View Full Version : 300 Sold out - post where!
Everdog 08-01-07, 01:52 PM I went to my local CC today to buy 300, and they were sold out of both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. I also, saw that Amazon is sold out of the Blu-Ray version too.
So without any negative commentary, where else have you seen 300 sold out?
How many discs (BR and HDDVD combined) do you think it will sell this week?
Let's have fun with this. A movie like this is good news for ALL HDM!

I have no idea, but I think it will be the top seller for HDM as of yet, no doubt.

Amazon must have sold out of the HD DVD because I had a pre-order and I'm still waiting for even so much as a shipping notice.

I thought I read that only one title has passed 100,000, and I think that was The Departed. But with the excitement surrounding this movie, I think it will blow past that easily.

As of this posting they still have nearly 2000 in stock.

That's what I say!
Enough of this na-nee-na-na-boo-boo cr*p, this movie looks to be doing very well for HDM.
sivartk 08-01-07, 02:20 PM Target near my home was sold out of their HD DVD version and when I asked about BluRay they said that they were not going to get any at all....<sarcasm> so much for exclusive ;)</sarcasm>

I have a hard time believing that considering local Target got in 10 copies of BD and 2 copies of HD-DVD before they even went on the shelf. Plus others in this forum are reporting similar ratios of what the retailers are ordering if you read through the sales threads.
Chevron07 08-01-07, 02:30 PM So, could this movie do for HDM what The Matrix did for DVD? I was going to wait for Transformers to jump into HD discs, but I'm starting to think 300 could be The One.

My local Target had 300 in both formats.

I have not seen the movie yet, and have not been able to purchase it either. I am going to try again this evening.
From what I have heard though, this may be big. I think it will show people how well HDM can sell, and then when Transformers comes out, it will be HUGE.
PS: I am ignoring the other posts because they are not maintaining the positive spirit of this thread.

Not sure if this was intended, but that was pretty funny.

Were they truly out?
MichaelHDDVD 08-01-07, 03:04 PM Everywhere I've seen 300 is sold out. Target, Best Buy, Fry's only had a few Blu-Ray copies.
Everdog 08-01-07, 03:06 PM then they're giving me the super-saver-shipping-shaft.
Super saver shipping means they set it aside on a table and wait a few days just so it takes longer than the regular shipping. :D
spacejamz 08-01-07, 03:19 PM Irving Frys (Dallas), BB and Walmart down the street were all sold of the BD version.
BB had some HD DVD ones in stock.. They had 80 BD copies when they opened yesterday and were sold out of them by lunch time...

I have always had great luck with it. Usually movies arrive the Wed. after. In fact I ordered a new surge protector on Monday night at about 8pm and it will be here tomorrow and I used the super savings shipping. Maybe you guys are just far away from a warehouse or something??

I buy so much on amazon that I signed up for amazon prime. Its weird because I thought I was near a warehouse, but sometimes it would take 4 or 5 days to get things. Now I get them in 1 or two. I think the just tricked me.
HB GAMER 08-01-07, 03:27 PM Amazon is receiving emergency resupplies of the Blu-ray 300s. So they are back in stock there.
It is probally all of those order cancellations due to the re-issue announcement. :)
Amazon must have sold out of the HD DVD because I had a pre-order and I'm still waiting for even so much as a shipping notice.
Well thankfully mine shipped. Maybe the 100 billion dollars in HD-DVD I have spent there in the last year has had some benefits beyond just the great movies.
You know, that or the fact that I hit the pre-order button as the initial Amazon posting was still loading hahaa.
Cheers,
Richard
PS. Should have it Thursday or Friday. Can't wait.

I am sure there is a buyer at Amazon saying WTF? I didn't think people bought that many HDM videos!
Well now he knows, and when movies like Transformers come out they better have a ton in stock.
PS. I am ignoring HD GAMERS post because it is not maintaining the positive spirit of this thread.

