View Full Version : Five Free Blu-ray DVDs Arrived
My five free Blu-ray DVDs (from the Blu-ray 71/2007 to 9/30/2007 promotion) arrived today via regular mail. They were shipped by Buena Vista Home Entertainment in Rockford Minnesota.
To quell rumors that showed up in other posts, they did not have the cases burned to remove the UPC barcode and I received them by sending in the coupon on July 4, 2007 in conjunction with the UPC DMP-BD10APPK barcode for my Panasonic DMP-BD10A that came with five DVDs in the box from Panasonic. There is a thread asking whether the cases will be burned and there are other posts with a rumor that says that since the Panasonic DMP-10K came with five free Blu-ray DVDs and the UPC barcode has a PPK at the end of it then you will not get the additional five free Blu-ray DVDs because the coupon says Panasonic DMP-BD10A not Panasonic DMP-BD10APPK. All hogwash!

4 weeks is impressive.
Here's hoping I get mine soon. I sent mine out on the 9th.

Ditto, although media mail.
clear31 08-03-07, 07:34 PM Thats a quick turn around time compared to my hd dvds that I am still waiting on.
I am sending in the blu ray offer tomorrow. If they come to me before my hd dvds I think that will be pretty bad

Received mine today, media mail from Minnesota, not disfigured in anyway. Three weeks.

Mongoos150 08-03-07, 08:49 PM Anyone receive theirs from Amazon? Just to make us Amazon-buyers feel better... :)
RDarrylR 08-03-07, 08:54 PM Amazon was sending out the 5 free movies?
Mongoos150 08-03-07, 09:02 PM Amazon was sending out the 5 free movies? The Blu-Ray group is running the promotion, but there was some confusion as to whether Amazon purchases were eligible for the promo. Having to do with the fine print on the original promo certificate "Purchases must be made at a vendor within your home state."

I assume that amazon PS3 buyers can take advantage of this offer though considering there is a form on amazon.com for it?

I sure hope so as I got a PS3 from Amazon last week and was planning on sending in this form in the next day or two :confused:

I sure hope so as I got a PS3 from Amazon last week and was planning on sending in this form in the next day or two :confused:Yes, one would think, but there is a chance Amazon arbitrarily put that link on their site (since it's not coming from the Blu's mouth, there's no guarantee). I'm guessing it will be fine, but it'd be great to hear from an Amazon purchaser who received their films.

Mongoos150 08-03-07, 09:26 PM ^ Don't believe there is a contact number. If so, it would've been on the BluRaySavings website.
Joon TV 08-03-07, 10:08 PM Yes I can confirm that I received mine today as well. It came from Buena Vista in Rockford MN. Nothing special about the packaging, no bubble rap or anything. Came in a brown envelope.
zdefonte 08-04-07, 06:31 AM They send it via Media Mail? That means it'll get to me 6 weeks after they mail it :( I sent my rebate on the 18th of July.
BZiggyZ 08-04-07, 08:21 AM Excellent news. Thanks OP.
The Blu-Ray group is running the promotion, but there was some confusion as to whether Amazon purchases were eligible for the promo. Having to do with the fine print on the original promo certificate "Purchases must be made at a vendor within your home state."
My downloaded coupon did not say "Purchases must be made at a vendor within your home state." For me it didn't matter since I bought it in Maryland where I live.
Just about 4 weeks for me to. All the titles were sealed in perfect store bought condition! :)
eskimo2176 08-04-07, 09:35 AM That truly is impressive. A much better turn around. No disfigured cases, I can't wait to get mine!
vanilla rice 08-04-07, 10:04 AM for that got the discs: did you give the actual UPC sticker from the box or just photocopy it?
Just about 25 days for me to. All the titles were sealed in perfect store bought condition!
I still have 4 days left to return .. but I'm not...

You must use the actual.
MySassyGirl 08-04-07, 11:30 AM If AMAZON has the promotion on their website, then I guarantee they will honor it. No need to worry.
swifty7 08-04-07, 11:33 AM I have a question or should I say questions ;)
can I send a copy of the UPC code from the box? if not then can I at least send a copy of the receipt(don't want to send the original)?

No you cannot send a copy of the UPC it must be the original. Yes you can send a copy of the receipt it.
MySassyGirl 08-04-07, 11:55 AM The last promotion they had with the $10 off, I made copies of it 2 times and I received both $10 rebate.
What I did was I had extra "photo" paper (the thick paper used for photo print and copied it onto the photo print....looks almost like the original UPC. If you have a good printer and scanner, then that should work.

