View Full Version : Any rumors of an Oppo DVD 5/6 disk changer?

I have an older CD/DVD player that doesn't play -R or -RW media and am looking to replace it. I love my Oppo 981. I'm wondering if anyone has heard any rumor or speculation on Oppo coming out with a multi-disk changer?

Edit: In case you're wondering, the 981 is setup as the DVD player for movies and such. The changer is mostly used for CDs, but occasionally to have a couple of Elmo/Dora/Little-Einstein DVDs loaded and ready to go. With a toddler in the house, I don't let original DVD disks loose in the house (thus the need to move up to a changer that supports R/RW media). I burn copies of everything and use Lightscribe to label them.

I've heard no such rumours. But I would point out that the recently released 980 was in beta test for months and I saw not a single rumour of that here, either.

Ok, since there don't appear to be any Oppo changer rumors out there, how about recommendations for a good, changer that'll play most anything you throw at it? PAL support and the ability to make region free would be nice, but not required. Must be able to play any CD/DVD recorded/rewriteable formats.

I will say that OPPO will never come out with a changer. The main reason is that they do not like the loaders which are required to use with these devices. They are too prone to breaking down. This is why OPPO has stuck with the same Sanyo loader for the past 2 and a half years: it has show to be reliable.

The DVP-NS85H is fairly good, but can't easily be made region free.

I have a previous Sony 5-disk changer and love it. In fact, I wanted to upgrade to HDMI so I got the 85 and plan to hook it up this week (we are moving into our new house tonight and the new TV comes tomorrow). I am relgating the older changer (875, maybe???) to CD changer duty. The only knock is the inability of the Sonys to do a full random shuffle across disks....