I am worried that I will not be able to find it in a store tonight and will have to order it from Amazon. So you may see it long before me.
I hope its not violent. I faint at the sight of blood.
enchntr 08-01-07, 03:55 PM I went to Best Buy yesterday to pick up 300 (giftcard...had to get rid of it somehow) and there was a line before opening. I was, to say the least, miffed as to why everyone was there. Did they get in a shipment of the Wii? New videogame out? Rock bottom pricing on some TV or something?
Nope...all there for 300! I knew it was popular, but not line worthy...
When I finally went to check out, the cashier asked me why I wasn't getting the collectors set with the helmet. I told him I'd rather high picture quality and audio quality over a little helmet any day.
Saw a number of HD DVDs in people's hands...I was the only one with a BD in had at that time.
Went to BB yesterday about 3:00. Had 2 HD DVD copies and 7 BD copies on the back side of the center aisle display. The HD DVD copies had an empty slot above them. Not sure what was there originally, but assume HD. Have no way of knowing how many they started with. Display was VERY high traffic while I was there. Saw one HD DVD go (leaving two) and MANY SD.
On another note, Sears had a display of the SD version and the top left slot had 3 BD ($29.99) in front of 3 HD DVD ($39.99!). They didn't look like they had been touched.
Checked my local BB and CC today. BB had five copies on HD-DVD, none on BR. CC had neither.
MaliciousBraham 08-01-07, 04:52 PM I was at my local BB during lunch today and had to search for about 15 min to find a BD 300 disc hidden in another stack of movies behind a support pillar. Never saw any HDDVD or BD stacked together. I wasnt trying to find single HDDVDs though.
donricouga 08-01-07, 04:56 PM Seems like it will sell very well.
How come all the hddvd fanboys say bluray copies are still available in stores while the hddvds are sold out and vice versa ?
I'm happy to report, my best buy still had a good amount of both formats left. Not more than 20 of each though.
Carbon_Le 08-01-07, 05:09 PM Frys electronics in phoenix sold out of 300 for br but still has copies for 300 hd-dvd.
eq_shadimar 08-01-07, 05:14 PM When I went to Fry's in Plano, TX last night there were still maybe 15 copies on the shelf. Judging from how the display was they ordered a lot. I was there for maybe 15 minutes looking for Hot Fuzz (did not find bo hiss) and Shaw of the Dead (found woot!) and four other people stopped in the aisle to pick up 300 HD DVD. If that pace continued I would imagine that it would be sold out soon.
Laters,
Jeff
Dahlsim 08-01-07, 05:31 PM Fry's in the Valley Ranch area of Dallas was sold out of both. One of those hd dvd's went to me and was promptly viewed. Beautiful, next up: play with those extras...
Timothy Ramzyk 08-01-07, 05:53 PM Super saver shipping means they set it aside on a table and wait a few days just so it takes longer than the regular shipping. :D
I think this is at least partially true, they have to demonstrate a pronounced difference or nobody would subscribe to things like their frequent buyers shipping service.

A couple of the Wal-Marts that carry HD-DVD and BD near me (Richardson/Plano/Frisco, TX - North of DFW) didn't get any BD copies of 300, but got the HD-DVD version.
Seems like it will sell very well.

I guess I must be the only person who really doesn't give a rats behind to see this movie? lol I have absolutely ZERO interest in it. Either way I am glad it's selling well in both formats!

the plano store usually gets tons of copies when there's a sale on any kind of software....it's very hard for them to sell out.
I was there for maybe 15 minutes looking for Hot Fuzz (did not find bo hiss)
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... I got the LAST Hot Fuzz at the Plano store yesterday around 1:00 or so. They had alot of 300's left.
Until TODAY, when I went back to Fry's (I work in the computer field...) and 300's were GONE. They had to have had 20 of them, they were side by side four rows wide at least 5 deep. Empty.
I picked up The Host. Got the last one of THAT too.
I still am pissed at Fry's and who they ghettoed the HD DVD section... their BR section looks like ass anyways, not to knock BR...

DavidHir 08-01-07, 08:04 PM I called five local Targets today for the Blu-ray version of 300 - all sold out. I've been wanting to get it there since it's $5.00 than any other B&M around here. (However, in every case they have HD DVD copies.)

Argg I stopped by 3 Targets today and it was a no go for either format. Like you I'd much rather buy from Target because it is less than Best Buy.
Ryan Peddle 08-01-07, 08:23 PM The boutique HDM dealer I go to is sold out. Overall he sells much more HDDVD but he says he can't keep either on the shelf and has a huge demand for the HDDVD verison.
Luckily I have gotten to know him a little over the past few weeks and he put one aside for me.
Looks like we might have a new winner.

