Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company's second quarter of fiscal 2008. Additionally, Take-Two is updating third quarter and fiscal year 2007 guidance to reflect the movement of Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system and the Wii™ out of the third quarter and the fiscal year

So much for the MS promise of this year. Oh well, I won't be done with even half of the games I have to play between now and then.

Lol, yeah, I just saw your post in the PS3 forum and was a bit confused. Nice.

Honestly though, I think this will effect the PS3 base more so then the 360. The 360 has pretty much all it's blockbusters lined up for this Fall so it's not a huge deal for one to fall into next year. Should make for a good distraction next summer.

I've never been big into the GTA games, so this isn't a huge blow to me. Although, I am a Rockstar and Take Two fan, so I do feel for their having to reduce their projections for fiscal 2007.

With the way release have gone for multi Sony is lucky the announcment wasn't 360 released as scheduled in Oct 07 and PS3 will arrive in 08. If the case was because of the PS3 development.

I had this game pre-ordered, but I might as well use my pre-order on something else now.

Hmm... guess I have to choose between BioShock, NHL 08, Mass effect or Mercenaries 2 or something else. (already have halo3 and assassins creed pre-ordered)

With as many great games coming out on the 360 soon, this isnt even a chink in Microsoft's armor. The PS3 however, that thing has a complete and utter lack of good games. I love my PS3 so far, for Blu-Ray, but geeez it is a failure on the gaming front in almost every aspect thus far.

Wow I didnt see this one coming. Lots of others I could see getting delayed but I assumed this one was locked in. Dang. Well although this will be my planed first GTA it still is not the most important game to me and if a delay makes it better then it should be delayed.

I wonder if part of the reason they are delaying is so they don't have to compete with all these other AAA titles. That may not be entirely it, but I wonder if it crossed their mind.

 I had already planned my holidays around GTAIV!

well, not that far, but ...

edit: I really hope in the near future, these developers do a better job of padding their deadlines and release dates. It would be fine if they had just said that Spring 08 was the release in the 1st place. The longer the wait, the higher the anticipation. By extending the date, it just looks like something went wrong, or they just misjudged their most important project.

Uh, no..(respectfully).

Microsoft has an avalanche of titles due out soon, Sony has Jax and Dexter and a free GT5 demo download lined up.

Sony needed this big-time, and it needed to have it play better thanks to the minimum 20gig hard drive always being present.

I think this problem is because of both MS and Sony.

It's Microsoft's fault because too many games were coming out at the same time. Someone had to blink and it was Rockstar... Midway blinked too with Area 51... That game looked done too.

It's Sony's fault because PS3 development was going badly. All press showings of GTA IV were on the 360 and it was looking good. No framerate issues, no glaring bugs, etc. It looked well on the way to being done.

Oh well... Guess it gives them plenty of time to make both versions as good as they can be.

In the meantime, plenty of good 360 gaming. And PS3 gaming is coming along as well too, even if it is taking a bit longer. :(

They already said they're not going to do it.

The executives would only add on the matter that "we're not going to send money back to Microsoft. That's not part of the deal."

Man, if I was Microsoft, I would be pissed. So they're taking the cash advance and probably spending it to fund Manhunt fixes and other game development.

And they sounded so diplomatic on whether the PS3 version was holding up the simultaneous release...

"Nor would the company comment on whether the problems Rockstar faced were particular to one platform, asked specifically if the studio was struggling with the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

After a pause, Zelnick would only say that "the technology that we're developing for GTA IV is pretty complex. It's a big game, with technological challenges across the board on both PS3 and 360.""

I dont get the area 51 thing. I mean they moved it out of a week when its listed competition was :
Medal of Honor
NHL 2k8
Flatout
and maybe quake wars (with heavy hitters Lair and HS on PS3)

And moved it into the week with the current competition listed as:
COD4
Mercenaries 2
FEAR files
Lego Starwars
World in conflict
(not sure what the PS3 has in this week)

Sure it moves it away from bioshock, Blue Dragon, PGR4, Eternal Sonata and Halo3 but it sets up to be released the week after Mass Effect is released. Wont people still be playing that game, let alone COD and Merc. Then BIA and Assassins Creed the week after.

It doesnt seem like Blacksites move helps them and I dont really think GTA needed help espeically since if it releases in late winter early spring it could find itself up against MGS. But then I dont think anything will really stop GTA from getting its sells.