Awesome! I sent mine about 2 weeks ago, so another 2 weeks and hopefully I'll have some more movies!
Joel Solid 08-04-07, 01:11 PM Great News! I'll be checking my mail daily!! I sent mine in the first week the promotion started. If I was to guess I would say July 6th.
STEVEfromLA 08-04-07, 01:12 PM I sent it off on 07/09 and got it in today... Very quick turn around.
shinksma 08-04-07, 02:22 PM I sent it off on 07/09 and got it in today... Very quick turn around.
Mine arrived in the mail today too. I sent off around the same time as you.
Glad to see these are getting out so quick- less than the 8-10 weeks the promo cautioned about, and far less than the three months for my HD-DVDs from the Toshiba offer back in December!
So...has anyone had a movie substituted yet? All mine were as-ordered.

Mongoos150 08-04-07, 03:22 PM Still no Amazon-ers.... ?
First time posting, long time lurking.
I received a package in the mail today that I assumed would be my 5 free movies (I had purchased a PS3), but it only contained two of them (Pearl Harbor and Transporter 2). The mailer was in bad condition and I think the other three that I had submitted to receive fell out of it. At the top where it should have been sealed shut, only about 2.5" of the 9" was sealed. The other 6.5" was open and loose (the actual flap has been torn at two locations). The glue on the flap was hardly sticky at all.
Is there any way at all to contact BVHE about this (I assume it would be them since they're the return address)? The worst part is that the two movies I was least looking forward two were the two still in the package! :(
Mongoos150 08-04-07, 06:28 PM Wow, sorry to hear that, newbie. I seriously doubt there is any way to get in contact with the Blu group, members have been posting here for weeks clamouring for a contact # to ask about the status of their orders. If there was a number, it would've been posted a while ago. Good luck with the situation.
mine arrive today... got the ones i asked for. i mailed mine out on 7/3...
rombullterrier 08-05-07, 12:23 AM I received all 5 movies I requested today, too. Glad to see prompt, accurate fulfillment on this promo; good for BR street cred.

please do not take advantage of the promo and the fact that Sony did not burn the cases. Don't ruin it for everyone else.

I think he meant that he got what he asked for.
The promo basically tries to fulfill everyone's order exactly. But should there be a title that's out of stock, that title would be replaced by another title from the same category. That's what he meant by "substituted".

yellowcanary73 08-05-07, 01:10 AM Watching HDNET seen the ad for BD player with the 5 free movies don't remember seeing this before.

Yes, that is correct. I have no intention of selling the free BDs I got - I was referring to the "we reserve the right to substitute" clause.

Did you guys send your items in via registered mail or just regular post?
Joon TV 08-05-07, 05:29 PM Did you guys send your items in via registered mail or just regular post?
Regular postal mail. Simple white envelope with a copy of my receipt, the form that we are required to fill out, and my UPC bar code. About 4 weeks later, BINGO, 5 wonderful BD movies of my choice. Gotta love it.
NeoForte 08-06-07, 03:46 AM Question. I got a Ps3 recently and I was going to send my form to get my Blu-Ray films but...thing is my mom threw away my box the morning after and by the time I noticed it was gone from the dump. Am I screwed for this offer now or think they will accept receipt only? Or are there ways of getting the UPC code if the box is gone? Sorry if its kinda dumb question but I really wanted to take advantage of this...
DasNiche 08-06-07, 08:08 AM So if I were to copy my reciept, fudge the date so it looks like it was purchased within the required time frame, cut out my UPC (Purchased around March)... do you think they would find out? Is it really likely they have a database of all UPC's telling what time the hardware was purchased?

You're pretty much screwed since you'll have to have the UPC. Otherwise people would just make copies of receipts and send them in.

It's never a good idea to post in an online forum that you are contemplating committing mail fraud.

Still no Amazon-ers?
Some good news about my missing discs! Since no one had a number to call concerning this offer, I just looked at the package that was sent to me, saw that BVHE was the return address, so I whipped out one of my "Scrubs" DVD sets and called the number on the disc for Buena Vista Home Entertainment Consumer Relations (1-800-477-2811) thinking it was at least worth a try. The lady I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the "bluraysavings" offer, so I told her my situation, she spoke with her promotions supervisor who called the fulfillment company (Archway Marketing), and they're going to ship me out the missing movies! :D

DasNiche 08-06-07, 03:56 PM Ah shucks, well I don't believe any of the movies really appeal to me that much on that list anyways. Mail fraud sounds evil...

