View Full Version : Mitsubishi Help: WDY65 or WD-73734?
bdrex28 08-03-07, 06:12 PM I've read the topics and I think the 73734 is better, but I want to just get a few opinions.
Here's the situation. I have a Hitachi 65" that I got from CC and it's junk. After 7 repair attempts they have finally decided to let me get full credit on the tv towards another purchase at CC for a TV.
So, I've been looking at which would be the best I can get.
I really would like 65" or larger.
So it came down to these two at CC, again I MUST buy it at CC so I'm a little limited.
Of the two, which would you get? Why?
Thank you for the help/advice.
bdrex28 08-05-07, 09:48 PM Any ideas here or am I missing the boat and didn't see this addressed in another topic?
tlbowerts 08-05-07, 11:24 PM The 73734 is better ,Y65 is last years and CC only model (a cross beween 65731 and 65732. 73734 is this years model and same every one sells.
Hope this helps!
bdrex28 08-05-07, 11:25 PM It does help, and it's what I was figuring, but I was interested in PiP and it seems the 73734 doesn't have it.
thanks!

Right, 73734 does not have pic in pic (its getting harder and harder to find )
only 2007 Mit that will have it is the top of the line model (833) its not out yet, and dont think CC will have
tlbowerts 08-06-07, 12:32 AM The two BIG things the y65 does not have is PerfecTint and Dark Detailer

This year they have the Y657 model. It has alot more in it than the last year's CC models do, but is still the lower end. I went through the entire manual for all the new systems and found only minor differences. I talked about it on the last few pages of the xx734 owner's thread.
Thundercat99 08-07-07, 12:31 PM I just bought the Y65 model. TO MY LYING EYES it looked just as good as the TOSH HM167 and the SONY A2000 on either side of it, had the connectivity I NEEDED(just a HTIB and STB to hookup), and the manager gave me 200 off the sale price(must have been in a good mood or the tv is a lemon and I just don't know it yet!). So 65"s of 1080P that looked pretty damn good to me at 1699.00 is worth trying IMHO.
Having owned Mitsus in the past, I would rate their durability no worse or better than the other Manufactures

The Y657 also does not have PerfecTint and DarkDetailer( like Y65)
same as last year ,its a cross beween a 65733 and 65734.
so again the 2 big things it dont have are the PerecTint and DarkDetailer

"Big" difference is subjective. I've read comments from people on here who say they see little to no difference using those features. Obviously the best idea is to go check a tv out...try the features...and see if they fit the bill for you.
The Y657 does however have the 4th hdmi port which is always nice. It's a step above BB's 733 and is very close to the 734 we all have our eye on. So I was stating if you are forced into a Y657, it's not too much of a sacrifice...subjectively speaking of course :). I however wanted an 833 and could possibly step down to a 734. Don't think I could force myself down any further.

If you go back and read about 65731 and 65732 of last year, I read a lot of comments from people on here who say they see a big difference using the 2 features i talked about, like last year the Y65 had most features of the 65732, and again this year the Y657 has most features of the 65734.
I had the 65732 and now have the 65734, so i know a little about these.
I am not saying the Y657 is a bad tv, i am saying that unless you need to buy from CC ,why would you buy the one with less when you can buy the 65734 for the same price eles where.
Also bdrex28 ask out of the 2 (Y65 and 73734) which would you buy and why, so i let him know this, also the Y657 would not really help him as he wants pic in pic, this is why ( from what he said) he was thinking about the Y65 over the 73734,
Yes you are right , the best idea is to go check them out for your seft, and yes if i had to buy from CC i would buy the Y657

...If I remember right the Y657 is actually a couple hundred dollars cheaper...but I agree.

...I thought the 734 didn't have PIP and it was only on the diamond models this year? I don't own one but I could've swore that's what everyone is all up in arms over in the 734 thread...

..That pretty much sums up my post. Go see the features and if they are ones you feel you will need...then get it. Otherwise save yourself a couple hundred and get the Y657. I believe Steinfire said the PerfecTint feature was enough for him to justify the 734 purchase...not so much the other 2 missing features. I agree that the 734 is better...all I was trying to do was let the OP know that if forced to purchase the Y657, he will still be pleased with his purchase.
steinfire 08-08-07, 12:50 PM Did you go over and read this thread yet...it will help you alot.

I didn't like that fact they they dropped the pip/split screen but I can still get it through my dish box. I have the 622 and if I set it to single mode it will allow me to still watch 2 shows at once(just not spilt screen)
I still love my 734 and I'm glad I went with it, I know some of the people that picked on up said that they were having problems with the wheel noise but it was not an issue in my set.
I really like the perfect tint and I think WDY does not have the netcommand either. Its a plus even thought I have not set it up yet.
I say find both tvs and try to write down the different things each has(not mand as far as I can tell) and then fool around with the remotes, settings and everything then decide from there. The store I bought mine from had a HD-DVD player hooked up to it and I asked them to hook a regular dvd player up to it and I checked it out on SD too before I decided to go with the 734.

Actually the Y657 does have the netcommand. Only the PerfecTint, Dark Detailer, and one other feature seperates the two models. I too liked the idea of the Netcommand once I read about it.

No , the 734 does not have pic in pic, what i was saying was bdrex28 was asking about Y65 and 73734 and he would like pic in pic , the Y65 has pic in pic but Y657 does not, so it would not be a reason for him to pick it over the 73734.
as for as price ,one can get the 65734 for the same or better price than CC, if you look around,I got my 65734 $200.00 less than what my CC is selling it for, so all i was saying is if you can buy it for the same price and dont need to buy from CC ,why not buy the one that has the most features.
The PerfecTint and DarkDetailer would be enough reason for me to buy 65734 over Y657 ,but as it is i save $200. by buying the 65734

I wasn't aware CC was even selling the 734 as I haven't seen it anywhere. Although it is true if you're not forced into using CC you could get the better one for at least the same price elsewhere and you should. Would make no sense not to. I do agree.

Sorry, met that you can buy the 65734 for same price or better as CC sells theY657 for