Between Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and possibly a sports game or two, I dont know how I would even think about GTAIV!! It'll take months to make a dent in just the 4 games listed above. Obviously it stinks for huge GTA fans, but I dont think this will affect MS much. Sony doesnt have the same great exclusive lineup coming soon......and I think the online aspect of COD4 will make the 360 version much better, if nothing else for the size of the online community.

Agreed. There is like 5-6 other games I really want to get between now and the end of the year and spending $60 bucks less is nice since I won't have to jump back and forth between them. I'd also like to get more of that one thing I like to do but never get around to .... err I think it's called reading. ;)

I give credit to Rockstar for doing this. If this was EA or Ubisoft, they'd just release the games unfinished just so they could cash in during the holidays. Now GTA IV will be everything the developers want it to be, and not just what the money guys want it to be.

The one thing I was really worried about in this game was the framerate. Hopefully these extra months can smooth things out. Would you rather have an unpolished game this year, or a finished product next year? We'll all be thanking them next year.

I think you meant Jak and Daxter, and it is not coming out this year.

However, many other titles are. In fact, Sony has arguably more quality exclusives coming out this year than MS does. Certainly more original and creative new IP's. It's just that none of them are as big as Halo 3.

I will be enjoying the best from both consoles. It's just that my PS3 list is longer.

I was looking forward to GTAIV despite the awesome 360 line-up this year, it's looking like a real evolution for the series and a lot of what Rockstar has put into it looks so promising. But I guess it should be done right.

For the record Rockstar has talked about how there were design issues with putting the whole game on a DVD9 disc and having it run efficiently before the delay announcement. Despite the fact demos were played on 360 gear, they were isolated parts of the city and game play and the finished product is obviously much more of a jigsaw in terms of getting all the tweaks out for a full release.

That's not to say its developed and the delay is solely a result of the 360's hardware issues, but I still think that if this were a Sony exclusive we would be playing it sooner. Then again this is the 360 forum so maybe not. haha.

Yikes...and I thought I was being generous....

Lair isn't going to sell systems....in all those gameplay videos I didn't see anything that made me want to rush out and play it...kinda looked to me like high-advanced 3D Shooter....as others have stated, Panzer Dragoonish.....but thats me.

Warhawk is online only, and wont appeal to alot of folks who enjoy SP and dabble in online. Online only games tend to lose their steam pretty quickly, with SP you can always "play it again, Sam"......not that Warhawk might not be great, but its just got that Multi-Only chain around its neck.

I dont know about the other exclusives due out this year....UT2007, however, that will be huge.....but...ok, after that I start to draw blanks...

There are some other notables. This is probably not the right forum to talk about it and I will just get labeled a fanboy for owning more than one system. Ironic huh?

Here are a few off the top of my head. May or may not be your cup of tea but here goes.

LAIR
Warhawk
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction
UT3
Haze
GT5 Prologue
LittleBigPlanet

My 360 list consists of Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Bioshock so that is what I meant when I said my PS3 list is longer. To be fair UT3 and Haze are only timed exclusives. And to be even more fair Bioshock is not a 360 exclusive and the PC versions are usually superior.

Okay, I'm game...
Here is what looks interesting on PS3.

August 28, 2007 Warhawk
September 4, 2007 Heavenly Sword
September 4, 2007 Lair
October 2, 2007 Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
October 30, 2007 SingStar
November 2007 Time Crisis 4
November 2007 Unreal Tournament 3
November 2007 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

What else can you add for this year?

I like my PS3, but only a fanboi can say that the PS3 has more and better games coming out than 360 this year. Next year, things will get really interesting (with some awesome PS3 games coming), but this year, it's a win for 360.

For all multiplatform games, it's usually a 360 purchase unless reviews state otherwise. everything from online features to better graphics, etc. and that's just because the programming teams for 360 know the system better than the programming teams for PS3. next year should be more even.

Heavenly Sword and Lair. I'm reserving judgement until I get to play the final version. The responses have been too lukewarm to be an immediate buy. Time Crisis is a must get. I'm a sucker for shooters.

About multiplatform games: I once thought that I would buy for 360 but then I asked myself if Live was worth it, and after playing RFOM and Motorstorm online through PSN for free I decided that it wasn't. So I would prefer to buy for PS3 and save my money.

Furthermore, I am hoping that the FragFX will offer a better input device for shooters and they don't have one for the 360. Also, UT3 for the PS3 is enabling mouse/keyboard support.

