I am getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these 2 tv's. They are both returns, but will both have a 2 year, no questions asked return guarantee. Both are HD and all the good stuff.
Samsung 42" Plasma HP-S4223 vs. Vizio 42" LCD P42 10a

The samsung is $30 more than the Vizio.

Salesmen both said that even though I think the picture on the lcd's seems to look better in the store and I would prefer the non-glare of the lcd (will be moving into a dedicated theater in about 6 months with no windows so glare won't matter), that they recommend the Samsung plasma 10 to 1 over the Vizio LCD. They seem to get a lot of returns on the Vizio TV's (they had about 8 open box/returns) and said that the Samsung (even though they like lcd better) was easily the better buy.

Recommendations would be greatly appreciated ASAP. Would like to go tomorrow morning and pick one of these up. Great prices on these two.

While I believe plasma offers a superior picture over LCD (although it does have its disadvantages and is not right for everyone), you should get the set that looks best to you. The Samsung is not the newest model currently available. The HPT4234 is the replacement to the HPS4233. It sounds like you are shopping at Costco, you should inquire about when they might have the newer model in. It has been available for a few months now. Also, you should read this before you make your decision:

We are just now upgrading our SDTV (we have a hd projection system but want a plasma for normal TV watching) so either one is fine. Problem is both are in boxes and are last years models so I can't actually see the picture on either one of them.

. Since these are in our price range, I want the best quality set so I won't have to take it in for service.
