I'm preparing to install some conduit (1") for future wiring / power / cables etc. I'll need to use something that's rather flexible so I can thread it up perpendicular into the joist space which are 16" centers.

While at home depot I found irrigation line which would do the trick and is very cost effective but my question is; does a conduit need to be fire rated or is it the cable inside that needs to be rated?

From what I can tell pex water lines are not rated, the pvc vacuum line is not rate so why would a conduit need to be???

thanks

Electric wiring has to be installed in electrical conduit.

Try looking for ENT, aka smurf tube.. aka that blue or orange flexible conduit in the big box stores (in the electric aisle).

I strongly recommend against using irrigation piping for electric installations.