That being said, I will wait for the reviews and if the 360 version is better, that is what I will buy. Except for UT3 because I cannot wait until next year and I don't think MS is going to allow user generated content on Live which is the life blood of that series as far as adding replayability. This is a huge disadvantage for the 360 version and one example of how the closed approach to Live can get in the way.

Got distracted about the multiplatform thing and forgot to answer your question.

I wouldn't add anything to your list except for the additional games in my own first list.

My 360 list is just a lot smaller for exclusive games. If yours is the other way around then that is fine. My 360 list includes only the 3 previously mentioned titles. There are just no other exclusives that I am interested in.

I am not a fanboi for having this opinion either. I have never owned a Playstation before the PS3 and the only reason I have one now is because I could not find a Wii last Christmas. But, I have a Wii now and I will be getting Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, and SSBB all this year!

If you are a FPS fan then you should check out Haze. It will be out this year. It's from the guys that made the Timesplitters series.

The videos are better in HD of course. They are including 4 player coop in the campaign mode. You can have combinations of spit screen and online to make up the 4 man team. I like the idea of being able to have someone right next to me to play the game with.

It looks very promising. Sounds like it will include some original gameplay elements revolving around the use of Nectar.

I'll agree on UT3. It's a get for the PS3 because I like keyboard/mouse. Plus, I can play against PC people.

But every other multiplatform plays better on 360 with the exception being Oblivion and I'm not an Oblivion fan.

console gamers are used to playing 30fps and feel luxurious at 60fps. well, i'm a pc gamer too that's used to games that are 80 fps and up. 30fps doesn't feel so good. that's why a lot of ps3 games piss me off with frame drops all over the place. and madden, ncaa08 (go UCLA Bruins!!!) being 30fps for the PS3 just killed that platform.

See, I'd rather have it in the fall going toward the winter for those cold days when you can't leave the house (in NY). Not to mention all the vacation days around the holidays, where you'll have time to sink into a game.

Dog days are what summer is all about. That's when you want to be outside at the beach flirting with girls if your single, or BBQ'ing with the family if you're married.

GTA is the type of game that can easily suck up 5 hours at a time for me. There are no other games that can do that for me. Even games like Oblivion get too redundant and boring for me to play for more than 2 hours straight. I'm not sure what games I'll spend time on this winter now.

GTA isn't all that. Actually, it's repetitve. Take away the violence and sex and you got nutting. I liked GTA3 cause it was different, and GTA:SA ( although I never finished it as by this point I was already sick of GTA3).....so I am not too excited about GTAxxxxx at all. The soundtrack and environment made me feel 14 again...the environment was great...not just the endless "gritty city" like in all the other GTA games up to that point, the voiceover work was all done by instantly-recognizable big-name talent, a drop-dead awesome soundtrack.....and of course the entire Miami Vice 80's vibe was awesome. It had the perfect mix of Comedy and Violence and everyone was a character, but moreso...a character whos voice I recognized. Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, of course Ray Liotta..Luis Gutzman...Gary Busey....the list went on and on.

GTA3 didn't do that for me....back to the gritty city kinda stuff, game environments too big...and I never really wanted to be a member of NWA so.....it kinda missed on me. I didn't recognize half the voice talent, the soundtrack to me was too repetitive and I felt the humor was lost in most of the game. I also felt the game itself was just too "all that and the kitchen sink thrown in"...the narrow, congested streets made the game feel claustrophobic even though it was a much larger world.

HOWEVER..that "Everyone is looking for someone" trailer for GTA4 got me very interested....the graphics, for one....but the environment looks so much larger and more realistic than in the earlier games, it made me want to play GTA again. I want to tear down a street with 8 lanes of traffic, etc.......oh well at least now we know where to spend our post-xmas $$$ :)

I am seriously considering getting a PS3.Especially since it seems the format war is almost won by blu-ray.So why not have games and blu-ray in one console, right? But,when I look at this list compared to the 360 lineup,it looks kind of pathetic. Was that over the line? :p

Touche to those points but in winter I am wrapped up at my school and starting an intern job that requires 30-40 hours a week which lasts through the spring so for my scheduling it works out perfect.

I live in Ohio been with the same lady for 8 years in September, their is no beach fun in the farm state. Im either working/playing games/golf or being dragged into malls and outlets shopping for BS....This gives me an excuse to get away from a few of those things. :D

Besides in 2 days is the start of FOOTBALL SEASON!