Nothing baffling about it, it's just painfully obvious and lame partisanship.

mstrbass2000 08-01-07, 08:37 PM maybe some of the lame arse studios/companies that are still exclusive, will get a clue and go neutral ,since warner is eating everyones lunch about now !!!
Got mine from CC yesterday (HD-DVD). They had one more copy of the HD-DVD and BD on the shelves.

I bought at WalMart this evening. When I got there I found 7 HD DVD versions and 4 Blu ray versions. I was 2nd in line to the disks.
I took the last Hot Fuzz and 1 of the HD DVD disks. When I came back 20 minutes later there were only 3 HD DVD disks and still the 4 Blu ray versions.

Hey, never underestimate the pull of the overtly homo-erotic gladiator movie on todays youth. It may prove even more popular than effeminate pirates. ;)
I'm quite looking forward to it myself.
Fry`s at Nasa One in Houston was sold out of 300 on blu but had one HD-DVD left that a guy a few places in line behind me got. CC was out of both, and Target had a few HD-DVDs but no Blu. I found mine at BB they had it in a display with the SD copies at the back bottom row, there were none it the case with the other Blu-ray disks.

Especially when it comes from the most obvious cheerleaders.
The misinformation on both sides is just sickening.
blainehamilton 08-01-07, 09:37 PM Tried to pick up a second copy at London Drugs Oliver Edmonton today, they were sold out, 20 or so copies gone since yesterday.
Had to go to 3 other locations before I found a copy...
Dahlsim 08-01-07, 10:19 PM the plano store usually gets tons of copies when there's a sale on any kind of software....it's very hard for them to sell out.
Plano employee there (big blu-ray fan) told me they got 74 BD and 54 HD and sold out of both.
Bob Black 08-01-07, 10:32 PM I tried to get an HD-DVD copy at FYE today because I have a $200 gift card for the store from some DVD returns. The store in Salem, NH was sold-out. I later discovered that the Concord, NH and Plaistow, NH stores were also out. So I asked how many copies these stores received. 3, 1, and 2 respectively!
Naturally, I made an irate phone call to their corporate office, as this is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard in the retail industry. Between these moronic sales reps who don't have a clue about ordering, and the B&M stores like Best Buy charging $40 MSRP on their HD titles (then wondering why they haven't caught on better), it's no wonder these formats have been stagnant in the B&M stores!
Anyway, I ended up ordering the title through FYE.com with my GC, along with 6 others! Now I have to wait for it, damnit! :(
Rikimaru 08-01-07, 10:41 PM I went to the Wal-Mart Supercenter (Wichita Falls, TX) across the street from work, and those S.O.B.'s didn't even carry a HD version of 300!! They had Norbit in every flavor, but no HD 300. Garbage! I ordered mine from Amazon, and bought Hot Fuzz in HD instead.

The Target in Round Rock had both BD and HD in stock today.
Local Best Buy sold their 15 HD DVD copies by 4:00pm yesterday. My Circuit City was sold out as of 6:00pm earlier today.
My wife e-mailed me just this morning and said that she picked up 300 at the Best Buy in downtown San Francisco while on layover there. She was surprised that they only had a few BD copies left even though it just got released. Between that and The Host, it's shaping up to be a great movie weekend.
Everdog 08-02-07, 08:29 AM I was able to pick up a copy last nice at my local BB. They had very few left of both HDDVD and Blu-Ray, about 3 of each.
The movie looks amazing in HD and I think you really need the HD detail to show the intended graininess of the film. The only thing I did not understand is why was the King of Sparta really a Scotsman?
The Best Buy in King of Prussia as of yesterday at 6 were sold out of the HD DVD and Hot Fuzz. There were just a few BDs left. There were only a couple of each in the Local CC which is where I picked up Hott Fuzz. They had about 5 of them at 34.99 which they price matched to Target.
Everdog 08-02-07, 08:55 AM What really amazes me is that at CC the SD version was only 13.99 while BR was 29.99 and HDDVD was 34.99. Even with that huge price difference the HDM version sold out.
I was worried that some people may say, why pay 16 or 21 buck more for a movie, and then buy the SD version.