I mailed mine on July 3rd and received them today but the padded envelope was wide open also and I was surprised that only two had fallen out. I called the number from the post above and they were very helpfull and in a matter of minutes it was handled and they said I should have the replacements in a week or two.
Thanks to the original poster for the contact information!

Well jeez I should have known that... This makes the situation all too tempting.
N/M, Receipt has serial # on it.
fireman1000 08-06-07, 07:36 PM I recieved mine today. My copy of The Guardian is defective and locks up every few seconds in the middle of the movie and continues to do so thereafter. There is nothing visibly wrong with the disc. I'm open for any suggestions as what to do....
Mine Arrived! :D
I just got my 5 free Blu-Ray movies from the mail in! I sent mine off July 2nd and just got them on the Eastcaost so expect yours soon!!

I received my 5 free BD movie today (3-4 weeks after sending it it in) . Not bad turn around (compared to months on free HD-DVDs).
mt-parker 08-06-07, 08:57 PM Sent mine out on 7/14 came today I was very impressed, considering it took Toshiba about 12 weeks
I received my DVD package in the mail today - RIPPED OPEN and only having one DVD inside! I see the label shows that it had all 5 DVD's and now I don't know what I can do. Is there a contact number I can call for assistance?
Leviathin25 08-06-07, 09:07 PM check a few posts prior to yours.
BerserkerTails 08-06-07, 09:19 PM Anyone in Canada who did the deal receive their movies yet? I sent my form out around the middle of July, so I don't know when I'll be getting them, or whether it's a longer wait in Canada.
I appreciate the fact that you guys have given dates when you mailed them off, this allowed me to extrapolate the time of arrival to me, which was today! Not only that, but my perfectly Photoshopped receipt passed my hard-core tests, so I knew it would pass theirs. For those do-gooders who want to call it fraud, I bought my player about two-three week prior to the offer. I deserve the free movies. I did not know that Kiss of the Dragon was DTS-HD lossless. Single layer at that.
Thanks Leviathan. I will call that number tomorrow and hopefully get the same response from BV.

I did not steal a Blu Ray player, I paid for one. Why should be out of free movies becuase I did not wait or even know about the offer until around July? Their whole point is to make sure that we do not bring them back. I assume it is because of the updated players coming...
Got mine today.
My package was ripped, but not ripped open. All 5 movies in tact. Very fast and very impressive from Sony. I wish Toshiba would step it up and deliver. I sent in my HD DVD forms 4 weeks before I sent my Sony rebate in and the Sony ones arrived sooner.

Nobody is doubting your testament about purchasing a blu ray player. However, the main issue is that by admitting you successfully committed mail fraud and got away with it will only entice other people with as much integrity as a paper sailboat to do the same.
Answer me this, if you "deserved" some free blu ray movies, why dont you go and rip someone else off. Who is to say that they won't up the ante to 10 blu ray movies, should you be entitled to them as well even though you already received in good faith from BHVE?
PS: Sent my form/upc on July 31st. Requested: Pearl Harbor, Blazing Saddles, Underworld Evo, Black Rain, Omen 666. Anyone want to trade RE for any of these when I get them in? PM me, thanks! :)
I heard people are returning/exchanging these to Wal-Mart. Can anyone confirm this? If so, since I saw the Gaurdian I would like the exchange it for a better movie and maybe get rid of Blazing Saddles. Thanks

Yes you can return some items without a receipt up to 3 times a year (which they do track). Just be prepared to explain when if the item comes up as "Item not found".
Now just to clarify, my last comment is not designed to stop people from returning items without a receipt, but more of a "heads up"
Friend of mine bought a PS3 Sports Bundle from Ebgames. He received 3 of 4 games which he didnt care for. He summarily went to walmart and was able to return them without a receipt.
Fast forward a month or two, I get a call from him saying, "Did you know that walmart doesnt stock Call of Duty 2 for the 360?" I replied to saying, hrmm, thats strange, I thought I saw that game in the store.
Well, it turned out that the game (COD2) that was bundled in limited supply has a different sku than the ones sold at retail. He didnt get in trouble, but he did feel embarrassed. :confused:
Marc D Carra 08-07-07, 03:14 PM Has anyone in Canada recieved their discs yet? I sent mine in about a month ago now. I think they come from a different (Canadian) warehouse, since the mail-in order went to a different address.
Marc.
does anyone know if the movies get delivered by regular mail or like ups?
Rarenomad 08-07-07, 03:50 PM does anyone know if the movies get delivered by regular mail or like ups?
This was answered in another thread. However, they are delivered by USPS
Mine arrived today as well. Big padded envelope, which was a bit torn, but the movies were all intact and immaculate, better than you find them in stores usually. No soldered cases for us! :) Also, my receipt was not from my resident state, for anyone who was concerned about the print ad that had that requirement.

