Can you purchase a up-conversion dvd player via the red, blue, green connection? Unfortunately, my Hitachi projection tv does not have a hdmi connection. Thanks for any help.

you can, but most of them will only upscale via HDMI or DVI.

Copied discs will upscale, but retail ones will not.

If your projector has a DVI plug, that'll work. DVI is very similar to HDMI...in fact HDMI was developed from DVI. The both are compatible with each other, and cables with each on one end are easy enough to find.

Just DVI won't do it. The DVI connection has to support HDCP, that's what the player checks for before upscaling DVD content.

I'm not aware of any HDMI sets that don't support HDCP, but I know of plenty of displays that have DVI connections which don't include HDCP.

true. I believe HDCP is required for HDMI certification, though.