I am sure the SD versions still outsold the HD/BD version by a large margin. One reason for this maybe the fact that some best buy/circuit city probably got ~5 BD and ~5 HD copies while getting 100 SD copies. I saw the SD copies leaving the store in very large quantities at Best Buy Tuesay.
FatiusJeebs 08-02-07, 09:34 AM Got my copy at Wal-mart. They had copies of both formats.
PatrickB101 08-02-07, 09:44 AM picked up my copy tuesday 300 was selling like crazy the shelving was starting to look battered like people had been abusing it.
they had 2 big displays 1 end cap and then in the regular section at 2 different best buys. first best buy i went to had 2 BR left 1 HD-DVD which looked to have been rough housed so I didn't buy it and ventured on to the bigger of the two best buys in my town. They had about 10 BR disc left and I purchased 1 of the 4 HD-DVDs left. I have no clue which one was selling better has i have no clue if there where more BR disk or Hd -DVD to start but the fact is this was opening day and HD movies look to be doing well.
PS I watched the movie last night for the first time... I loved it.
Amazon is receiving emergency resupplies of the Blu-ray 300s.
Are you a purchasing agent for Amazon or an account manager for Warner?
whippersnapper 08-02-07, 12:45 PM Are you a purchasing agent for Amazon or an account manager for Warner?
No comment Gecko. But they did very quickly get resupplied did they not?
By the way, the Blu-ray version of 300 is now back up to #2. :) :) :)
fire407 08-02-07, 01:25 PM I wonder how many people buying the Blu-ray version are going to double dip when they release another version of The 300 with the PIP. I know almost every Blu-ray supporter here will say that PIP isn't important, but watching the movie with the blue screen footage in sync throughout the movie and hearing the director's commentary about particular set pieces while you are looking at them is pretty cool.
sunspot 08-02-07, 01:50 PM I went to my local BB yesterday to pick up the HD DVD and they were sold out. Based on the amount of empty space on the shelf, it looks like they had about the same number of HD DVDs as Blu-Ray (maybe 10 or so?). Hard to tell for sure though. There were several Blu-Ray discs in stock.
While I was disappointed that I walked out without "300", though I did get a copy of "Hot Fuzz", I was also oddly happy. I love to see HDM selling in any format.
No comment Gecko. But they did very quickly get resupplied did they not?
Yes, but looking at the graphs (posted in another thread), it looks like they've gotten 3 shipments totaling less than half of their initial shipment for 300 on HD DVD. They started with less than 600 copies of the BD, vs. 3000 of the HD DVD. Additional small shipments (about the same size as the Blu-Ray shipments) have shown up for the HD DVD version as well.
Seems FAR more likely that their initial allocation is coming in seperate, smaller batches than they're getting an "emergency resupply". ESPECIALLY since Amazon tends to stock 2-3x as many Blu-Rays as HD DVDs.
opfreak 08-03-07, 08:07 AM my target was out. I looked tuesday in the blu-ray/hddvd section and they had none, so I just walked away.
yesterday decided to look again, (since targets blu-ray is 5 bucks cheaper then anywhere local)
and the 300 hi-def disks were put out with the regular new release wall. (which I think is a plus).
but blu-ray was out, hd-dvd had 2 disks.
Well, even though I have no interest in the movie at all, I was in my local target (Huber Heights, Ohio) for something else and decided to take a looksy at the new movies.
I am happy to report that 300, Shooter, and Hot Fuzz are completely sold out on HD DVD. They had about 6 copies of 300 on BD and 2 left of Shooter on BD.
$27.99 for the BD 300 and $29.99 for the HD DVD version.
Targets in the Chicago suburbs
Streamwood HD DVD SOLD OUT Blu Ray 2 on shelf
Schaumburg HD DVD and Blu Ray SOLD OUT
Hoffman Estates HD DVD SOLD OUT Blu Ray 3 on shelf
Arlington Heights HD DVD 1 on shelf Blu Ray 3 on shelf
Elk Grove Village HD DVD SOLD OUT Blu Ray ????
Why do I know all of this. Cause I cancelled my order from Amazon (too slow), everywhere else was out, and Target has many stores around where I live. I drove all over the freakin place to get my copy.

