Hi I just got my hd cable and dvr hooked up today and everything looks great. However, I was wondering if anyone who has a Scientific Atlantic 8300HD noticed if it makes clickcing/ticking noises. I turned the cable box off and it was still making these noises (still plugged in of course). Was hoping someone could shed some light on this issue.

Thanks,

Ken

The hard drive is making that noise. Hard drive noise varies from unit to unit. If the noise is bothersome, you might ask your cable provider to swap out your box with a new one. It may or may not produce less noise.

Yeah the hard drive is buffering the channels you have tuned all the time. It isn't "off" that just turns off the video output unless you unplugged it.
What I do before turning it off for a long period is to first select channels that don't buffer like an audio only music channel. I do that for both tuners (it has two tuners) before turning it off (standby mode)

Thanks for the replies. The HD making the noise is what I originally thought, but wanted to make sure. The noise isn't overbearing but can be heard during quiet moments in programming.

Thanks,
