Hi all.

Fist time poster, long time reader. Used info hear to buy a HL-S5086W back in January. I have been very happy with it. Recently I have noticed when playing widescreen dvds that the bottom of the screen looks brighter than the top, like there is some light leakage. The black bar at the top looks nice and bright, but the bottom doesn't. I have been searching all over for the last couple of weeks to try to find an answer, but to no avail.

I have a SONY DVPNS75H that I have connected with HDMI.
I have a cox HD DVR also connected HDMI and a Samsung dvd-r120 connected component. I will check the picture with these 2 sources to see if the problem is there as well.
I have also calibrated the tv with AVIA starting with recommended settings form this site.

I have gained a world of information just reading this site. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you mean the bottom black bar is slightly less black then the top one? Mine's the same way I have the HL-S4266W model.

Yes. Also when the screen is all black you can see an area along the bottom that looks like some light is coming through.