Glad to see you got one. I could not find an HD DVD version at aTarget near me, but I finally found one at BB.
I honestly just bought the movie because I thought it looked cool, but did not expect a plot. I was suprised though, it was better than I expected in just about every way.
Local BB in Maple Grove MN is sold out of HD DVD but have plenty of BD and SD in its various forms.

I would think so. This title is a PS3 owners wet dream. Now how many PS3s are out there waiting for high def content? BD rank 3 and HD DVD rank 6.
Timothy Ramzyk 08-04-07, 02:13 AM Amazon has yet to ship my HD DVD, I preordered but used super-saver.
I'm cheap, so I wait.
I don't mean to be insulting, but I have to ask. Why are all of you going to B&M stores for your movies?
I ordered four movies coming out this week from four different websites (Warner home video, comedy central, dvdplanet, and buy.com). All were much cheaper than I'd pay in store, three arrived before the release date (the other came on Wednesday), I didn't have to waste gas and time looking for copies, and I knew for a fact I'd actually have one and not go somewhere and find it was sold out. I don't see the appeals at all.
UxiSXRD 08-04-07, 03:35 AM Instant gratification. I had 300 on my lunch hour on the day of release for $24 and change. If I could be sure I'd have it delivered on day & date with a minimal (if non-existant shipping and membership surcharge), I would be online more often. Usually it's just on special Amazon sales, or the catalog title I'm not overeager to get.
The Target I went to at the time had 3 HDDVD on the shelf and a single BD (the one I got, thankfully).
Timothy Ramzyk 08-04-07, 03:41 AM I don't mean to be insulting, but I have to ask.
I don't get it either; gas, time, traffic, parking, price = screw it in my book
I'd rather just push a couple buttons.

For me it varies. Yesterday was an impulse visit to BB to look at laptops for my college bound daughter after we had dinner nearby. I swung through the displays and a salesman recognized me as being the "HD DVD guy" that had complained to him a few months ago about two BD displays and no HD DVD ones. He wanted to point out to me that they now had two HD DVD displays - one end cap, and one hooked to a 73" display in the Magnolia section.
Since I had been boycotting them over the lack of support, I felt I should buy a couple to put some sales on their charts for the format. He helped search for an HD DVD of 300, and went in back to see if there were any more, but had to apologize that they were all sold out. (Bought a couple of others).
SGRSBSKIER 08-04-07, 01:03 PM As of 8/2 in Charleston, WV.
Target -------- Sold out of both HDDVD and BD. What was interesting was the guy said they had been sold out of the 2-disc SD version until that day.
CC------- Sold out of both BD the first day and HDDVD 2nd day the guy said they had 25, he was pretty sure for each format.