I don't see how the 360's exclusive list for 2007 is much bigger.

LittleBigPlanet... 2008.
GT5 Prologue... 2008.
Haze... 2008...

You have been misinformed.

GT5 Prologue is scheduled as a download (price TBA) this year. You may be thinking of GT5 which will not be coming this year.

Haze is coming out for the PS3 in November of this year. The 360 version may come out in 2008 if negotiations with MS go well.

Little Big Planet is coming out as a download through the PSN this year. The retail version is coming out in 2008.

My list still stands.

I may end up agreeing with this point. I will have to wait until the reviews come out on a few of the PS3 games. I am positive that Halo 3, Bioshock, and Mass Effect will be great games, but I fear that one or two games that I am looking forward to on my PS3 list could end up being flops.

It is scheduled to be a download this year (assuming no delays), but Polyphony Digital hasn't said it would be free.

Yeah, I think you're right about it not being free. It was recently confirmed for the Japanese PSN in October which means that is when everyone can get it if you have a Japenese account.

show me a release schedule that states they are coming out this year.

I looked at IGN, Gamespot, Sony's website, and E3.

Haze is scheduled loosely for 4th quarter 2007 and whenever a manufacturer speaks so vaguely, it means they're running hard against the clock and it's possible for a delay.

Where did you read LittleBigPlanet is going to be a download in 2007? It's even on the official Sony site that it's a 2008 release. You must be thinking a demo download? http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/LittleBigPlanet

As for GT5 Prologue, it's only promised as a 2007 release for Japan. There's only been speculation that it'll make a US release in 2007.

I don't trust PSN. It's a joke. There's barely anything to see there. It's like going to Disneyland and half the rides are closed.

Pachter is a douche and I thought I would never quote him, but he says what most people are thinking of this situation. That the slow development of the PS3 version is holding back the 360 version.

If you looked at IGN then you missed it. Look again.

If you can't find it then I will post links later, but I have to do some work now.

Check back later.

To get back on topic...

Looks like the blame game has officially started:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=27326

Analyst Michael Pachter believes Rockstar has delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto IV because it is struggling with development on the PlayStation 3.

And the Xbox 360 version of the game has suffered at least a six month delay as a result, due to contractual obligations that will have prevented the publisher from releasing the game first on Microsoft's machine, says the analyst.

Here is an article where Polyphony states that GT5 Prologue is an October Japanese PSN release.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/805/805611p1.html

Here is an article that states that a sample version of Little Big Planet will be released this fall. It is not the full game but most of it will be there.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/770/770999p1.html

Here is an article that states Haze will be a PS3 exclusive this holiday season and for the first part of 2008.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803222p1.html

I see you have edited your post and that is fine.

By the way. I hope you realize that you can sign up for a Japanese account and get GT5 Prologue in October.

It may be that slow PS3 development is holding back the release of GTA4, but it is more likely that the game is simply not finished. This is not a game I want though.

Anyway, all that just to prove that there are a lot of exclusive games coming out for PS3 this year. If you do not like them then that is fine. It does not bother me. The only thing that bothers me is people spreading misinformation to the tune that "PS3 won't have any games this year" when it is simply not true.

Since we're talking about things that bother us, I'll go ahead and say what bothers me is when people hijack a xbox360 GTA:IV thread to talk about what PS3 games may or may not be released this year...

And you seem so worried about this spread of misinformation -- but really, how many people who come to a xbox360 GTA:IV thread really care or even notice what information is being spread about totally unrelated PS3 game launches?

I am not trying to hijack the thread. I only saw something I disagreed with and I responded to it. That is all. I have no interest in derailing this thread. I am sorry that it bothered you. Carry on.

I guess that analyst doesn't analyze comments made by Rockstar itself concerning development. Rockstar's Creative VP Dan Houser said in May that:

"the lack of a guaranteed hard drive and the smaller storage space of the DVD format is limiting the game's progress. In contrast, all PS3s have a built-in hard drive and the console's Blu-Ray format can hold about five times as much content as DVD."

However he also avoided the notion of favoritism by adding:

"both have enormous challenges," and "both have their own particular pleasures and pains."

Yeah man... kinda falls short graphically, when you get away from the buildings and city environment. The animations don't look that smooth, textures remind me of GTA San Andreas on PS2. There's still that weird variety of vocal levels, where you can barely hear the person in front of you.

Not that I care about that stuff for GTA. April cannot come soon enough for me!
