1080p over component/VGA/HDMI. As mentioned earlier, the HD add on will only output 1080i over component, but the TV has a good scaler/de-interlacer so I would doubt that you will notice any real difference between 1080i or 1080p. I will add that the Elite via HDMI makes it really shine vs. my old Premium and VGA/Component. In short, buy yhte add-on, you will be happy :)

Its part of HD DVD forum rules, you can't output 1080p though component.