I spend enough time online. I like to get out and shop and be in a real store. I think I saw on the national news last month that online shopping has been decreasing lately for the first time ever. Count me as part of that trend, I used to buy everything online when I was poor and in college, but now with a real job and a greater sense of place I feel I would rather pay $4 or $5 extra bucks to support the local economy and roads I drive on and have the bonus of getting outside, seeing people, picking out the movie and making sure the box looks mint, and doing this all on a whim and on the day it is released.
valkyrie 08-04-07, 01:54 PM Every store I have tried in the Seattle area - BB, CC, Frys, Fred Meyer, Target, etc. EVERY ONE has said that the HD-DVD sold out on the first day, and they have yet get more in stock. Pretty sad planning on Warner's part, if you ask me.
This thread surprises me. I went into both BestBuy and FutureShop this afternoon, and both had plenty! Both stores had about 5 BDs, 8 HDDVDs, and dozens of DVDs. The DVD area was a mess, so I think they sold a lot more of the standard definition versions than high-definition versions.
Mattman 08-04-07, 09:42 PM Got last HD-DVD from BB the other day. They had about a dozen BR left and a couple hundred standard DVD's.
ThumperII 08-04-07, 11:56 PM Just got back from the grocery store. Lots of SD, no HD.
Target in Modesto, CA was out of HD DVD version and had very few BD versions.
Keechy E36 08-05-07, 01:55 PM All in metro Atlanta
Target sold out hd-dvd and bd
Frys sold out hd-dvd, bd, and sd!!!
CC sold out hd-dvd and bd
AZHTGeek 08-05-07, 03:17 PM My buddy reported the Fry's in phoenix az had 45 300's on tuesday in HD-DVD (no blu count sorry but I am sure they ordered more) by friday when I went in for Hot Fuzz they were out on both formats. I got the last Hot Fuzz btw.
Bestbuy in my area only has stock at the Paradise Valley store for the HD-DVD, all stores have the Blu-ray version in stock.
Circuit Citys web site is out on both versions.
I picked up my HD-DVD copy at Walmart on tuesday where they had about 10 copies of each version. Another buddy picked up his HD-DVD later on at the same location and stated it was the last copy...
I think this title is going to sell insane on both versions.
iontyre 08-05-07, 03:25 PM Our BB had ZERO HD DVD or Blu-ray copies by friday evening. Found one copy of HD DVD Hot Fuzz in the SD section, it was sold out in the HD section. Someone must have moved it while shopping.
Nucleartiger 08-05-07, 03:41 PM Columbia, SC
The Walmart had 4 or 5 copies of 300 in BR but none in HD-DVD.
Best Buy Didn't have any in either format.
Hot Fuzz in HD-DVD was also sold out so I picked up Shaun of the Dead HD-DVD for $14.99 (The price match for the computer I bought went towards the movie) at Best Buy and the Untouchables HD-DVD at Walmart for $18.99 (actual price and not on sale so I couldn't pass it up)
linthat22 08-05-07, 04:14 PM Target - Powell, TN
HD-DVD bought the last one, but there were 3 copies left of the Blu-Ray (they were scattered about, so I put them all together to make it easier for someone looking for a hi-def version).
Timothy Ramzyk 08-05-07, 06:22 PM I went to three Targets today an hit hid all the Blu-ray's of 300 in the pet aisle.
On a only slightly more serious note, I just got notice that Amazon shipped my HD DVD of 300 (on a Sunday!?) Wonders never cease.
I actually read a review that said they thought (similar to Sky Captain) the overprocessed imagery of 300 looks like mud.
bakpakva 08-05-07, 06:30 PM I went to 3 BB in the NoVA area. Two of them were sold out of 300, and they claimed to have sold all of their 50 copies the first few days. The third one had 28 copies in stock, but only 5 on the shelf. I bought one of them with a Walmart.com pricematch ($27.95), and I also picked up Hot Fuzz ($27.95) and NiN ($16.99) at Circuit City with Target price matches.
They all played without a hitch on a HDV-5000 with FW version 2.3. No skips, hiccups, or lockups on the combo's which was a relief after reading other posts on AVS.
wnorris 08-06-07, 09:53 AM My two nearby Target's were sold out of 300 on both HD DVD and BD as of Saturday. Both were also sold out of Shooter on HD DVD, and one store had one copy of Shooter on BD and the other had 3 copies left. I don't know how many copies each store started with on Tuesday.
Regardless, it seems like both formats are doing well at Target.
yellowlt4 08-06-07, 03:48 PM I went to the Fry's in Austin TX and they have a sign up in the new release section that states something along the lines of "300 is sold it out in ALL forms" It was quite funny how the sign how read, I guess they got tired of telling customers they were sold out.
ScottHD 08-11-07, 11:27 PM (This happened last Saturday).
I went to two Target's the Columbia, SC area.
The first one had NO HD-DVD but had like 5-6 Blu-Ray copies. Another customer even came up as asking for an HD-DVD copy too as I was getting the sales-associate to check the inventory on his Telxon scanner.
The second Target luckly have 3 copies of it on HD-DVD. And I counted like 10 Blu-Ray copies on the shelf.
As of today, Schaumburg Target, 300 HD DVD sold out, 300 BR 5 on shelf.
yakkosmurf 08-11-07, 11:40 PM I have been to each of the three Fry's locations in Houston. None of them had the Blu Ray, but two of them had a few copies of the HD DVD left. (No, I was not there just looking for 300.)
Walmart here today. 9 BD 300 and no HD. Based on what I see in our two WalMarts, there are always more BD titles available. If I didn't have a player yet, I probably wouldn't consider HD DVD if I bought my discs at WM. I don't know if it's because they don't carry as many HD or they sell too many HD. Either way, BD is much higher profile.
I went to the BB in Toledo they were out of the BD versions, I stuck the 6 copies of the HDDVD version in my pants and snuck them into the mens room where i sat them on the floor and then s**t on them. Because my story is as verifyable as any other.
LOL