This is not mail fraud, it is respoding to an offer. If there was another free movie offer, I would not qualify as my UPC code has been cut off. I am happy, except that I realized that I did see "Kiss of the Dragon" and it is not worthy of being in my collection.
jmscott42 08-08-07, 02:23 AM You provided false information against the terms of the agreement by sending in Photoshopped supporting evidence. In effect, you defrauded Buena Vista out of the movies when you knowingly didn't qualify for the deal and took it upon yourself to modify your supporting documentation for the rebates.
This isn't the place to debate whether or not BV has the cash to spare, or whether the deal should've had different terms, but the fact is you DID commit mail fraud by defrauding a company and using the USPS in order to do it. It sucks when you miss a rebate due to purchasing something too early or too late, but that's life.
Either way, it's not something to brag about on message boards. Did you expect us to all pat you on the back and say "Good job"?

You should be out the movies because your purchase was OUTSIDE the time of the promotion, whether you knew about it or not. Admitting you committed mail fraud here on AVS is not something you should do again.
Tom
Paul Arnette 08-08-07, 12:19 PM I checked my documentation last night. I sent mine out on 7/16. It arrived 7/18, and I used the correct POS barcode, so hopefully I should have mine soon.

How is it not mail fraud? You forged a document and sent it through the mail responding to an offer you didn't qualify for. You can justify it all you want, but you just committed a federal offense.
Are you likely to spend time in prison? No. But, a felony is a felony, Sport. Congrats on your lack of personal accountability. Your parents taught you well! :rolleyes:
Not only that, you were dumb enough to post about it on an internet forum.

Not really. Like I can be found. I still pad $500 for a machine that I could have sent back and bought another just to get the 5 discs and cost the company money just for those disc. Which is worse, sending back a good unit for another and costing the company money, or changing the purchase date and getting 5 free discs that cost but so much to make? I did everyone a favor. Who needs another suspect refurbished product that was perfectly good just because I wanted free movies?
You provided false information against the terms of the agreement by sending in Photoshopped supporting evidence.
I did not defraud anyone as I did meet their terms on everything but the purchase date. I purchased the thing a good 3 weeks prior to the offer, not a year!
This is not something to brage about, but I should get that pat on the back!
Mongoos150 08-08-07, 01:16 PM Not really. Like I can be found. Wow. It's people like you that make the world a tough place to live in. As(s)hole.

Wow. I consider this a great reason to choose HD DVD... :)
bassmonkeee 08-08-07, 01:41 PM Not really. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Slick. Again, justify it all you want (you appear to be good at it) but everyone at this board knows you are a liar who can't be trusted.
And, I got news for ya--You can be found. Trust me. If someone were to report this thread to the Post Master General, it just takes one subpoena to get any information you used to register this account. And, then, another simple subpoena to your internet provider to get your name and address. I know--I work with the authorities all the time to provide information about people who "can't be found." They really don't care if it's $20 or $2000. You don't think the owner of AVS is going to make a free speech issue for a scrub like you, do ya? Of course not.
Hell, I've got my local Postal Inspector's business card right here from a fraud case I worked with her on last year.
Did everyone a favor, eh? I guess that confirms the "dumb enough" comment I made earlier.
IXinchnail 08-08-07, 01:53 PM I appreciate the fact that you guys have given dates when you mailed them off, this allowed me to extrapolate the time of arrival to me, which was today!
For the record, you DO NOT deserve the free movies. However, I cannot personally say anything about the morality of what you did, but I am glad to hear that your receipt worked. :D

Not standing up for anyone, but how does his action make the world hard for you to live in? Honestly, I'm more inclined to think it's people like you that think this is the world's biggest problem. Perhaps you could put your energy towards trying to correct a real world issue.
Much worse (IMO) than the people who post about tricks and scams like this are the self-riteous people who post in droves about how their ethics are so much higher...then proceed to cruise myspace for little girls.
I'm sure all of you have broken the speed limit...received too much change and didn't say anything...got 3 of something when you ordered 2 (and kept it secret)...fantasized about your neighbor's wife...called someone a racial slur...picked an orange off a neigbor's tree...masturbated...looked at an adult magazine or took a sip of beer under the legal age...etc.
I guess that makes you all scumbags for breaking laws and being unethical.
Again, I'm not standing up for anyone...but what makes any of you think you're qualified to decide where the line gets drawn? I've not met a person yet with a totally clean slate, and unless you think you do you aren't qualified to judge anyone.
On another note, it probably isn't a good idea to advertise your scams (successful or not) on a public forum. The geeks love to play righteous in an attempt to try and feel better about themselves. ;)

Your example is weak at best, a speeding ticket is a petty offense. Mail fraud is a Federal offense...see the difference?

