my home is currently under construction, and it is coming with a "study". Well, being that I would rarely use that room, I was thinking about throwing a 1080p projector in there and some home theater seats. The ceilings on the floor will be 9 foot. The house will also have an unfinished basement, so that is another route, but only 8 foot celings down there. Anyways, my questions are:

1. What is the max size screen I can get in the 16x12 room. I want at least to achieve the 120 incher.
2. Would 2 rows of seats be possible? Maybe 3 seats a row?
3. Should I just go the basement route?

Thanks

1. Don't get hung up on size. What you want is to find the correct ratio between width of the screen and seating distance. Figure out your seating and from there figure out optimal screen size.

2. Yes two rows of three seats is very doable.

3. Who knows. It's up to you what you want to do in your house. Keep in mind that you may negatively impact your resale if you convert standard living space (bedroom, dining room, etc) into a dedicated theater. The new owners may need to convert it back. Basements builds don't tend to cause the same sort of impact.

I've got essentially the same amount of space once I partition it.

I've chosen to just to one wide row, and use the long wall for the screen, rather the short wall. Why? Seven foot ceiling and a desire to not have any seats that are against a wall (side or back) to keep everyone's audio sounding good.

Of course, this limits me to four seats in a 16 x 13 space (approx).