Honestly, I'm more inclined to think it's people like you that think this is the world's biggest problem. Perhaps you could put your energy towards trying to correct a real world issue.It's people like him that make companies reluctant to put out great offers for us legitimate customers. It's people like him that make people less trustworthy in general, and more prone to believe people are inherently bad (as opposed to good and honest). It's people like him that make others assume if the system can be taken advantage of, it will be taken advantage of - because that's the nature of this kind of person. He thinks "Well - I can do it. It's not right, it's not legal - but I can, so I will." That's how.
Now how the hell are you going to defend the statement about "people like me" - what is that supposed to mean?! People who do the right thing?! Yeah, I'm sure people like me, honest people, are the world's biggest problem. Forget terrorists, dishonesty, thiefs, murderers and rapists - it's honest people with a conscious that are the world's biggest problem. Grow up before posting something so ridiculous. :rolleyes:
Rarenomad 08-08-07, 03:09 PM Wow. I consider this a great reason to choose HD DVD... :)
Burn the witch! jk
I hope for everyone's sake that both formats keep each other honest...unlike someone here (*cough* JVC *cough*)
Competition is good for everyone, unfortunately it also means that some of us might have to double dip....ugh....
It is my hope that BR gets some nice interactive features. Granted its not for everyone but extra stuff is bonus.

Cat5: While I do agree with some of what you said, noone is perfect, but anyone who is telling the world via an electronic verifiable medium about an action which the public deems as moral turpitude is just plain idiotic.
Crimes involving moral turpitude include :
Fraud:
* Making false representation
* Knowledge of such false representation by the perpetrator
* Reliance on the false representation by the person defrauded
* An intent to defraud
* The actual act of committing fraud
Evil intent:
* Arson
* Blackmail
* Burglary
* Embezzlement
* Extortion
* False pretenses
* Forgery
* Fraud
* Larceny (grand or petty)
* Malicious destruction of property
* Receiving stolen goods (with guilty knowledge)
* Robbery
* Theft (when it involves the intention of permanent taking)
* Transporting stolen property (with guilty knowledge)
Now, as I mentioned before, I am not perfect, I don't take offence to some of the things you mentioned. However, I personally draw the line on this situation if the information being shared can be used to harm a large group that frequent this site. Most of the things you pointed out are done in the privacy of the individuals conscience, and sometimes are not deliberate.
The points you make are valid (speeding, stealing, etc) however we do have laws. Not perfect, but we do what we can do mitigate the BS so that the general populace do not fall into a situation of anarchy.
So not to belittle your opinions, I respectfully disagree with some of the comments made.
ps. so any takers on trading for RE? :)
Joon TV 08-08-07, 03:38 PM Guys, this thread was based on who got their 5 free movies and it has turned into Law School 101.....To each his own I say. I don't have a feeling one way or another on anyone that tries to cheat any system. It is not a crime if you don't get caught, and it is if you do so lets leave it at that. Everyone has their own way of thinking and that is that.
I love my 5 free movies, picked good ones up and down the board.

Not a lot of news going on with the daytraders. They have to occupy their time until Friday.

You guys liked that? I should be a Reverand I think. LOL, I was just trying to break the ice. Gets a bit thick in here sometimes.
Your example is weak at best, a speeding ticket is a petty offense. Mail fraud is a Federal offense...see the difference?
Downloading a song illegally is a federal offense. Does that make it better or worse that misdemeanor sexual assult, a so called petty crime?
Sending in an forged receipt is fraud, it's an intent to deceive. But I understand why it was done it this case. Sony (or whomever) sets an arbitrary start date to this rebate. And many people will have just bought a player in June, getting left with nothing. They did the same thing as people buying a player in July did. The end result is unfair. Of course lots of things are unfair. But if someone chooses to do something about that inequity, so be it. I can understand where they're coming from. And it all stems from an arbitrary date picked by the powers that be. If the only thing separating a July purchase from a June purchase is a few days. The rest is the same. So I'm not going to really get worked up about it.
This thread makes me even MADDER at Toshib for not sending me my five free HD DVDs (yet?). :mad:
Guys, this thread was based on who got their 5 free movies and it has turned into Law School 101.....Court adjourned. Thread remanded into custody.
